Three clean sheets – Have Arsenal now got the perfect trio in defence?

Not only have Arsenal managed to get three clean sheets in a row for the second time this season, but two of those teams were Man United and Bayern Munich (No disrespect to Watford!) and even better, we have scored 8 goals without reply in that mini-run.

So with Petr Cech in goal, and with any two of Mertesacker, Koscielny and Gabriel in front of him, have we finally got the perfect defence? It was Mert and Kos against Bayern and the BFG said after the game: “Defensively we were together like a unit, we defended to help our team-mates and we played on the counter-attack,”

“I think we were good and we had a lot of potential to score.

“Bayern hadn’t lost a game this season so it was very hard and tough for us but sometimes you need to play differently and everybody in front [of the defence] did their job well – it was very good and we need to keep this for the season.”

Against Man United,it was Mert and Gabriel in front of Cech, and the BFG was equally impressed with that partnership. “We had a good understanding [defensively],” he said. “I think a lot clicked today.

“If one of us won a duel, the other would be there and that was the same in the second half. If he [Anthony Martial] ran past one of us, which can happen, someone else would be there straight away.

“It went well from the start and that’s always crucial. When you take your chances and are strong defensively, that’s a clear indicator that you feel good.”

So now we have three excellent centre-backs can we assume that whichever pair plays we will have an equally solid defence?

Hey let’s not discredit both Monreal and Bellerin! Whilst Monreal has been Mr Consistent, Bellerin has lite the League with his stardust.

I see Berelin going through the same path with Gareth Bale. from fullback to world best forward, now we have the balance needed between defending and attacking. The introduction of Theo as a center forward revived our attacking fluent, the pace from Theo, Sanchez and the incisive passing from Ozil and Carzola always creates fear and make the opposing teams disorganized and tired. Unlike Walcot, Giroud likes to stick at the central position holding the ball, this provide no chance for Sanchez to roam about on the front three and with him Carzola looks non-mobile, he tends to pay short passes in and out while Ozil more often tend to drift to the wings looking for putting in crosses and the overall game is slow which inturn provides room to the opposing teams to attack causing our defense vulnerable and commit mistakes. For me the reason for our improvement is the change in front line. Giroud is good center forward but he is better when coming from the bench while the opposing team is tired. We must stick with Theo, if we are to win anything. Yes you can say Giroud is scoring goal at the moment and for me that is the best time for him to play from the bench. Remember Sir Alex used to play the best scorer of the league Oleguna Solser as a substitute, because he was suited on that time and he was not good enough to start.

I’m not 100% sure but wasn’t Bellerin a winger before he became a wingback?

It’s great that our team has started to perform to the standards that we expect and know that they can achieve.
The question is… what was the problem before?
And to make sure that they keep playing up to this level,
It’s funny how it took a wenger rollicking to kick start our season and long may it continue 😆

The defence has been superb but we should also thank the rest of the team for the clean sheets..esp vs Bayern, the entire team worked hard to assist defensively..

Defense are great atm. Cech has been outstanding, Boss is his usual world class self, gab is like a clone of boss, mert brings the experience, as for mon and bell, say no more. If this unit keeps it’s consistency it will be very hard to break them down. Hope they stay injury free and continue the way they have been playing the past few games. COYG

3-0 against man u, 3-0 against watford and 2-0 against bayern….all came down to consistency…my problem is the injured Ramsey(always consistent dispyt his shy misses on goals)…now dat he is out…its gonna be a big boot for whoever is replacing him…I FEAR FOR THE WORSE NOW

OT: Happy birthday to the boss. Wishing him good health, a happy family, and most importantly more trophies.

Health and happy family is more important than trophies. Your contradicting the reason for even wishing him a happy birthday

I get what your saying though lol

We are his family too you know, the Arsenal family. There is just something about winning, things just fall into place, you feel younger, more vibrant, more at peace with the world and this is what I wish for the boss. Had he been in any other field I would have wished him a promotion, bigger salary or something like that but in football winning trophies and receiving the respect that he gets from most people is as good as it gets.

Tell me mate, how have been your days during our winning streak? Positive I assume.

Arsenal is the best team in the world when they play catch up. Kinda a pain in the ass but what can you do. Players are often to comfortable at times.

    Listen Baby Please

Cech/Bellerin/Koscielny/Mertsacker/Monreal/ Coquelin = Perfect defense for me

Also all the other players working hard too, to get the ball back

I’m hoping Debuchy, Gibbs, Chambers, Gabriel, Arteta, Flamini will get some playing time too so they wont get rustyyyyy on a dailyyyyy in FA Cup and League Cup matches

Arsenal defence are really in other, the work been done le coq are not notice, he one of the reason we happy today. One thing i also notice in this crop of arsenal team that is making we arsenal fans to be happy today is the introduction of walcott as a striker, cos of his pace defenders never overlap to mount presure on us, the remain in their half, he make dem work alot and they get tired. Arsenal will win trophies this season…..
