VIDEO EXTRA – All of Mesut Ozil’s assists for Arsenal

All I can say is that I cannot wait for this bloody interlull to end and we can finally see Arsenal back in action on Sunday. But in the meantime you can have a look at every single one of the 50 assists that Mesut Ozil has created in his time at Arsenal…..

Here are the first 25…..

And here are the last 25…

I know a lot of people view Ozil as looking a bit lazy, but surely anyone who can get 50 assists quicker than anyone else ever in the premier League can’t be all bad can he?

  1. He is definitely a creative player, but he is often not surrounded by other players that have similar concept as his thinking

In the Germany vs Spain friendly match, both Iniesta and Ozil showed their nice ideas, but Iniesta was accompanied by players that are used to play with tiki-taka system. Those Spanish players always make themselves available whenever one of their teammates was surrounded by the Germans

Unless Arsenal can create such system that will force their players to work harder to help their teammates, a more skillful, pacey, hardworking and tricky attacking midfielder like Isco/Thiago/De Bruyne is more suitable for Arsenal’s current system

    1. I totally agree with your list of attacking midfielders as they are well rounded in their respective games not one dimensional like Ozil and i will add Cazorla to that list too.

These set of players are so unpredictable and dangerous, hence always a menace for most defense.
Imo, Ozil contributes to our predictability with his style of play and he depends too much on the quality of his team to flourish, he is an icing on the cake player whom you cant be trusted to improve or carry his team consistently ala Cazorla, Payet and the likes.

  2. Yea Ozil is special when he wants but i still believe he can do so much more, lets see what happens with Auba and Laca both available for play, i think with Henrikh and Ozil both assist kings we should be scoring for fun that is if our players remember also to defend and hustle for every ball

its mouth watering to think Auba, Laca, ozil, Henri, Aaron and Jack all playing together all we need is young Viera and Seaman and the job is done 🙂

    1. @tas
No i disagree, ozil is special when the opponents allows him to be, not when he wants to be. We all know ozil doesn’t thrive when there is pressure from the opponents. Ozil can’t carry a team, he is a player that can thrive in a team that is already strong because he will add to the overall quality.

      1. I think we are both saying the same thing “but” opponents know if they stop Ozil play then we didnt have any answers and its why his constantly shadowed, we must not forget Ozil is an assist man he has to make those special passes for us and to make those passes he has to make space and work under small and crowded space which is hard but he makes it happen and that’s why his special,

but now with Mkhitaryan, JW and Aaron playing he will have more freedom because there are other play makers on our team so Ozil wont be so crowded as much and if he is the others can almost do the job

  3. Some of his assists are not highlighted here, remember his assist in his first game against Sunderland for Giroud for our first goal.

Having said that, some of the assists are lucky set pieces assist

  4. Only 10 assists were against quality of Spurs, ManC, ManU, Chelsea, L’pool. I am not saying he isn’t a good player, but that help backs up what I’ve always been saying about him going missing against quality. I would love to see chances created stat against quality teams, because Ozil obviously creates many chances that are not converted, so he would deserve credit for that as well, but again, I don’t think that would be overly impressive going on what I see him.

People often argue he needs quality around him, well I would argue he’s got even worse since Auba, and Miki joined.

    1. We are all scared to admit the truth. When there is pressure from a team, a big or small team, ozil can’t take it. It just happens that most top teams pressure you with quality and smart players. If you give ozil space he becomes the best attacking midfielder in the world. I don’t like to compare players but you look at kevin de bruyne, they try to hack him down in a lot of games but he takes it and even comes out winning the game for his team. Against tottenham, Ali always broke his left leg, he gets up carries on and scores with that same leg. Just shows ozil is far behind a lot of attacking midfielders in responding to pressure. Its why he is so good for germany.

      1. the truth is when we play big teams all our players are under perform that’s because whether they are up against better players or physical players and Ozil is usually the escape goat

        1. The truth is he has provided more chances than any other players in the PL. That’s his job done, a pity our so called forwards can’t hit the target.

  5. It doesn’t matter what Ozil does there will always be the moaners. He looks lazy… He doesn’t track back… He doesn’t score enough goals… He doesn’t etc. etc. etc.

There is something else he doesn’t do and that is lose the ball unlike a certain Chilean who is stiil doing it at Man U and never got the stick Ozil still gets. Lets face it he is the best No. 10 we’ve had since Bergkamp and if he had players like Viera, Petit, Pires, Overmars, Henry etc. around him he would have probably doubled his assists.

Aubameyang and Lacazette are a good start and if we can finally add some more quality in the team next season that would be the time to judge him.

    1. I agree about Sanchez andcliff!! Yes with Auba & Lacca…. and to bring in the other players we need, the future’s looking bright ?

      1. The future’s definitely looking a lot brighter Sue. Gazidis has certainly added a couple of class appointments in Mislintat and Sanllehi who both have extensive contact lists in Germany and Spain. I can see Arsene Wenger leaving this summer, it’s sad but necessary to enable the changes the club have to make. To leave it another year will only prolong the agony.

I just look forward to us wiping the smirk off Spurs’ face!

  6. Ozil needs quality behind him in central midfield (not just in front of him) ie Cazorla, Rosicky, Viera quality players.

He won’t track back and try to get the ball. Mkhitaryan is lazy defensively too. Ozil wants the ball do do his magic with but someone needs to get it to him
