Welbeck going for a bronze as England take on Belgium

Danny Welbeck is Arsenal’s last man standing at the World Cup, and despite having only played 11 minutes in the competition so far (incidentally against Belgium, today’s opponents) he could be in line for a Bronze medal for finishing third if they can reverse the result in the Group stages.

I can’t see Gareth Southgate playing a weakened team this time around, but after watching his first team only manage one shot on target in the 120 minutes of the semifinal against Croatia, I can certainly see him putting out some fresh legs which may give Danny a chance to shine.

Belgium will also be playing to win today as a third place is better than none, and to be honest they have some great individual players like De Bruyne, Hazard, Courtois and Kompany, but England can beat them by playing more like a team than a set of individuals, and Southgate has drilled them well in their tactics. For the England boss it is still a matter of pride to win today. “Now my care is for everybody else and picking them up first and foremost, energizing them for this game. We’ve got to to finish well. We’ve set a level of working and performing that we want to maintain and take pride in. Your responsibilities lie else elsewhere as a manager. It’s different but no less painful, for sure, but I’ve also got to get everyone else through the next three days.

“When you get close to success it drives you more, because you can see things are possible. I’ve always felt that way. Anything I’ve done in my life you want to be in the games that matter and you want to be winning things where possible.”

“We have high motivation to perform and finish with a medal at a World Cup, which only one English team have ever done,” Southgate continued. “We owe it as much to ourselves as to our nation to finish well. We’ve set the standard of how we work, the standard of how we play, and we want to maintain those standards right to the end.”

“I’m not scared. Not even of the big bad wolf, really. We’re here to try and improve every time we play, every time we go into a tournament. There were low expectations this time which relieved the pressure, but there was still pressure to get out of the group, win a knockout game, win a penalty shoot out. They coped brilliantly with that.”

This is sure to be a very competitive game between two teams that are desperate to win and is definitely worth watching. Belgium are favourites at 13/10 with their world class stars, but England have the secret weapon of Harry Kane, who will be keen to ensure the Golden Boot, and maybe Danny Welbeck will come on and shock the world by scoring the winner. The Three Lions are a very well-priced 9/4 and could be great value to give you an interest in the game….

Yes, Southgate might want to use some fresh legs, because their first team players must be physically and mentally jaded after the defeat

But I don’t think Welbeck would play

Am very sure England with there spuds player will do what we’ve all come to know of them, lose a trophy, theirs no way they are winning

How is he going for bronze. He only had 10 minutes of play. This is an insult to us and also an insult to the players who achieved the thirds place match.

It’s an insult to even consider playing for a Bronze medal is a form of success. No winning mentality whatsoever is exactly why we are continually also rans.Winning is everything.Second place is nowhere.
I believe Emery knows this.Arsenal need to get the winning mentality back into the whole squad. And as far as England are concerned does anyone seriously care?

Players clubs are a factor. Winning is a habit. Those used to it will bring that mentality to the England arena. Equally choking at a critical stage is also habit forming, one gets to accept the nearly man role.

It’s not retarded. It’s basic sports psychology.

Did he not go out on loan? Birmingham I seem to remember. Not too sure he got much game time.
This was a player Wenger signed because he thought he could turn a non-League player into a Premier League Player as Leicester City did with Jamie Vardy.Wenger at the time was struggling to get Premier League performances out of Premier League players so why he wanted to waste time and effort on something that was not an immediate priority is beyond me.
On a Plus Point for Cohen Brammell-He was loaned out to gain experience so at least he was spared Wengers inept and non-existent coaching of a defender. The lad might just have a career now

Welbeck should’ve been used more in this tournament. His record for England was going very well so it was strange to see him being totally blanked. Kane was bullied but Croatia, he was, the man on him was kicking him off the ball he was all over him. Welbeck’s pace could’ve been a threat, then Vardy too who is good at countering. Welbeck was the form player before the tournament and he has very decent for his country.

It’s not England but Scums in disguise.

And the good thing is Scums are 1-0 down.

    Adams is right afterall.
