Wenger delay to see Juventus beat Arsenal to Mahrez transfer?

There are quite a few IFs in this particular Arsenal transfer rumour, or the latest development in an ongoing rumour because Arsene Wenger did try to sign Riyad Mahrez last summer but was knocked back by the Algerian international who agreed to another season with Leicester City.

After Wenger spoke highly of the attacking star once again recently and even hinted at a possible bid many of us thought it was about to happen but Mahrez himself has revealed that no offers have been made as yet and although there could be good reasons for this delay from the Arsenal boss, it could spell bad news for our transfer pursuit.

That is because The Mirror are reporting that the Italian Serie A champions Juventus have become interested in the 26-year old after their own attempts to sign Douglas Costa from Bayern Munich have not gone so well.

The Turin club is still hoping to get the Costa deal done, apparently, so if Arsenal were to move now we might have a clear run at him. Any more delay, however, could see us up against Juventus who reached the Champions League final this year and are hot favourites to retain the title next season.

Which would you prefer if you were Mahrez?

Bob.

    1. He wasn’t ours to lose ?? so keep on stating the obvious ??

        1. But Wenger hasn’t bid for him, so don’t confuse fans targets with Arsenal’s targets, otherwise things will get very confusing ??

          1. Exactly no one from Arsenal said we were in for him im sure if you ask Wenger about half the players in the league he will have good things to say.
Doesnt mean we are after them.

      1. Swap Sanchez for Aguero, Swap Giroud+25 million for Lacazette, drop the ridiculous interest in Mbappe and offer 80 million for Verratti instead, if Bellerin wants to leave, use the funds to get Van Dijk, if he stays, we go for Jonathan Tah or just go for him anyways…we need a physically imposing and commanding center back to phase out Mertesacker. Get Calhanoglu, who appears to be available for 30 million pounds, that boy is slick! He is a 23 year old Ozil, the risk is that we might have two lazy genii on the team or they could end up trying to show who’s boss by raising their games respectively. As for Gnabry, if Bayern totally believed in him, they’d give him a five year contract, his assists to goal ratio are worryingly low and he’s not going to work in our new formation anyways. I’m not Apparently we are in for Bernd Leno; a team with Cech, Van Dijk, Xhaka, Verrati, and Aguero as its spine is destined for the very top. Mahrez so far is a one season wonder.

  1. Apparently, Leicester’s asking price is putting Wenger off.

Anyways, without more delays checkout Wenger’s 3 main targets that were revealed in the press on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Daily Mirror, Wenger has drawn up a list of the three main men he wants to land this summer after signing a two-year deal to stay at The Emirates.

The trio Wenger apparently wants are Monaco pair Kylian Mbappe and Thomas Lemar and Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette.

And while Wenger may be confident of luring Lemar and Lacazette, he will have his work cut out to snare France forward Mbappe, who is being courted by Real Madrid.

Mbappe also recently claimed to win the Champions League was “a dream” thus making Wenger’s efforts to sign the 18-year-old even more difficult.

Arsenal have though made a bid of £87million, which has been rejected and are believed to be preparing a world-record £122million move for the player.

    1. “The trio Wenger apparently wants are Monaco pair Kylian Mbappe and Thomas Lemar and Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette.”

out of the trio, i want Auba the most!!!!

  2. Wenger gets put off by asking prices quite often

Wenger didn’t want to pay £18 million to Liverpool for xabi Alonso. He only wanted to pay £15 million

I would prefer Mahrez to Turan

    Why not try Douglas Costa?

  3. Some reports are suggesting that Sanchez has apparently asked to leave, but his agent isn’t denying this rumour and remains tight lipped on this subject due to loss of bonuses that his client would lose if He hands in a transfer request. ?? And Who said that Money wasn’t a motive for the Chilean? Anyways, it’s either Munich or stay & sulk for a year then jog on for free.

    1. If he wants out then get him out and let him go!! You do not need a sulky player in a dressing room and he can be the king of histrionics.

Thank you for your services Alexi but you ain’t the club mate and everyone can be replaced. Sell him to Bayern, he might upset their drsssing room instead.

Besides as much as he is a good player he is prone to sulks, prone to keeping hold of the ball too long when not required and prone to not making the easy pass but instead
going on a run into a dead end. He basically isn’t a Henry, a Bergkamp or a Overmars.

So he will be a loss but not irreplaceable- someone will step up.

  4. Dithering is a Wenger attribute

    Think about it
Welbeck, Ozil. He got them on the last day of the window
I like both but instead of Welbeck he could have got a Top striker earlier instead of panic buy
Ozil is good but £42 million was more of. Panic buy and too much money

    Do business early
Give new players a couple of weeks to adjust to new team
Don’t rely on last minute bargains

Also we got Sead on Free Transfer so we have already saved some money.
Now go ahead and spend some serious cash

    1. Ozil a panic buy? ?? yeah right! You’re forgetting just how much that signing lifted the whole atmosphere in and around the club. Even our players were buzzing with excitement with the Ozil signing.

There’s no way that Ozil was a panic buy, if was a signing to appease the fans during turbulent times. So we can expect something bigger during this transfer window. If you catch my drift? ??

      1. Yeh plus Spuds tryed to stop and did delay it so it only got done last day wasnt Arsenals fault in truth.

  5. Taken from live Arsenal Transfer news:

14:00: Olivier Giroud could reportedly help pave the way for Alexandre Lacazette to join Arsenal.

The Gunners are in talks with Lyon over the striker, with £60m being demanded by the French club.

However, according to Le10 Sport, the two sides have spoken about the possibility of an exchange in the past few days involving Lacazette’s France team-mate Giroud.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas is said to be keen on the idea and indicated his wish to set up a swap during negotiations.

Aulas still wants a fee as well as Giroud for Lacazette, but Arsenal are also considering the recently discussed prospect.

    1. Would like to keep Giroud as a sub though but at 30 plus, i doubt he’d want to play that role

      1. Hahaha ?? Obviously not, since Super-Sub Lamp-post has already stated that he wants more game time.
Anyways, I would use him as bait to get Lacazette and You can always buy yourself a Giroud poster for that lonely spot on your bedroom wall, that’s if you have a soft spot for him? ??

  6. Not all that keen on Marhez. Yes he’s much better than Walcott with ball at his feet. He’d add to our passing game, which Wenger no doubt would like. He’d add to our creativity. But he reminds me of the type we used to sign when we first became soft pushovers. He hasn’t got a steel about him, a will to succeed. These are the type that we need, all league winners have these players then with a sprinkling of a Marhez can help. But we have Ozil,, not sure I like the idea of these two in the same lineup. Turan has a steel about him, Turan can add to our passing game, our creativity, but also our doggedness. Alexis or Ozil, maybe both asked for this signing too, they didn’t cry out for Marhez. He’s not too many years left in him, but that is the only reason why we can sign him.

  7. Premier League fixtures for new season are published at 08.30 tomorrow and let’s see if they spur (sorry for swear word there) the boss into action.
Opening games with spuds, chelsea, city and united could get him moving eh?

  8. I reckon you can use the same text from any of the previous seasons and just change the name of the player and names of clubs, because Arsenal is always beaten to it for any a bit above average player.

  9. If we are going to battle with Juventus over players then we should try and sign Steven Nzonzi, Juventus are in talks over a £30m pound deal for him. He has PL experience, will provide us with physicality in midfield and also is able to dictate play. He is the orchestrator in the Sevilla team. If we can sign Lacazette/Aubameyang, Nzonzi and maybe Seri then I feel we will be competitive next season.

  10. Seriously, who wants Mahrez?? One season wonder, and we’ve had enough of those over the years…
