The Top Four is still open to Arsenal?

With seven Premier League games left to play, Arsene Wenger believes that it is still possible for Arsenal to finish this season in the Champions League places, although he admits that the Gunners may have to win every single one of those seven matches. “It looks like that,” he said.

“That has to be the target. To achieve that, we have to win the next one. I think the next thing we have to achieve is to transfer the energy level we showed on Sunday to the Premier League. We started well at Middlesbrough, so let’s continue that against Leicester.

“The semi-final win will give us a bit more confidence. I think it will convince everybody that with the right energy levels and the right fighting spirit, the right togetherness, we can beat everybody.

“On morale [I’ve seen an improvement], for sure, and certainly the confidence as well. Big games give you confidence and convince you that you can win. That’s the most important thing in our job.

“The top four is open – but what it demands from us is consistency in the results now until the end of the season. It’s still possible, but that means we’ll maybe have to have a perfect run-in.”

We have seen Arsenal finish previous season’s with long winning runs, so maybe it is not such an impossibility, but with our daunting list of fixtures it will be amazing if we manage it.

Every win from now will take us closer to our goal. It could be a very interesting end to the campaign. Let us hope it is in our favour…

  1. If Man U wins Europa (they should) and finish 4th, they would get to UCL that way. Then whatever team is 5th will get UCL. So we have to hope that it finished like this.
    1. Chelsea
    2. Spurs
    3. Man City
    4. Arsenal or Man U.
    5. Man U or Arsenal
    6. Liverpool/Everton

  2. i dont see any way we will finish in top 4 this year:

    Evr (H) 1
    Sou (A) 3

  3. Am just imagining what will happen at arsenal assuming spuds win yhe the title.
    negatively: they will tease us.
positively: it will wake everyone involve ON, starting with fans and the board.

    1. That spurs will finish above Arsenal will be unavoidable but imaging they win the title is just impossible 😉

  4. I can’t help but hope we win every last game despite believing this is not in the clubs interest.

I was very excited about our win against City and about our improvement. Having said that I also have to keep both feet on the ground and be honest with myself about the City win and its importance. Sure it must have been big for the players and a relief for the fans but there were a few big BUTS. We were very lucky with a few of the decisions that went against City, City did not play great and have been inconsistent all year.

I looked at the Chelsea-Spurs games and those two teams appeared at another level from our game against City. You can see with Spurs and Chelsea that these are two extremely well managed teams who stay discplined and know exactly what their role is. That’s a bit different that City.

If the City game as Wenger said shows we can beat anyone than we will soon find out when we play Spurs and an injury-ravaged Man U, both disciplined teams, that of course assumes reality doesn’t show its ugly face against Leicester tonight.

We win our next 3 games and I will become a believer of a top 4 finish, not before then.

    1. Nicely put mate ?
Yes,Chelsea have the experience in their team and management to continue the way they have been but as for the Spuds, they have been in this situation before and they crumbled when the pressure was on and if they lose to Palace tonight and then to us It will seem as if they will suffer the same fate as they did last season ?? finishing behind us.
Hopefully we will do what we normally do towards the end of the season and that’s to finish on a 7-8 game winning run.

      1. Would be great if Spurs don’t win the PL which looks likely because Chelsea appear too consistent and making up 4 points in 5 games is a lot (or 7 points in 6 games). It would be equally great if we can beat Spurs this weekend to ensure they don’t win the PL.

Sadly the real hope for Arsenal fans has to be that Spurs will have trouble hanging on to their top talent this summer. Having said that, this is a rather un-sportsman like and weak hope. Not unlike those who hope for injuries to other team’s best players. It would be nicer if we could rely on our own strength to best Spurs next season rather than on their weaknesses.

  5. One lucky win against City and all our critics have backed off lol so what does the FA do? ? ? they go and appoint Anthony Taylor to Ref the FA Cup final ?? yup, that’s the official who Wenger pushed and swore at ?? if that’s not a deliberate ??then I don’t know what is?

  6. ? Favour Alert ?
    ? Favour Alert ?
    ? Favour Alert ?
    ? Favour Alert ?

?? ” Come on Palace, Smash those Spuds”

    1. Almost sweeter if Spurs fans keep hope by winning tonight only to lose to us this weekend. They lose tonight their season is also over IMO.

  7. If we hadn’t of F’d up the Palace game I think we’d be in with a shout.

Who are we up for in the Manchester derby. If city win and we win tonight we can go level with utd but four behind city after games level, if utd wins we can go three behind them and one behind city. A draw will put us one behind utd and two behind city if we win ours.

    1. Draw would be safest for us since we don’t know which Manchester team is more likely to implode in the final run-in. I expect and fear a Man U victory. There are not many managers better than Mourinho in these final type of games no matter how many injuries his star players have.

I really don’t like Mourinho and would love for him to finish outside the top 4.

      1. Cheers for the reply.

Was beginning to lean towards that myself. Utd have some difficult fixtures, but like you say ..Mourinho, he can be a devil at getting over the line, and we don’t know which team if any could have a poorer run.
