Following on from Arsenal becoming the most successful side in the cup´s history by winning a second FA cup final in a row, our excitement has been tempered by having an enforced six weeks of no football. Well, we did have the Copa America with Alexis scoring the winner. We also had the England U21’s failing badly, and an excellent showing by Arsenal Ladies at the FIFA World Cup in Canada. I know it’s football, but the fact is that more women are likely to have been comparing bingo sites on bingobuddha.co.uk all summer rather than watching our Ladies teams.
But I digress, as we all do while here is no football on! But our beloved team has returned to action at last and the Gunners produced a blistering pre-season win over Everton to win the Barclays Asia Trophy on Saturday. And we have a chance to add a couple more trophy wins to our haul before the Premier League kicks off in less than three weeks from now.
I know that the Asia cup, the Emirates cup and even the Community Shield are not very important in the grand scheme of things but I think winning them would be great for Arsenal and would set us up perfectly for a proper tilt at the Premier League title.
Winning is a habit and it seems to be one that Arsene Wenger and the players are developing nicely. You could see clearly how much the lack of success and the ever growing wait for silverware was affecting the players until we beat Hull at Wembley a year ago. In fact our nerves nearly made us blow that final as we had the League cup against Birmingham.
Also, with a shorter summer break and pre-season to prepare, I think Arsenal need to treat all the remaining games with respect and try our best to win them. It will not be a disaster if we do not win the Emirates Cup (again) or even if we lose to Chelsea the following week, but how much better would we all feel if there were two more trophies in the cabinet when West Ham come to the Emirates on August 9th?
