The rumours say Wenger will leave, but will he really?

Tuchel, Allegri, or should we be more like Spurs fans? by Konstantin Mitov

Well, well, as usual, it’s February and the mood amongst Arsenal fans is low, after our latest downfall that has been timed perfectly just like any other year. But the hot topic of recent times isn’t what we already know, but whether Arsene will sign a new contract?

I wrote an article here that stated he would stay, and I still firmly believe he won’t leave, but the media keep fueling these reports that Tuchel or Allegri would replace Wenger if he decides to leave.

Both managers were asked that question and both remained coy on the situation as you’d expect, but the media probably do have something on the fact that we might actually be preparing for options if the Frenchman leaves.

If and that’s a big IF he leaves, suddenly all of the people on the board and the coaching staff would actually have to do their job for once. This is interesting, because so far I haven’t seen anything particularly good done by them in the last 10 years.

Arsene’s recent comments that we should be more like Spurs fans is another insult for me at least, because Spurs is the last team we wanna be like. Apart from that, why hasn’t he signed a new contract already? Why does he delay it so much? He doesn’t care about criticism or bad form, because he’d be long gone if such things had an impact.

The only person who can decide if Arsene will stay or go is himself, so why is he delaying the situation? The season will be dead already if we slump against Bayern like we usually do. Our best players are unwilling to sign contracts until the situation clears up.

Last season, City announced Pep mid term and it wrecked their season, but if Arsene is staying why delay the talks? Is he waiting for the end of the season? I’m guessing here. In 2014 he waited and waited till the summer but got 3 years in return. It could be the same this time. I still think he won’t leave, but I might be wrong.

    1. @Ugabooga,
I have my opinion on why I think Wenger should leave Arsenal. But because you also have your opinion should not warrant insulting and calling him names. Respect please.

      1. arsenal007, why should we respect the deluded one, the specialist in failure. after all it is he who told us we should be more like spurs fans. is there a bigger insult out there for us arsenal fans than to be compared to spuds fans . what a creep , no respect from this quarter, buddy !!!.

  1. I think Le Prof has not decided whether he’ll remain at Arsenal or not until there is a clarity to where our season has headed to. But will our season heads to one of the PL and UCL or both titles this season with the FA Cup as a big bonus? This could be the determinant factor for him to extend his staying at Arsenal.

Arsenal are still racing towards capturing three titles this season. And if Le Prof who is responsible for the team selection and game results, and the Gunners who are responsible for their performance on the field of play will iron out the flaws in the team’s game playing thoroughly as from now on, I strongly believed Arsenal will win titles this season and not just a title.

      1. Aww Bless him, he has to be the most optimistic Gooner that ever walked the planet ? he obviously spends a lot of time out in Space.

  2. I think the whole situation is very sad. Wenger deserves respect for the person he is and things he has done for the club in his first 10 years or so. The way he has continued is slowely but surely eroding his legacy. It is a pity he could not retire on a high like SAF. One of his last FA cup wins would have been an end befitting his legacy.

Now he is in a no win situation IMO. We will not win the PL or the CL this season and he knows this.. If he fails to finish in the top 4 and quits he can be rightfully accused of bailing on the club when he has properly destroyed its prospects. If we fail to finish in the top 4 and he stays he can be rightfully accused of not being the manager to bring us back to our glory days.

In most scenarios top 4 or not, it would be best for him to leave. I hope for his sake he finish in the top 4 and quits on some sort of positive note. Leaving the next manager with a decent squad and CL football combined with some financial fire power. Not the end of the world.

Finish 5th or 6th and the new manager will likely inherit a squad void of Ozil and Sanchez, no CL football and a weakened ability to attract badly needed new talent.

Things are not looking good for Wenger and a top 4 finish would be his best case IMO unless he uses that as an excuse to stay, then the whole story will repeat once again.

    1. Excellent comments Jansen.
Personally, I also think we need another manager, if we want to become champions again.
My dream scenario is, that Wenger would become some kind of sports director or whatever the title should be, where can assist the club in attracting players, but with no influence on how the 1’st team is managed in training and in matches.
If that can’t happen (because he doesn’t want another role), he has to go no matter how sad it is in some ways,

  3. Wenger just waiting for some few wins by then his minions are singing one le madman in full swing, thus giving them 4th trophy and Tottenham cup, he signs he’s new contract wash rinse sun dry it and repeat all over next season

  4. Even if AW were to miraculously pull off a “triple” trophy haul. There are many who still hate him, simply because of who he is. It’s not about the 12 years, the 8mil, the specialist in failure or any of those other weak, sad excuses. It’s all about him being “The Frenchman” in English football…
    Plain as.
The other haterz are simply following the social media meme’s like the non thinking sheep they are…

        1. talking of sheep and to quote old dennis healey … being attacked by the NY gunner is like being savaged by a dead sheep!!!!

        2. That’s Madness to suggest the hatred for Wenger is because of his nationality ?
I can’t remember anyone ever saying Wenger out when he was winning the premier league, many moons ago!
It’s all about his continuos failures , in more or last every department that’s bugging the sheeple… Opps i meant people ?

  5. I know Arsene deserve some respect from all of us but anyone can earn respect and also loose it, so why is Wenger given a special treat?
He has lost the trust of almost all of the Arsenal fans and it is looking less likely that the good old days is anywhere around the corner imo, Wenger thank you for everything but your time is over and clearly over the line.

  6. I totally disagree with the statement that “City’s season shattered when Pep Guadiola was announced as their new manager”. City didn’t crash, they achieved what Wenger and the Board take as no 1 priority which is finishing in the top four and qualifying for UCL. Wenger is too proud and have a lot of pride to make him walk away from Arsenal because honestly there’s no other top club in Europe that would accept him, knowing he can’t win a league in over TEN YEARS.
