Transfer window key to Arsenal keeping Ozil and Alexis?

Even though most of the Arsenal transfer rumours about the ongoing negotiations between the club and the two star players Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil suggest that the main stumbling block over the pair signing contract extensions is financial, it will not be the only factor in the minds of the players.

One thing that top players like the German and Chilean international want is to know, or at least hope, that they are at a club which can challenge for major trophy honours. Up until a week ago that was certainly true of the current Arsenal squad but with injury problems, fatigue and whatever else taking their toll that looks a lot less certain after back to back defeats.

So while I think that the club has to make sure it offers the two enough money, I think that Arsene Wenger has to show them some real ambition during this January transfer window. Even if it is only one or two players that the manager goes for, the quality of his targets and signings could be the key to getting Ozil and Alexis to commit their futures to Arsenal.

Even if Wenger makes a big bid for a big name player and is unsuccessful it would show the players currently in north London that he means business, don’t you think?

  1. O LOOK A LOW FLYING PIG. Wenger might buy a few kids or get has been or injured player on a freebe. But spend BIG Money Forget about it.

  2. Not really but winning major trophies would. Showing them how much they are appreciated and valued at the club by making a proper offer would.
It is also important to mention that historically speaking Arsene has been frugal about that period of the year and even an advocate of getting rid of it altogether. Even though a player like say Draxler who is a tremendous and boost are team is a tempting prospect. Even available and Wenger being a known admirer of him. He will not go near that deal even for a bargain 30 million price deal even when offers was said to reach 60+ million in the summer!

On an even more serious note, what is going to get them to stay is:
-getting the right tactics and the best out of them
    -getting the right subs
-making sure the team is focused and locked in
-making sure the team is consistently playing at the high level required to win any game week in week out
-making sure that even if some decisions might go against us, the level of our play will get us over the line regardless
All of those will give us a real shot at a title and ultimately when your about to sign a contract that will give your remaining years of your peak at any club that’s what they want!!
