Thierry Henry wants the job and is waiting for Arsenal to phone him….

There have been many rumours about who will be taking over at Arsenal after Arsene Wenger leaves this summer, and one of the early discussions was about Thierry Henry, who is one of the biggest club legends and a friend of Stan Kroenke’s son Josh.

Henry has always maintained that he would like the job one day, so it was no surprise that he was asked if he was still interested in the job, and he replied: “I’m not in or out! I’m nowhere.

“Like I said to you and I said it the other day and I will be clear with that, I said I will never back down from a challenge because that’s my life.

“I just hope the guy who’s going to go to Arsenal is going to have massive shoulders, because it is not an easy job coming after Arsene and he’s going to need time.

“After that, my phone didn’t ring.”

He was then asked why he had a mobile phone on him during the interview, and he joked: “Just in case!”

Henry then went on to praise Wenger for his career at Arsenal, and he thinks he should be judged on what he has brought to the club rather than his trophy haul (which hasn’t been awful either!) “I think sometimes we tend to judge a manager on trophies.” Henry continued.

“But when you change a club for the good, I think that’s what we should see where his legacy is because I remember watching Arsenal before, they were up for the fight, they were going to score and you knew at 1-0 that it was over.

“Was it entertaining, maybe not but they were still successful and then Arsene changed the whole way people saw Arsenal and what they were saying.

“The biggest compliment I always had when I used to play for Arsenal was people telling me ‘we like the way you play’, it was never ‘you won this, you won that, you stayed unbeaten’.

“I swear the only thing they used to say was ‘we like to watch you play because we know we are going to see a good game of football’, and that speaks volumes to the vision the man had and what he did to the club.

“And, yes, people will tell me but the title there, the title this, but I think sometimes you can also judge a man on what he did for the club overall.”

There is no doubt that Wenger changed the face of English football and was very successful whilst doing it, but all good things come to an end and his methods have been surpassed by younger coaches and he has lost his mojo. Maybe hecan find it again at another club with a new challenge, but Arsenal surely need a fresher approach to carry us forward into the future. It doesn’t look like it will be Thierry Henry this time though…..

  1. What Arsenal FC needs is a young but experienced coach (well, maybe not so young – Ancelloti) with a past of some major success trophy wise.

    1. Why young? We need to be looking at experienced, prolific managers. Ancelloti is a great shout. Simeone is my number one choice.

  2. The best men to manage arsenal are either

Leonardo Jardim or Diego Pablo Simeone.

someone that can allow us to compete with the likes of city and utd without having to spend like them.

  3. Henry is a red herring and never in with a remote chance. Far too raw and inexperienced. If they were interested in him , he would have known by now but it was never going to happen. What you might call a non story – or, perish the thought, a space filler for this forum! – and so we move on to the realistic possibilities. Is seems to me that there are two or even three schools of thought about who it should be, in the boardroom and senior management; French, Spanish and German. Time will tell but, PLEASE , can we keep red herrings for the fish market, where they belong?

    1. I say a big Amen, and a massive A-women to that.
I for one cannot imagine a person who did not live up to responsibility saying he love challenge, and asking to be made a manager of Arsenal.
He failed Arsenal at the UCL final against FC Barcelona, he failed Arsene when he left for Barcelona, while doing apprenticeship he failed the capability to manage events, and made mindless comments all in effort to ruin Arsene, who did everthing he did for George Oppon Weah for him, and sacrificed other players opportunity and career to make him whatever he is today. Such sacfificial lambs happened to be from my own land, Victor Ikpeba at Monaco and King Kanu at Arsenal.

    1. Can you tell us which clubs he had manage and what his records are? Well, he should keep waiting. The way things stand with coaching arsenal Patrick V is way ahead of him.

  4. My personal preference is Allegri or Jardim. Allegri because he is a proven winner and Jardim because he can develop players using limited resources. Henry is too raw to manage a club like Arsenal. But he could serve as assistant manager for a few years under the new coach and maybe take over in the future.. The same goes for Viera

    1. According to Sky Sports, talks have already begun with Enrique

As long as he doesn’t bring his failed purchases from Barcelona to Arsenal and does not make the same mistake at Arsenal, he could give us entertaining football shows

It would be interesting to see how he can stand against Mourinho, Guardiola, Klopp and Pochettino

  5. I am not a fan of Enrique, he was not successful in other teams except Barca and we don’t have Messi or Suarez or Iniesta that can cover for the weakness of a manager.
Allegra and Simeone are the two who can make us most competitive against the oil billionaires. They know how to play with a tough defense while being attractive in attack.
If we can’t get either one Jardim is great as he can get the best out of youth or Angelotti as he has the best cv of them all.

    1. Change your stupide name mate .Even when he’s gone the abuse is never ending…pathetic and disgraceful

  6. The problem as I see it is this. These top class managers all require rather large budgets to work with and I doubt our owner will release such funds. So we are left with either getting a yes man who will do exactly as the owner wishes, Eddie Howell? Or a man like Simeone who is proven to achieve good things on a smaller budget. I would not be surprised if someone like Raffa ends up getting the job, a sort of compromise candidate. Hope not, but with this owner just be prepared to be underwhelmed!

  7. It really depends on what goals they set for new manager, and which agrees to the goals. I don’t believe new manager will have the control Wenger did.

Sven scouts players, Huss handles the contracts, and Raul manages day to day operations.

New manager needs to focus on the team; training, developing, tactics, etc… Let them MANAGE the team. Sven will manage scouting and Raul manages the club. Not interested in anyone wanting total control anymore.

    1. No new manager will ever have the total power Wenger had. Things have moved on in the past 22 years.

      1. Durand, exactly; an excellent backroom executive has been put in place. Now what Arsenal need is an excellent experienced coach/manager, particularly to improve the defence and instill determination and a winning attitude.

  8. The best manager must be joachim low,Joachim low and not any other…truth be told He is a tactician with consistency from being an assistant since 2004 and from 2006 Germany has always been a team to reckon with a tiky taka game

  9. Are they seriously considering Henry, I hope not he’s inexperienced and too nice. If they go for a former Gunner I’d prefer Viera but it’s still a bit too early for him.

  10. He’s right, it won’t be an easy job and think, it should be a transition including Wenger for that. The best will be to have Wenger help Henry do transition, be a duo for his last year. As of Madrid game that duo should be on, Henry should be in locker room, training as of today as he can’t be on the bench.. Team need that no fear and fight young attitude and spirit of Henry, a legend with a statue, common sense will be to see his son after him and him to be that mentir on bench transition from each other. We wing Europa, win next EPL and Champions League next year with that duo transition Then story be.great and right. Not sack Wenger til he leaves on his own. The fans of Arsenal for past 20 years are
because of Arsene and indeed he did have an impact on a better football in EPL, it was too bully years ago. Foreign players and him as a manager brought different flavors, with idenity still
    That what he did great.,.

    1. I see everyone is confused, the best, fresh, young modern who can read, Mastermind, read and challenge other coaches is no one other than carzola .

  11. Arsenal already have a replacement in place for Arsene. And just two candidates.. one of Tuchel and Luis Enrique will be the next Manager.

  12. Although we’re unlikely to be in for the rare insane-money transfers like Naymar or Pogba, AFC aren’t exactly poor, and any incoming manager will have strong finances behind him. Therefore I don’t see a problem with getting a big-name coach like Ancelotti/etc, because we could get most big players if the club looks like an attractive place to be.

I think the new set-up will help a lot, with a transfer expert doing transfers, operations experts doing operations, contracts experts doing contracts, and hopefully an up-to-date football motivation, tactics, and team management expert doing the coaching.

Even if the next manager doesn’t succeed, I am excited that Arsenal are finally moving into the 21st century, and hopefully it won’t be long before other fans of big clubs start fearing a game against AFC again 🙂

  13. As I understand it Ancelotti has recently signed a contract elsewhere so we can scrub him out. Also, I would have thought Arsene Wenger would have a say in whom succeeds him which leads me to believe he was encouraged to leave. The selection panel will have a short list of three no more and one of the three will be a `wild card`. With Wenger in his last year of contract it would have made sense to appoint a `manager in waiting` so that there would be a smooth transition period that would help the players, but this was not to be.
