Wenger hails Arsenal team spirit and commitment in Chelsea win

Arsene Wenger was understandably delighted after watching his Arsenal team dismantle our former bogey side Chelsea and give him first blood over their Antonio Conte, the new manager over at Stamford Bridge. As deflated as the Italian was during and after this comfortable and emphatic win for the Gunners, Wenger could hardly keep the smile off his face.

In this post match interview reported by the BBC the Frenchman made light of the fact it was a fine way to celebrate his 20th anniversary as manager of Arsenal, but as the interviewer pointed out it was even sweeter that this milestone was marked by beating Chelsea as they had spoiled both his 500th and 1000th game in charge.

So I am sure that the boss did get an extra buzz from this game because of the circumstances, but perhaps even more important and encouraging for Wenger was the manner of our performance and what it suggests for the future. He pointed out the united nature of the way we played, talking about the commitment, unity and the team spirit we showed from the start.

He made sure to praise the whole team rather than pick out certain individuals and this is what Wenger has been talking about for some time. So after this complete team showing, do Arsenal look like proper title winning material once again?

Bob.

  1. all this bs midweek regarding mourinho and his comments, you handled like a gent. didnt bite the bait.
instead you helped us demolish chelsea in such a dominant way that there fans cant complain about us or refs.

    thank you boss 🙂

    1. Bellerin on his last ditch tackle on pedro: “it was at the end of the game, so I was a bit tired”

Hector really?? If you were tired at that time then I wonder what you could have done if you were not tired, wait for pedro for 20 seconds before he arrived??? Lolz

      The flash at its best.

  2. A friend Chelsea fan called me to say congrats…I replied thanks bro, it’s one of those days. He said………That was total football. Great sportsmanship. We oozed class today.. ..

    1. @Uzi Ozil
You said the magic words”Total Football”…Thats how AW sets up the team to play. All the players, with the exception of the new signings, should be well versed in this by now…

    2. That is a football fan.
Chelsea fans I know are unreasonable fanatics. They were too shocked with the result of the game.
One was saying ‘this rubbish Arsenal team beat Chelsea?’ Another was saying Chelsea have been playing badly since the arrival of Luiz.
They are mostly unreasonable people who see football and a win or crash affair. This is particularly in my country Nigeria though.

  3. 1. I will admit I was very skeptical about Wenger’s lineup. But I must give credit when it is due. Wenger had his squad ready to play this game.

    2. I thought Walcott was fantastic in this game. The quality of his play was way up and his work rate was off the charts. Nice to see.

    1. And how many of this page slammed him, I always said if he is given match time he will come good. He is now gonna earn his $140.000 and good on him. Nice to see him in England’s squad too . Shame a lot gave him some terrible remarks even on Arsenal fan to. Hang your heads

      1. @Luko Bratzi(sleeps wit da fishes)
In all fairness, The did bring it upon himself…Dude is just starting to come good, after being at the club for 10+ years and on 140k a week…

        1. Then it goes to prove at 16-17 playing in top class is to soon for the body to mature, hence all the injuries he had and Wiltshire too that stops him from reaching there form.
It still no excuse to slander them. We will see now how good he is and can be if given game time Oh and by the way did you see Sanches give the early ball with his right to Ozil to score, if on left side it wouldn’t have happend, stop turn get it on my right ,shit Iv lost it better run back. Walcott best on right can hit with both feet. CB

  4. Good win!
I never was expecting such an emphatic win. The believe in the team was great and they were up for it.
I hope Arsene and the Guys turn up for all our big games and we can be sure to do well this season.

  5. everyone played crazy well, the complete team performance from top to bottom! Finally our Chelsea troubles are over 😀
Next up Basel, let’s keep the winning streak going.

  6. Things I loved about today. Coquelin played well but when xhaka came on wow, his positional play and awareness for long early balls! 2 bellerins tackle. 3 walcott and ozil tracking back and tackling. 4 our cbs out muscling Costa. 5 Costa clearly respecting the cbs, a tap on the head for mustafi at half time. 6. Ozil consoling a down beat Costa at 45 mins in the tunnel. Epic 🙂

  7. Oh forgot to say walcotts hunger and iwobis interplay 🙂 got to say though how off it did giroud look when he came into the game! Can’t wait to see more of lucas perez 🙂
