Wenger not worried by Arsenal striker’s barren spell

Alexandre Lacazette is struggling for form in recent weeks, but Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is not worried about his record signing.

The Frenchman arrived from Lyon in a club record £52 Million move in the summer, and started the season well.

Lacazette has clocked up eight Premier League goals in his 22 appearances thus far, but hasn’t scored since taking on Manchester United back on December 2.

The French striker has been used sparingly, being substituted off the pitch in almost every outing since joining, but that is no excuse when considering the amount of match minuntes he has clocked up since finding the back of the net.

Wenger insists that despite his barren run, the manager is not worried and he is aware that the player will be frustrated by his lack of form.

“[The lack of goals] certainly affects him [Lacazette] a little bit, but I am not worried,” Wenger said. “He was diminished a bit physically on Wednesday night against Chelsea because he was not at his best before the game, but he was very isolated as well.

“It was a difficult game for a striker because he did defend a lot, but overall I don’t worry that he will come back and it’s in cycles. At the moment he’s going through a cycle that is a bit more frustrating for him.”

Who can help the 25 year-old find his goalscoring boots? Should Wenger be worried about his striker’s struggles?

      1. The way you guys lay into Iwobi, one would think you’re rival fans. The boy is an Arsenal wonder kid, emphasis on “kid”
By the way, the nation’s cup now holds in the summer.
Try getting your facts right before mouthing off about someone else.

  1. Get rid of Sanchez bring back Perez and get Mahrez thats the three behind Lacazette sorted with Ozil being the other.

  2. Wenger is doing his usual all talk no action do not be surprised if after selling a few players he does not bring anyone in except the Greek Boy for just under 2 M.

  3. Wenger thinks we are doing well, that all the players are happy under him that we are competing for the title. Look at him laugh through his press conferences. He has lost the plot so of course he is not going to worry about Lacazette’s poor form. I bet he is not helping on the training pitch.

  4. Lava is quality but needs proper service from a team with tactics to get the best out of him.It would also help if he played the full 90 minutes EVERY game.

    1. Exactly Phil; Lacazette should play the full game to build his confidence and take advantage of opportunities which may arise as defenses tire. Also Lacazette has been making intelligent runs in recent games and without Ozil and Wilshere there has not been Arsenal players competent to read his play and find him with a pass. Arsenal’s build up has been slow allowing defenses to crowd Lacazette.

  5. It’s the usual thing so AW is not worried. There are many before Lacazette.

Anyway, it’s obviously we aren’t challenging for anything significant this season AGAIN.

  6. Pass to middle, pass to side, pass to back, pass again to middle, pass to side, back again to back, to middle, side, back, middle, side, back, middle, side……..
Laca just standing in front of goal, waiting the ball is pass to him, who rarely came to him.

  7. Wenger broke Laca’s confidence. Laca started off well. then was inexplicably benched for our first big game against Liverpool and has been subbed around the 70 minute for most games and benched for the majority of the big games. Not the way to build confidence in a striker.

Most new players go backward under Wenger. Mustafi started great and turned south, Kos started great and ended up on the bench as well. Wenger takes players backward and no longer has the ability to develop young players. Even Bellerin has not got any better over the last year and at his age, he should still be improving. Iwobi is talented and has potential but also has been halted in his development.

Wenger is utterly useless when it comes to managing his squad. Last year he allowed his contract issue to overshadow and ruin the season, this year he allowed two players that didn’t want to sign a new contract and be part of our future and their performances and efforts to be the main talking point of the season. He is clueless.
