Happy New Year, Theo. The Arsenal board have stopped messing about and will give the England international around £90,000 a week on a five year deal which the 23-year old could sign as early as this week. Walcott has proved his worth as a central striker to a sufficient extent to convince Arsene Wenger that he must remain a Gunner, and he will get a signing on bonus of around £3 million according to the Daily Mail.
Wenger has insisted that the board cannot let another of our top players go. It is ridiculous that it has taken this long, because Walcott and Wenger essentially wanted the same thing. Theo accepts that he will not always play through the middle, but he is happy that Wenger has seen that he can do it and he should improve steadily.
Once the fastest mouse in all of North London puts pen to paper, it will be a boost to the rest of the Arsenal players and will allow Wenger to concentrate fully on who else to bring in to the club, and how to plan for the future. It will also mean that Wenger will not have to worry about losing Walcott late in the January transfer window when there is no time to replace him.
Hopefully the announcement will soon be released on the official Arsenal website. Theo has got what he wants, so there should be no more delay.
