Wenger let non-playing Coquelin leave – so Walcott should be next?

Arsenal have very few Cup games left to rotate in except the Europa League, and our tie against Ostersunds will probably see the end of that run, so it would appear that Arsenal has little need of most of our second team for the rest of this season.

Francis Coquelin didn’t even get to play in our awful FA Cup display as he was in negotiations with Valencia, but Theo Walcott did play, and was slated for his performance by the Arsenal fans. He wasn’t even used off the bench against Chelsea and he is unlikely to get any first team games, even with everyone injured, so surely he should be moving to a club where he can start playing regularly again.

Our club legend Martin Keown certainly thinks so. He told the Daily Mail: “Theo is 28 years old now. Personally, if I wasn’t playing in the Arsenal team and I was his age, I would be going. Your love of playing football has to be greater than anything else. When you’re playing football, everything clicks into gear in the rest of your life. If you have a family and the one thing missing is playing every week then you’re not complete.

“I’d be going through tremendous turmoil if I was him because if I can’t play, then there is no point in being at Arsenal. Wenger is quietly telling Walcott he no longer needs him by having not started him in a single Premier League game this season. Wenger can say what he wants publicly but he’s telling him what he really thinks every week.”

I think that Walcott has finally realised his career with Arsenal is definitely over, so I am pretty sure that he will be moving to Everton or Southampton very soon. Do you think he is right to move on now?

  1. Walcott should leave. Not because he’s not good enough for Arsenal (he is, he’s one of the highest goal scoring wingers in EPL history despite all the haters), but because I’ll really like to see him play at the world cup.

    1. JUST IN:After Man Ciry had agreed Sanchez’s fee with Arsenal and personal terms with Sanchez he has now told them that he’s ok to sign for them in the summer. This means Man City have pulled out of the current deal as he’ll sign for them in the summer.
He will earn £17.5m a year. That makes him the highest paid player doesn’t it?

As for Walcott don’t worry at all. He’s already close to joining Everton. They overtook Southampton for him.

      1. People should also keep calm about Sanchez to UTD.We’re only allowing him to join them this month if Martial is included in the deal.

On Malcom, the current state of Arsenal is what is slowing this deal done.He should’ve already been in the bag. He’s a Minslintat idea not a Wenger one.
As ypu can see many media aources are saying this is likely to be Wenger’s final season as I said days ago.I can tell you 100% that he’ll be leaving.

        1. Bruv – your like santa clause. You work 3 weeks a year and never deliver on your promises.

      2. Again late with your “news”.

I heard the Sanchez story over an hour before your post.

Just give up, know one believes you have insider information.

        1. Just trying to provide clarity and not trying to impress anyone. The guy has already agreed terms and fee has already been agreed. He’s now told them he’ll stay and sign for free and will earn £17m which is more than what he’d have earned if he went now.I’ve barely heard of other sources reporting this info. What most papers and sites are reporting is ”Sanchez close to joining City”.I don’t follow other sources. This is completely ahead of time. You can insult me or say anything but about me but at least give me some respect.

          1. @ kev
It was you who said this morning:
“JUST IN:Man City have now finally met Arsenal’s asking price of £35m for Alexis Sanchez. He had already agreed terms of £250,000 a week with them but both clubs were struggling to agree a fee.But now the issue has been resolved and he’s free to complete and finalise his move.He is scheduled to have a medical next week.”
You say lots but most is wrong which takes some doing statistically. I can’t make up my mind if you are a complete fantasist or you are being had by somebody who works in the Arsenal Shop who is having you on.

      3. I never believed Alexis will leave, City does not have a place for him to pay so much and keep on bench, Arsenal needs him more, and he has a relaxed no-World Cup 6-months to spend. But ManU can pay the same salary, and I was hoping Alexis agrees for them, where he will get to play more. Last July when Alexis talked and agreed to City, Sane and Raheem did not have hit form, now he is obsolete or a back-up for them

  2. If i were making the dosh Walcott is making, i’d be happy to warm the bench. He won’t go unless he is desperate to play for England. Dumb move to put his wages over £100,000 per week without showing he deserves it. He must be one of the PL’s highest paid bench warmers..innit

Before the season started i was hoping to watch Walcott on the right, Alexis on the left, Ozil in the middle and Lacazette up front. But we decided to stick with 5 defenders including three 3 CB. So Walcott hasn’t started

I’m not saying he didn’t have one or 2 good seasons but he is 28 and his salary will be better put to use for a top player, not someone who hardly starts.

  3. I think it was a bad move by Wenger letting Coq go for a miserly £12 million at today’s inflated prices but getting back to Alexis the good news that’s happening now is he’s creating a bidding war which I hope will push Lex’s price up

  4. Walcott isn’t going anywhere, Wenger will not rid of Sanchez and Walcott for 2 reasons. Walcotthas proven he can score goals at this level, no striker or winger that Wenger brings in has proven they can at this physical level. Need proof? Lacazette Currently has scored less than Walcott at this same time last season. Walcott isn’t allotted the same time and mistakes as he is and he also cost less than Laca. Anyway Lemar, etc isn’t a guaranteed replacement. Oziil, Welbz, Giroud, Wilshere, Ramsey all have contracts up this summer and unless They find a way to keep 4 out of the 6 this includes Sanchez, Walcott has a future and might have to once again stop the flow of sinking starts

    1. This year isn’t 2019 is it? I know we had new years recently but have I missed a whole year 😛

Ramsey is in 2019, not 2018.
      Welbeck is 2019.
Same for Giroud, he signed for 2.5 years in Jan 2017.

Ozil and Wilshere is end of this season, along with Alexis and Cazorla. Cazorla has a 12 month extension thingy in his contract according to transfer market website and other sites confirm he signed a 1 year extension with an option for another year in Jan 2017.

      Now for the Theo part.
Theo played 28 games last season and a total of 1923 mins in the EPL.
He scored 0.47 goals per 90 mins.
He assisted 0.09 goals per 90 mins.

Lacazette this year has played 22 games and a total of 1519 mins.
He has scored 0.47 goals per 90 mins.
He has assisted 0.18 goals per 90 mins.

Theo had one of his best 2 seasons with AFC last season, Lacazette has been dragged off at 60 mins (ish) too often and it is still his 1st season in the EPL.

Please do not try and say Theo is just as good as Lacazette, he has never proven it, his best year is so far on par with Lacazettes 1st year in a new league for goalscoring while being subbed badly.

  5. Alexis – leaving
    Walcott – leaving
    Giroud – injured
Welbeck – real athlete but no scorer
    Akpom – not worth mentioning
That leaves us only with Lacazette. Who are we going to play up front? Recall Lucas and Asano?

    1. I would prefer to see young Eddie Nketiah get game time instead of Perez, Akpom or Asano.
TBH I would prefer to see him in CF over Welbroke.

I do not understand why we do not give the young lad more of a chance with injuries to CFs, he may flop like Akpom but he has been impressive so far and he has found the back of the net…

IMO Welbeck is another player that we should be looking to sell NOW, he runs out of contract in 18 months time, in 6 months time then teams will be looking at him and saying to themselves “only 12 months left! maybe we can get him cheaper”.

  6. The rich fatman usmanov is the only one who can take us back where Arsenal belongs

Everything what happens till then is just a wating game and not of great importance, so do not worry your selfs with the current happenings in the club

Wenger is old and about to destroy himself, if not already did
And without Wenger the board will not have their shining knight who shields them against the evil fans who have to much ambition, lol

Relax and focus on other things and let us wait

    1. Hold on. Even a new mmanager could change things. Wenger spent money on

      Xhaka
      Mustafi
      Chambers
      Perez
      Debuchy

Thats over 100 millions. Any other adept manager could’ve spent that money more wisely.

And don’t forget, a new manager could lift even this team to another level. Chelsea under Mourinho vs. Conte was a great example.

      1. I doubt that a manager is going to be succesfull knowing that he has to build the team from scratch, dont get me wrong, it will be better with a new manager but the financial backing must be up to the point where we will be forced to spend a lot due of us losing the privilege of being a big club and i cant see this happening, it will take at least 5 years to rebuild as we have no fondation whatsoever in the team

Ancelotti is not known to build teams, and i dont know which other manager we are after besides him can handle something as problematic as Arsenal

        1. Sven and new director of football operations were brought in for that exact purpose. They hopefully key figures in rebuilding not Wenger.
Didn’t seem like much dithering with new Greek boy did it? His £2 million deal happened lot faster than Holden £2 million deal.

      2. Wenger spent money on Perez?
Is that why Wenger was chasing Lacazette and he somehow ended up with a 1 season wonder as a panic buy?
Wenger shown him how much faith?

We have read about the new CB signing is a Sven signing, if Wenger has all the power then how did Sven make that signing? It isn’t like Sven is the new head of football relations that Sanllehi will be…

You can moan about Mustafi but the truth is Mustafi hasn’t had a regular CB partner other than Kos who is in and out of the team, he and Kos formed a formidable partnership when the CM wasn’t lacking a Cazorla who could transition the ball from def to attack better than ElNeny/Ramsey and Coquelin combined. Our invincible team had Vieira who could move the ball from def to attack from the middle while Gilberto was a DM.

I actually blame Wenger for misusing Xhaka over singing him, he isn’t a DM and his worst performances for us has been with him playing as a DM. He done well before coming to us and the one thing I recall reading from their fans was how he had a DM alongside him.

Chambers is a quality prospect, he done well in the last game and lets not forget he has come out from the cold, Wenger threw him out on loan after he got his pick Holding.

So I do think Chambers was a Gazidis buy, along with Welbroke, Gazidis went on a spending spree for him. I wasn’t keen on Chambers signing when we got him but he has since won me over, he isn’t perfect but he has shown himself to have a LOT of potential and maybe a new manager is needed to get that out of him? Welbroke though… still kinda p*ssed at AFC signing him when Wenger only wanted him on loan, how long has be spent in the treatment room since signing for us?

The CEO should have ensured that any purchase would have been used by the manager otherwise they should have saved the cash and got a better quality player in the next window.

        1. Wenger ways being replaced by Sven. Thats why Wenger made insulting statement toward Sven about new Greek CB remember? How Arsenal already knew all players in Europe already, and how Arsenal may have overlooked small German clubs.
Or how Wenger took sly dig about director of football, what do they do, blah blah blah.
Ivan replacing Wengers dictatorial power on many levels. Scouting, contracts, etc…

I’m no fan of Ivan, but damn son give him credit when he does well!
We have top scout Sven thanks to him not Wenger. One of best deal makers also from him not Wenger. Two top top shelf captures.
Ivan could cure cancer and you’d slate him for aids. I say well done for Sven and Raul, more please

          1. I’m aware he came from small Greek club not small German club; i was merely paraphrasing Wenger statement. Glad to see Wenger open minded and keeping him here though. Credit to Arsene for considering new boy could actually help us now.
            Credit where credit is due.
