This is pure comedy gold for Arsenal fans, although if there was even the slightest chance of it actually being successful, I would certainly not be smiling. Our north London rivals, Tottenham, must have got their hands on something very powerful and mind-bending to smoke if this transfer rumour report by Metro is true.
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has been at the centre of many Arsenal transfer rumours in recent years, especially last January and summer. It was thought that Arsene Wenger made a real concerted effort to bring the Dutch striker to Arsenal, but in the end the 30-year old opted to stay with his current club Schalke in the Bundesliga.
But now there is just one year left on his current contract with the Germans, a situation that we are all too familiar with and one that forced Wenger to sell Huntelaar’s international team mate Robin van Persie. Now the Gunners are in the opposite position though, and according to The Express, we are going again to try and finally secure his signature.
There is no doubt that 99% of all Arsenal transfer rumours are completely fabrications made up by the media, but every now and again there emerges a story that refuses to go away. This week it is the Ballotelli story, but in January it was the Arsenal link with Schalke´s Julian Draxler.
Now the player himself has confirmed that the Gunners did indeed try to buy him in January, but he was convinced to stay at the Bundesliga side for one more year before considering his future.
Barcelona midfielder and former favourite son of Arsenal, Cesc Fabregas, could spark a bidding war between Arsene Wenger’s side and the Manchester clubs. Barcelona are reportedly ready to listen to offers for the 26-year old whose return to the Catalan club has not been as rosy as he expected. He was booed by the home supporters during Barcelona’s 2-1 win against Athletic Bilbao and that was not the first time.
In a recent online poll, 50 percent of the Barcelona fans that voted would prefer to see Fabregas leave the club. Fabregas is in his third season since he left Arsenal where he became a superstar but the club’s supporters never took to him. He has often been used as a scapegoat in the club’s recent failings.
If you believe what you read in the papers, Arsenal have already tried to sign Julian Draxler. A January bid from the Gunners was revealed, or claimed by Horst Heldt, the sporting director of the German starlet’s current club Schalke 04.
Herr Heldt has been at it again, according to a Sky Sports report, in which he says that Schalke are very confident about keeping their exciting young player, despite the fact that there is a release clause in Draxler’s current contract, thought to be getting on for £40 million.
The widespread belief in the football media is that Arsenal would have had Julian Draxler in the squad now if Arsene Wenger had agreed to pay something close to his release clause value of £37 million, and that the failure to sign the 20-year old sensation in January had left the door open for Bayern Munich to hijack the transfer in the summer.
But Arsenal fans can breathe a little easier after Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, according to The Mirror, insisted that Draxler is not one of their transfer targets this summer. That should hopefully leave the way clear foe Arsenal to sign one of the most exciting young players in the world.
As the Premier League season builds to it’s closest run conclusion ever, with Arsenal and three other sides still in with a very realistic chance of becoming the new champions of England, the players should be thinking of nothing but the next game. But behind the scenes at the Emirates, I expect there is a lot of work and preparation going on for what will happen when the season does come to a close.
If you asked every Arsenal fan in the world to write down the top five players they are hoping and expecting Arsene Wenger to sign in the summer transfer window, I bet there would not be many who did not have Diego Costa and Julian Draxler on the list.
But there are stories about both of these potential signings in the media today and it is not good news for Arsenal fans. 25-year old Costa has drawn attention from many clubs, with Liverpool reportedly meeting his release clause last summer. But he seems committed to his current side Atletico Madrid and their manager Diego Simeone.
I don’t know if you heard anything about it Arsenal fans, but the Gunners were linked with the Schalke and Germany international starlet Julian Draxler. There may have been a couple of small mentions of it in January. According to who you believe, Arsenal did not bid, offered too little or were scuppered by interest from Bayern Munich but one thing we know for sure is that we didn’t get him.
Many people expect Arsene Wenger to try again for the talented youngster in the summer, but I bet the Frenchman is dreading having to deal with Schalke. They never shut up. Wenger likes to keep his transfer dealings as quiet as possible, but the German club’s general manager Horst Heldt seems to be the exact opposite.
The truth comes out about Draxler? by Ash
Although the transfer window has now passed for the season and will not re-open until the summer, by which time Arsenal will have hopefully won the Premier League or if we are lucky even potentially secured a double, one Arsenal transfer target has revealed exactly what seems to be going on with his current situation.
There has been a lot of anger and frustration in the ranks of the Arsenal fans for the last couple of days. It has been tough, with no significant late deals coming to fruition, injuries piling up and Spurs, to paraphrase Roy Keane, letting you down as usual and allowing Manchester City to leapfrog the Gunners on to the top of the Premier League.
Arsene Wenger has come in for some serious stick from some fans, for his failure to sign a striker but mainly for being too cheap to pay the money required to get the young German target Julian Draxler. But Draxler himself has shed a different light on the reasons, as reported by the Mirror, and revealed on German TV that it was the Schalke side that scuppered the move.
Draxler cannot be completely ruled out! by Ash
The Julian Draxler to Arsenal rumour has been the main transfer speculation of the January transfer window, without considering Juan Mata’s move across the BPL. The initial reports over Arsenal’s interest in Draxler were stated back in 2013, even before the window had opened, however upon its opening, the rumour mill went into overdrive as reports succeeded each other by the day.
