Wenger is happy with “absolutely fantastic” Arsenal away form

At least someone is happy! by DN

Arsenal fans may not be happy that the Gunners have dropped five points in two games at home, but as usual Wenger likes to focus on the positives, like getting six points out of six on the road!

A battling win at Crystal Palace was followed by a very nervy win at Newcastle against ten-men, and that was only thanks to a freak own goal. But, as I said, Wenger is happy: “It was a bit of a strange game where we needed different qualities to win,” the manager said. “We needed to keep our nerves, not to overreact, to be patient, intelligent and mature.

“We showed interesting qualities and it is three points. You know at the start of the season that you go to Crystal Palace, you go to Newcastle United and if you come out with six points then that is absolutely fantastic. Overall I’m happy.

“I felt that we were very good defensively and overall I’m absolutely happy with what we did. We won the ball without going into too many tackles. That’s always a sign of intelligence and I’m very happy about that.”

It may be proven during the season that trips by other clubs to Selhurst Park or St James Park may find it just as difficult to win the points, but another fact is that teams that have watched our home games against West Ham and Liverpool are not going to be very scared of coming to the Emirates!

  1. Manchester United will pay €80m for Anthony Martial (€60m plus €20m bonuses), €80 million for Martial is absolutely insane. Incredible, astonishing, absurd, surreal, crazy

Spanish media are linking us with yarmalenko

    1. Hard to believe but yes, I want Manure to splash this money on Martial. The more, the merrier. Manure lacks a game maker midfielder, a keeper if they sell De Gea and a no nonsense CB. Yet they splash (allegedly) this kind of money on a 19 yrs old. Not sure who’s deluded here. Or desperate.

        1. im actually nervous now.
          times run out
please wenger im on the venetian marble floor of my french riviera apartment begging…WENGER IM BEGGING YOU – do something .

bloody hell 36 miliion for anthony martial?!
wheres thomas muller an gareth bale van gaal?
bet u wish u didnt mug off pedro lol

          1. Here’s something that might calm your nerves a little, Wenger has never not signed an outfield player during the summer window.

            1. well heres something that might calm YOUR nerves…

              absinthe is 74% alcohol

              i cant feel my face

              1. Muff i had Absinthe the hallucinogenic drink once recently and hallucinate that we won the EPL and i was on the open top bus in islington with Pellegrini

      1. will you say the same thing about arsenal if they decide to trigger the buy out clause (as has been reported in the media)?

I would rather prefer we don’t buy. For me Aubameyang or nothing and it now looks more like “nothing”.

Don’t understand why wenger thinks that any good team will sell their top players at the last minute?

cant wrap my head around this. It’s pure hogwash!

        1. u mean dortmunds main striker is gonna be sold to arsenal.
          since they loaned immobile.
an he currently scoring goals for them

          NOT A HOPE.
u can forget aubemeyang..he goes in the reus box of never never land

      2. I don’t think they are going to sell De Gea because Sky Sport just said that Man Utd is letting go Anders Lindegaard their third choice keeper.

    2. Orneistain on twitter have stated that arsenal are in advanced talks to sivn 60€ cavani . I dont know nothing about this man , thoughts ??

  2. It hurts me to see how Chelsea and Man city sign players they want/need.
Man city wanted sterling whom Liverpool made it clear that even if he doesn’t want to sign a new contract with them he won’t be sold. But man city mounted presure on them with 49m and the sold him.
No need to say much about chelsea but the claim to need a defender and made a bid to sign John stones from Everton and they rejected, chelsea made a second bid and they still rejected and chelsea are still baggering them to sell. But Our Beloved Arsenal wanted Suarez whom his agent stated clearly that he wants to move last 2seasons and we made the first bid and Liverpool rejected it and we completely backed-off!, we went for clement grenier of Lyon whom Mr wenger stated would be Nasri’s replacement but they rejected our bid and we Ran! We also went for Julian dexler of shark04 and they refused to sell and we were like Ok if you don’t wanna sell, we Go!
    Why? Why? Why??????????????????????????????????

    1. 1. Arsenal bids are not usually made public. Wenger has a strict “hush” about his bids. When we hear of bids, it’s usually the other club who are making the noise and that isn’t always reliable. Bids are NOT public, the clubs decide if they are public. Many of the bids you say we made may never have happened, OR bigger bids went in to the same result and Arsenal told the other club to shut their mouths out of respect.

      2. Arsenal do not have the business model of Chelsea or City. 10m over the value of a player to Arsenal is worth WAY more than 10m over the value to Chelsea or City. Stones is not worth the money Chelsea are offering, Sterling wasn’t worth the money City offered. They got the man cos they completely burst the bank. Arsenal can’t do that. Any money we spend won’t be offset by a billionaire so we have to be more balanced with how we spend it.

      3. Don’t mention Suarez. It was clear as day that there was a release clause – it has been admitted. Liverpool breached contract and Suarez did not pursue the matter and chose to stay. Arsenal could not have bought Suarez.

      1. true. still does not absolve wenger of his responsibilities. he knew all along that we needed a striker. Why cant he overpay for once? we are desperate for a striker and a cdm. at least for once he can overpay and see what happens.

Looks like he sits on his bum and hopes something falls in his kitty. We should officially retreat from the transfer window. It will at least set the expectations for fans like us.

secondly forget transfers; what has become of the academy talent and the current crop? ramsey and wilshere have probably moved backwards. Ditto for gibbs. Theo and Ox are still “talents”..lesser teams have more talent coming across every year. Something is seriously wrong. We need to dip into the transfer market- not for players but for a coach.

Every year it is the same old story; same transfer window; same finishing the CL grp in 2nd place; same getting thrashed in last 16. and then limbering to 4th. And this year it is going to be no different.

  3. Guys…… Take a Look at this transfer merry-go-round

    Di santo => schalke 0’4
    Draxler => wolfsburg
    Perisic => Intermilan
    Icardi => ???????????

Hope y’all ain’t thinking Arsenal…..not even sure he’d be moving…. Only trying to stir up ur minds…..ENJOY THE PANIC….. LoooooooL

        1. lol @ leo still having the nerve to link us to reus..on the last day of the window we will get marco reus ahead of madrid an barca.

          leo chill out bro

    1. Icardi hates England apparently, I would not really count on him. Well, at least he will not go in Manchester or Liverpool unless they break the bank for him.

  4. I think there is only one striker that we can persuade to come to Arsenal and that is Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli and even then he has to put in for a transfer request

    1. Didn’t we already sign Higuain last summer?……….he was all over the News…….was even spotted arriving at Heathrow airport! ENJOY THE PANIC LooooooooooooL

        1. I am not sure I have seen him starting on the right but transfermarkt gives him as forward and a LW. He’s left footed as well so his best position is left as a winger. If he’s used as a forward then you probably have to switch him to the right so that he can shoot at least. But again, maybe I have seen only one game and you have seen more with him. So probably you may be right, I don’t argue.

          1. I’ve seen him many times come from the right, so he can cut middle to use is left foot. Then again nowadays a lot of the wingers are comfortable on both wings. Either you cross from the same side your preferred foot is or you cut middle to shoot with your preferred foot (like Sanchez!).

I don’t know which in he then actually is BETTER at. He’s got major qualities to make him a striker as well (good dribbler, good shot, pacy, height/heading, size..)

  5. Im confused. Is Wenger watching the same games as us. Me as a Gunner really thought this year we would start the season with a bang. Instead it was a banging start but in a negative way.

The newcastle game highlighted once again so many facts about our team.

First: Why do we play such slow passing soccer. Newcastle defense looked to at ease at the back. this has happened the whole start of the season so far. We pass the ball to the wing but then no cross. Just passes it back into traffic. This is worrying.

Second: We need a faster taller striker. Walcott has speed but no control and neds help with his finishing. Giroud controls and passes ball well but has no pace. Why cant we get a one striker that has both qualities. I will say it again…. Walcott best position is on the RW.

Third: the OX is good and takes on people but he dissapears to easily during a game. There are times when he dissapears for huge parts of a match. This is worrying. And not just this match. It is something he needs to work on. Also needs better crosses from him.

Fourth: Make earlier Changes dammit Wenger…

Fifth: Sub Ramsey. How is it that this guy never gets sub. He is not on form and one goal in the next match wont change that. Ramsey makes so many mistakes during a game but still Wenger Refuses to Sub him.

Sixth: Shoot from outside the box. Not all goals have to be tap ins. Just Shoot dammit. Stop looking for the final perfect pass. We want to win games not talk about how we almost won and almost scored the perfect goal.

Seventh: Gabriel and Kosielny look solid together…. Sorry Mert

Eigth: Francis Coquelin is going to have a long season and lets hope its injury free. How Wenger has not signed a back up is beyond us all.

Seventh: Money does not solve everything. Ask Man United. LOL

    1. 1. We don’t. We play patient football. Ever notice we move the ball arouund until we see an opening and then we increase the tempo and drive at a gap. This is true of when a team is defending deep – if they come out at us we play fast passing football and attack from deep. All 4 games this season have seen the opposition defend very deep and not attack us in numbers. Thus – the more patient approach.

      2. We need a WC striker. Well done. Everyone knows this. There isn’t one available. The best we could have got was Benteke or Martinez and we didn’t get them because we were attempting to get someone better. Oops.

      3. Ox is currently doing something weird. He is best when he stays wide – he isn’t doing that right now. Pretty sure Wenger has told him to cut inside a bit to allow Bellerin the overlap – he needs to stay wider to start and cut in ONLY when the overlap is about to happen. It’ll come, the fact is he so in and out of the team is not helping him.

      4. Wenger does not have to make subs at half time to be making the right calls. He has always made subs this season prior to the 70th minute and made the right subs too. I don’t really see the complaint here being justified at all – or do you want to end up with 10 men on the pitch in every game when someone gets injured or tired?

      5. Ramsey got MOTM against Newcastle. In the other games we were chasing the game and had no other attacking players to bring on. Why would you substitute an attacker for a defender in those situations? Nonsense. Argue that he shouldn’t start a RW but sub him for no reason? Nonsense.

      6. We do shoot from outside the box. Badly. That said we scored from such a shot against Newcastle, and Theo also got a good chance. It bugs the hell out of me when people cry “SHOOT!” when there is no option to shoot. It’s very easy as a defender to stand JUST in blocking range and tempt the opposition to take pot shots. All you have to do is read their intention and block it. When there are 10 men between you and the goal you still have to make space for the shot – you can’t just do it willy nilly. MANY of our players have been taking shots on sight this season, so this point is totally void.

      7. Agreed.

      8. He has Arteta. As far as “back-ups” go that isn’t all bad. You realise that Chelsea have only 3 CBs? You realise United have just 2 strikers? You realise City are probably the only team who have depth in every position? Signing a GREAT DM to go on the bench is virtually impossible. Signing a great DM to displace Coquelin possibly ruins one of the brightest sparks we have at Arsenal. I agree – sign ’em if you can get ’em but we DO have cover – it’s just not the bright shiny one you want.

      9. Money doesn’t solve everything, but we do need to add quality. We’re not up to City’s level and refusing to buy when you can buy means Wenger believes we are. If he fails to deliver, there is nobody but Wenger to blame. I hate saying that.

    2. Yeah I’m with you on our lack of long shot, sometimes it’s not even that long. Then after game we complain about the opponents not pushing up field instead staying compact, well a good way to make them think twice about compact is if we shoot from distance. I doubt we even practice this technique in training, I also doubt that our forwards excluding Alexis put enough time in practice shooting full stop. If it were me who had the privilege of football career I would put an extra one to two hours after every training session working on my weaknesses.

    3. First, second points you make are stifling our attacking options big time. Looks like we happy with one goal, after which the team is instructed to keep it’s defensive shape. And when the opposition equalise, we go back to attacking by which time parked buses make it tough for us to find a way through. We need a robust bulldozing striker, not one who has speed and does very little to fight for the ball, or one whose main job as instructed is to hold-up the ball for others to pass around aimlessly.
Agree with your fourth and fith point 100%. Wenger is over cautious and makes changes built on fear and not trusting subs who may have a better impact than Ramsey in offensive play.
Sixth point, yes long range efforts when attempted has produced many goals for a number of clubs. All we do is pass, pass, pass giving the opposition defenders plenty of time to re-organise
without them needing to even get the ball. The sideways and backward passing is driving me nuts, 727 in total against Newcastle and one own goal to show for all that possession!

  6. What if Cavani is smokescreen for Ibrahimovic, the way Hazard was smokescreen for Gervinho and Di Maria smokescreen for Ozil? Hmmm. #ConspiracyTheory

    1. @Twig………..Cavani as smokescreen for Ibrahimovic?…………. One step forward , three steps backwards!

      1. If Im being honest and we are looking to bring in a striker that can do similar to what Giroud does (hold up/links play/assists/& chip in with goals) rather than an all out goal scorer …well in my opinion Ibra is a step up from Giroud even at his age.

Some of the goals he can score with half yard of space are exceptional. We don’t really have many who can do this match winning trait – Ramsey Alexis are maybe our best two at it.

  7. @Budd………but we would go in for him(Icardi) cuz we are masters in bank breaking! LooooooooL

  8. we started the season badly because Sanchez is not up to scratch yet, his all over the place but i’m confidant that he will find his magic soon then the rest of the team will follow,

shame about the international break because arsenal always play best when we are playing every 3/4 days ( if no injuries ) long breaks makes us rusty in passing and passing is our game

  9. Manure signed Anthony martiaL?…….The tryna tear the League apart with martial art! LoooooooooooL

        1. There was one who could have atleast martial their goalpost…. But he has been court martialled.

        2. There was one who could have atleast martialed their goalpost…. But he has been court martialed.

  10. Stop dreaming of Benzema or Cavani or any other class striker that played for their club at the weekend,
Because It’s not going to happen.

If we do manage to sign anyone before the window slams shut … you can be sure that the fan’s will not be happy with it ?

    1. what?!
so we cant get reus, cavani, hummels, gotze an icardi in one day???

      well thats just un-american

      1. That Icardi fella, I think we should be well able to take him off their hands as they have no CL football. Im not sure if he’s any good though because I’ve never seen him play, but if we are interested we should double whatever Milan offer.

        1. same boat as u , havent watched him.

what i dont want arsene to do is an anthony martial-

          absolutely shocking decision

    2. Kokorin or Yarmolenko………….. Fans favourite……. Arsenal quality………. Marquee signing of the summer ……..ENJOY THE PANIC LooooooooooL

  11. Wenger is signing no one…..

this is not the first time and will not be the last…..

it has been this way for the last 10 years…

      1. Where have you been the last 10years???

Are you suprise that he do not sign anyone before window closes????

            1. Wenger has signed Top players two years in a row: Ozil and Alexis. So no reason why he should stop now

Actually, three years in a row because he already has signed a World Class Keeper.

I am confident Wenger will sign a Top striker/midfielder by Tuesday midnight

In fact, I believe it will be one of these players: Benzema, Cavani, Ibrahimovic, Lewandowski, Gotze, Reus, Greizmann, Lacazette, Aubmeyang, Neymar, Riyad Mahrez

              1. Benzema : Not for sale
                Cavani : Not for sale
                Ibrahimovic : Not for wages
                Lewandowski: Not for sale
Gotze: Confused whether not for sale
Reus: FFS for what he has signed new contract for?
                Griezmann : Never linked
Lacazette : I want to stay with Lyon
                Aubameyang : Same as Benzema
Neymar : I want to retire at Barcelona
Riyad Mahrez: I saw what you did there….

        1. Budd ur just a wengers love child, stop sucking his nuts n face the reality, how fkcn hard is to find a striker whos bettr than girud? U morrons akb ass lickers every year u deffend ur deluded boffun,12 years uve been sucking his nuts, wat did u get.im sick of it now

  12. He’s right to be chuffed with our away form, palace and st james are difficult places to play in. I’m sure our home form will get much better, hopefully when that happens we will still have our excellent away days. If it wasn’t for cities devastating form alongside that blank cheque book I think pundits would be saying Arsenal have every chance this year. We slipped goals against WHam the type that will rarely ever occur again, and we should of had a nicely taken goal from excellent assist when playing pool so I am not seeing the crisis that allot of other people seem to be claiming. The only prob really is the lack of goals ..but come on people this is the Arsenal we are talking about ..it won’t be long before some poor team feels the brunt of our frustrations.

    1. i like your world.

you remember who framed roger rabbit? remember toon town?
      i imagine u live there

      may i join u ying?

  13. It is more likey Wenger will be off to referee a charity match later today or tomorrow, than to buy a world class player in the next 28 hours or so.

Just go and get Sissoko from Newcastle and Lavezzi and call it a day for goodness sake. Against big physical teams away we can play with Paulista and Koscielny in CB and Coquelin in DMF and Sissoko as CMF box to box player. That is a powerful quad core.

      1. Icardi is “not for sale” : Whatever the owner’s name is

Wanayama is “not for sale” : Koeman

  14. @Tas…………..hahahaha………..pellegrini……then u saw that the on-cheering Arsenal fans had on em the Etihad sky blue jersey LoooooooooL

  15. Wenger will sign a Top player.
I feel it in my heart, mind and groin
    Also, Muzzi guarantees it.

Don’t worry believe, hope and have faith.

  16. While we have not played great football we have got a couple of good results. Palace are sitting pretty in second place right now and just beat Chelsea. 3 wins 1 defeat. We were the defeat. I’m not saying we shouldn’t beat palace, gods no, but I’m just trying to put into perspective that our away matches WERE good results. This has continued from our excellent away form of last season.

Away games play to us better. The other team is buoyed by home support to actually attack so there is a little additional space for us to play in. If we’d had our shooting boots on we could have walked through Palace and Newcastle…but we didn’t. The fact is though, we won both games in tough conditions so that’s good.

More worrying is our current home form which is all over the shop. Most teams come to the emirates and park the bus…so we need to find some way to steal their keys. Either our current team needs to up their quality drastically after the international break…or we need to sign some additional quality to give us that lift. I don’t see why both aren’t possible!

  17. tick tock tick tock “attention passenger windows transfer will be shuts immediately please brace yourself, carefull on your blood pressure and heart rate) hahaha

    out of topic
damn i miss seeing some beautifull classy striker like Gabriel Batistuta, roberto baggio, gascoigne, sheringham …. football back then in 2000 is very damn good where all teams equal, nowadays the rich one owns the club and buying the league like man city does, hope they didnt win the league!!!

hope the one that arsenal sign is someone who will remembered as legend like what
    thierry “14” henry does

COYG COYG AFC ARSENAL4EVER DAMN!!! my heart can stop beating fast
    whatever happened after windows close

    I still being 100000% gooner

    1. Hafiz didnt you read Benz twitter?
He obviously didnt want to join us man.
And if he came out and said that it was mainly becasue we had bid for him.

  18. Years ago, not too long, it was after Henry, us fans used to complain because all the beautiful football we played didnt translate into results…the actual much needed 3 points.

We even pointed at ManUre for Arsene to copy them…they played horribly but got the results.

I wanted those 3 points as well.

Fast forward the beginning of this season and everybpdy is crying because it wasnt pretty…well to all whiners, an own goal doesnt just happen, it has to be from pressure from opponents (any of the whiners complained about Kos record of own goals somee years ago…I defended him because it was pressure from opponents that made him made mistakes…well, its our case now, and I wont complain if we push to had to we get our opponents into making mistakes and give us the 3 points…ugly? yes.

  19. Not because am a GHanaian but I believe we should hv sign Ayew.

The guy is a winner and a fighter.he is the Sanchez type.

    Well done Swansea .

that is good scouting. not when people work day n night but can’t even see the goodness in Bacca , Martinez, kondogbia or lewandosky if possible.

  20. Thumbs up for breaking the bank for Gonzalo Higuain…

Atleast he is AVAILABLE …. sadly for 67.3m
