International round-up: Ospina lucky, Bellerin and Sanchez would rather forget

Three of our first-team squad featured for their countries in the last 24 hours, with David Ospina, Hector Bellerin and Alexis Sanchez all in action.

The young Spaniard was making his fourth appearance for Spain’s Under-21 side, but it was not an outing to remember. His side suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Croatia, making way for their opponents to move to the top of their qualifying group. The result does not reflect the stats however, with Spain dominating the possession, and Bellerin not having been at fault for any of the three goals.

David Ospina was on the winning side against Bolivia yesterday night, despite conceding on two occasions. His side managed a much needed win, having earned only four points from their previous four qualification outings, and are now in the hunt to earn a place in the play-off rounds thanks to an injury time winner from Edwin Cardona.

Sanchez was playing at the early hours in the morning against Argentina, in hope of building a gap between themselves and the bottom five in the group. The game started well with an early goal for the Chileans, but Argentina overturned the early lead to go in 2-1 up at half-time, and the game finished with the same result. Sanchez will not have been happy with his display, having had very little influence on the game, and will be disappointed having skied a late free kick also.

I’m just happy that we no injuries to report yet, although Ozil and Iwobi have recovered from slight issues in the week… We know we are bound to get at least one injury by the end of the international break, right?

  1. Lollll…..Bellerin and Spain had the better stats but got hammered 3-0, I bet he thought he was involved in a club game for Arsenal……when the season is over Sqnchez needs to take at least a month away from the game, to recover his form and confidence and most importantly to get some much needed rest

    1. It’s not rest he needs its practicing kicking with his left, then he will have confidence in going past players on his left side. All teams know now his weakness and they exploit it. He has to change his game plan or end up a has been. CB
