Welbeck pushing himself TOO hard to improve for Arsenal?

Danny Welbeck has only been an Arsenal player for a month and some of that was taken up by his time with the England national team during the last international break. And most Arsenal fans and pundits have been reasonably impressed with his contribution to the cause so far.

Welbeck may have missed a few chances but he has scored a good goal and provided an assist, which for a player not used to his team mates and with not many proper training sessions to get used to them, that is not bad. But the former Man United forward is harder on himself and was a bit disappointed with his latest showing, against Tottenham in the north London derby, as he explained to Arsenal Player.

Danny said, “In the first half I was more of a threat, in the second I didn’t really feel like I did as much as I should have. I am a bit disappointed with that and I will work on the training pitch with the rest of the players and hopefully be involved much more throughout our games.

“It’s been very welcoming from the fans, the whole club and everyone involved with Arsenal and it is a great honour for me to be here. I am just looking forward to improving here and to making sure I give the best I can for Arsenal.”

I for one think he has got the right attitude and abilities to really thrive at the Emirates and we have heard a lot of praise coming from the likes of Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla for what he brings to the team. If he really is as determined to improve and succeed as he makes out, I reckon that Wenger will have found us a real gem. Do you agree?

  1. I think a few of our past players could do with that attitude that Welbeck has, probably a few of our current ones too

  2. Please! Lets give him time to settle, theirry henry wasnt an overnite success, so lets give danny welbeck some time guys! He will come good, i can see by his workrate that he is trying! Lets not pressure him! Coyg!

    1. Except that he doesnt have the excuse of “adapting” to the EPL..If Welbeck was that good do you think Man U would have sold him to a rival?

    2. @Greg
I think Welbeck came to Arsenal to stake a claim as a CF. Man United didn’t play him in his best position all the time and now his got a great chance. Go on Welbeck it’s time to shine and make yourself a legend.

  3. He needs to improve on

    > Needs to shoot more often
    > Needs to be in the box more. We’re often left with no one in the box. I can see why he’s played on the wings most of his career.
    > Needs to improve his decision making. That flick against Tottenham was awesome but his decision making failed him at the crucial moment
    > Needs to improve his fitness. He seems to be a 70 minutes player at the moment.
    > Needs to simplify his game. A chip might look good in match of the day but it is no more effective than a shot. If he still insists on chipping goalkeepers he should learn to do it properly (hint from Vela).

    1. @Twig
Have you ever thought he plays how the manager wants him to play. I think if we use him as a CF he will go from strength to strength.

  4. Wellbeck is enthusiastic and
pacy but… is he top class?
Or is he a younger faster Giroud?
Yes he’s new and the club never fields a
settled side but Giroud has had that
all the time too. And Wellbeck has
    Sanchez and Ox.
If the massive organisation that is Man U
could not get the best out of him
what makes us think we can?
A good comparison is how Chelsea
are getting the best out of Costa.
Are Wenger and the coaching staff up to it?
    I hope so.
It all comes back to the quality of the Manager.
Mourinho v Pellegrini v Wenger v Rogers v Van Gaal
v Pochitino v Martinez and now Koemann.

  5. Which manager do you think is more excited about the upcoming Chelsea versus Arsenal clash?

The Special One, Jose Mourinho (Thumbs Up)
The Professor, Arsene Wenger (Thumbs Down)

    1. Mourinho has bought some lube in anticipation of the buggery chelsea will be dishing.

Someone give kos some speed on game day

  6. I still remember how the so called football experts (the jokers) on this site predicted that costa would have been a flop in the EPL..But then again i have heard worse..Like Messi not being cut out for the EPL..Idiots

  7. I’d prefer a front 3 of Alexis, Walcott and Ox if I’m completely honest. That’s pure pace. I still think Giroud is a better option than Welbeck too. Since there’s now pace on the wings either side of him, Giroud’s ability to hold the ball up is very useful as it gives our wingers a chance to catch up to the play and make runs. Also Giroud is more of a target in the box and is more likely to win headers from crosses or set-pieces, both in defence and attack. I think Welbeck would play best alongside Giroud, rather than playing up front on his own – they could probably link up very well together. The problem is neither if them are particularly good at taking their chances to get the ball in the net.

  8. His stats are interesting for last season in EPL.
He scored 9 times with 4 assists in 25 appearances.
But he scored 8 times with 3 assists in 13 appearances when played as CF (as opposed to LW).
He should have a bright future at Arsenal if he plays as CF.

  9. Wenger has no where else to hide not even behind the recent spate of injuries as he had ample opportunity during the summer to adequatelystrengthen his squad. As i have been saying for a long time now, our Manager has lost the plot and he should be allowed to walk! Getting too old to change now!!!!

  10. Wenger preparing us all for another hiding at Chelsea with all this injury crisis talk! Bye, bye Wenger. Couldn’t even motivate his team to beat a useless Spurs team that were humiliated at home by lowly WBA. Rubbish!!

  11. @muffdiver. Give speed to kos? I say give all the rations of speed to per, god knows he needs it!! Also nygunner mentioned flamini at cb with kos, why not got to be better than per.

  12. @goonerretic
Chelsea Didn’t think Sturridge was that good when They were Selling Hum To Looserpool.. Now without Sturridge Liverpool Can’t Win Matches.. At times one needs a change of Environment to Shine..

  13. Very happy to have Welbeck at the club-

I believe we have 2 good strikers in Welbeck and Giroud- but lets be honest we do not have a striker that scares the opposition. Aguaro, Ibrahamavich, Costa, Falcao, Saurez all scare the opposition – until we have a striker in that class I don’t believe we will win the EPL, or Champions League-

    Do you agree?

  14. The two top teams in the EPL have spent a tremendous amount of money to get there. I’m proud that Arsenal is fiscally responsible(though sometimes fiscally baffling – see DM) and that we earn our way. Welbeck fits Arsenal. Sure, he has some things to learn, he is not immediately world class, but that’s why he is here.

Welbeck will need to learn composure. His finishing is a bit labored and inconsistent because he is too panicked and too eager. He’s also needs to be a bit stronger in holding the ball. Other than this, he has the right tools to be great for Arsenal.
