There are plenty of Arsenal transfer rumours doing the rounds, as per usual, and if all of them were true then Arsene Wenger and his scouting team at Arsenal would not time to scratch their arses. One that keeps coming up, however, and has done for over a year now is the link with the Real Madrid and Spain keeper Iker Casillas.
Will Arsene Wenger gamble in the transfer market?
Back in August, Arsene Wenger described the transfer window as being like a game of poker. You can see what he means. It is a time of year when clubs are competing for a limited stock of talent, agents are on the lookout for a new contract, and some managers use the media hype to motivate their squad or complicate matters for opponents.
Although Arsene Wenger has worked hard on the Arsenal academy, making it one of his major focus points since he took over as manager of the Gunners nearly 20 years ago, the Frenchman is not averse to keeping an eye on the young players making a name for themselves at other clubs.
Well, another two Arsenal players were eliminated from the World Cup earlier. The Arsenal captain, who may not be with us for too much longer, had to watch from the bench as his Belgium team were beaten by Argentina. Then young Joel Campbell’s Costa Rica went out on penalties to the Dutch.
We are still not really any the wiser as to whether the Costa Rica international Joel Campbell will be playing his club football for Arsenal in the coming season, or whether the 22-year old will be spending a fourth season out on loan from his parent club.
Navas rejected Arsenal by AH
Manchester City’s summer signing Jesus Navas has revealed he rejected a move to Arsenal, three years ago, with his statement basically suggesting that the reason was he felt Arsenal would be a step down from previous club Sevilla.
City apparently got a bargain with the deal being less than £20 million, which I think is an absolute steal for someone of Navas’ quality, however admittedly they have taken a massive risk in signing him as it’s unclear whether his issues with being homesick still persist.
Navas, Dragovic and Son is not a removal company by the way, it is three different football players who have been linked with a possible summer transfer switch to Arsenal. Arsene Wenger and the club will have a good idea of the players they want to sign this summer, but a lot could still depend on where we finish in the table.
Arsenal are stepping up their interest in two of the Spanish international side, Jesus Navas and Alvaro Negredo, who play in the capital of Andalusia with Sevilla FC. It is a fiercely proud club and has enjoyed success in the past, winning the Spanish Copa Del Rey two years ago and winning two UEFA cups in a row in 2006 and 2007.
