Wenger admits Arsenal could lose Alexis Sanchez to Man City

During the summer transfer window, which ultimately left most Arsenal fans extremely disappointed by the failure of Arsene Wenger and the Arsenal board to spend the sort of money that we were led to expect, one positive thing was how staunchly determined the boss was not to sell Alexis Sanchez to a Premier League rival.

There were Arsenal transfer rumours suggesting that the deal was going to be done on deadli9ne day but as we know it did not happen and Wenger claimed it was not even close to happening. However, he did not sound half as sure of himself this week in the press conference ahead of the away game at Watford.

As reported by The Mirror, Wenger admitted that any scenario was possible when it came to the Chile international star and his possible transfer away from north London during the next transfer window coming up in January, and that will be a real concern to Gooners everywhere.

The Frenchman said, “In our situation, we have envisaged every solution.

It is possible.”

The manager also spoke about whether to play the star striker this weekend against the Hornets after the disappointment of Chile missing out on next summer’s World Cup and some of the physical treatment he took while on international duty.

But if Arsenal are going to have any hope of persuading Sanchez to stay we need to be competing for the title when January comes and that surely means playing our best players, don’t you think? Do you expect Alexis to complete this whole season as a Gunner?

  1. It could happen, because Sanchez would see that Guardiola and Manchester City would have a bigger chance to win the Premier League and the Champions League in this season. Since Sanchez cannot go to World Cup, he would want to get a prestigious trophy in club level.

Personally, I want him to get all major achievements he could get in his short football career. I don’t like to see a great footballer wasting his life under a bad management and system, because it reminds me of the common blue-collar workers’ fate in a bad company.

But if Sanchez really wants to challenge himself in a more difficult environment, Arsenal is the place. Maradona has proven that a great player could bring a club like Napoli back to their glory.

The other example is Kante, Vardy and Mahrez for Leicester City. If Sanchez is truly a great player, he should be able to do the same thing for Arsenal.

    1. I agree. He has (had) opportunity to become a legend at Arsenal –

He won’t get that chance at any other team.

Neman could achieve that at PSG – and I applaud for leaving Barca.

Messi is best player Ive ever seen – but he has not achieved what Maradonna did. Go to a bad team – and make them champions.

Messi – has taken the easier road. Only glitch in his legacy.

  2. What a load of codswallop about sanchez great footballer, he’s got energy I admit but no single player makes a team, good example Chile, he should have been sold in my opinion and I think wenger made a bad judgement we played and won games without ozil and sanchez already so I don’t see the problem and for what I’m hearing the rest of the squad prefer it so especially without sanchez

  3. When city did not get Sanchez they
    spent big on Bernardo Silva
    8 years younger than Sanchez.
They also have David Silva, Sterling,
Sane who can all play where Sanchez plays.
    What City need are defenders.
47 mill Mendy is out for the season Kompany is
injury prone while Stones and Otamendi are marginal.
The last thing City need is Sanchez.
City should offer 10 mill final offer in Jan Wenger will take anything.

  4. Wenger should sell Sanchez in January and keep Ozil if he signs a new contract, otherwise he should sell them both. A tree or two cannot make a forest, except Messi of course. Sanchez should have qualified his country Chile to the world cup if he is that good . Afterall, that is exactly What Messi did for Argentina. So my suggestion is that Wenger should sell them and bring him reinforcements in January. Players like Lemar, Marez ,e.t.c are there to be taken .No two players should hold Arsenal to ransom. Soldiers will go and come, but the Barrack will always remain.

  5. can alexis improve mancity?
i dont think so. Leroy sane is a far better player than alexis now.that kid can beat his man every single fxxxing time.alexis cuts in then run around.and believe me he wont score those goals of last season either.sell him to city

  6. As much as I love him I’m getting really p****d off with hearing about will he stay will he go! If he wants to go then let him! We’ll survive

  7. What’s worrying isn’t simply the money being spent. What has really worried me about this window is that even by the higher ups standards (not ours) they haven’t achieved what they wanted. There is no way in hell they are happy to let ozil and Sanchez leave on a free and tried this summer to lock them down. Failed. They wanted to keep the squad largely as is, build and develop. Gabriel wanted out, mustafi wanted out, ox wanted out. They were going to sell chambers but changed their mind. Flirted with letting mustafi go, changed their mind. No way letting Sanchez go, last day changed their mind.
A lot of people, being paid a lot of money to manage situations like this effectively with a clear plan and contingencies. The “stability” of this club is much closer to precariously managed chaos.
Despite some fans swearing they know exactly how the club is run and who is responsible for what I still don’t know who exactly is to blame. This lack of accountability by the club give us fans no one target. So a united fan base is harder to create. And that suits the management just fine.

    1. The targets are clear, they are the ones that get the biggest paycheck in the club. The investors, the board (Kroenke, Usmanov, etc), the executives (Gazidis, etc) and the manager (Wenger).

We cannot blame Mustafi, Chamberlain, Ozil, Sanchez and the previous ex-players (Van Persie, Fabregas, Henry, Clichy, etc) for wanting to escape the train wreck. I am sure most of you work for a company and want a better career, but your boss would deem you as a traitor, because your service is highly required in his company.

There is no saint and no villain in this situation. We should look at all problems from two opposite sides.

  8. Players who do not want to play for the club -and by PLAY- I don’t just mean appear on the field, but fight tooth and nail for the club, regularly, are next to useless. hence Ozil and esp Walcott are a waste of space. Sanchez will always work hard but it is clear his heart is elsewhere , so for THAT reason, I would also sell him in Jan, along with all the other shirkers , no matter who thay are. No title winning side (or serious clallengiing for title) ever carrfies passengers. Fergie, Mourinho, Guardiola , Klopp, Pochettino, Conte and their like would NEVER have stuffed their squads with deadbeat coasters like Wenger does. Results prove this truth!

  9. I don’t know what to believe no more, one day we won’t sell him and he’ll see out his contact.. another day we won’t sell to our direct rivals, we can’t strengthen our rivals./

then here comes day 3 where all the conditions above are broken and the manager and the board will be more than happy to get the cash and ignore the 2 good factors they said before the transfer window closed

Is it old age that makes him forget what he promised or the greed for money that’s the driving force of our club at the moment?

  10. Well, that’s quite obvious. It’s almost certain. Alex wants to join Papa Pep

At the very least we need two top players to replace him ie Draxler and Lemar. Three if Ozil leaves ie Draxler, Lemar and one of these Asensio, Raktic, Reus, Gotze, Veratti, Isco. Also sell Theo, Wilshere to fund them

  11. What happened to the famous Wenger “wisdom”:
It is the perfect situation, when you have players into their last year of contract???

I think, we should give Sanchez for free right now to anyone, who agrees to take Wenger also.

  12. He should have been sold in the summer. Not only his head has been turned by City, but now that Chile failed to qualify for the WC, I feel he’ll be even more down and distracted. I love the guy, but I hate his antics sometimes. Plus, I don’t think he’s gonna make City any stronger. Sane, and Sterling have been playing well so why ruin the chemistry? Anyway… he’ll be gone in the summer for free most likely, and I wish him well.

  13. I can consider this the stupidity of arsenal, arsenal fans and arsenal manager Wenger, articles like this would have long passed by now, if we had just sold both Ozil and Sanchez in the summer

Its obvious we would not have gotten like for like players in the summer transfer market, but there were players available that offered, skills and attributes that would be an asset to the Gunners run for top four. Yes, ozil an sanchez are good players, but good players are needed who works for the club and not themselves. In all honesty Ramsay and Giroud have done more than the mention duo in getting silverware for this club, but are not held in such esteem as Ozil and Sanchez.

Now when we should only be focus on getting up the table the distraction of Ozil and sanchez side-show has now started to get its own little spotlight which grow larger as the next transfer window gets closer opening. Our players are not the strongest mental, therefore i have fear that it will draw the attention of our players which will lead to affecting how we play at the moment. Totally the wrong time to get negative vibes in the camp, which could have been sorted long before the season started.
