Even though Arsene Wenger rested practically his whole first team for the match against Olympiakos, there are still a few injuries from the previous games and the two most worrying for Arsenal fans are Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski.
Walcott has been our most influential attacker when given playing time this season and most Arsenal fans would also agree that Podolski is our best candadate for the left-wing spot.
Wenger revealed this evening: “Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott (calf) are out. Bacary Sagna (foot) and Laurent Koscielny (thigh) are not back. From Tuesday night in Greece there are no new injuries so we have a selection from the combined squad of Tuesday and Saturday.”
Carl Jenkinson and easily cover for Sagna and we have enough centre-backs to do without Koscielny, but I can imagine Gervinho and Ramsey being used to cover our two best wingers, which will not be the best news that Arsenal fans want to hear right now.
The good news is that Wenger does not think Podolski will be out for long. He said: “It is a hamstring. It should be short-term.”
I am sure everyone is worrying about Andre Santos who has hardly been selected for the squad lately, but Wenger also gave us an update on the Brazilian defender. “He will not be ready for Saturday but he is not far away with an abdominal injury.”
Abou Diaby and Lukasz Fabianski are unlikely to figure again this year….
