Wenger praises Steve Bruce ahead of Cup clash

Steve Bruce was a great player at Manchester United and had some success as a manager as well, most notably when his Hull City side gave Arsenal a big fright in the FA Cup Final a couple of years ago. We beat them again in the Cup last season and today we are aiming for a quick-fire hat-trick of wins against Hull in this competition.

He has won promotion to the Premier League with Birmingham and Hull, and as his team are currently on top of the Championship he is likely to repeat that feat this season, and Arsene Wenger has nothing but respect for the guy. “He is a fantastic football man who has great consistency as a player and manager,” Le Prof said on Arsenal.com. “He has been in the game for a long, long time but he is not so much in the media talk, he is in football. I like that, real football people.

“I think he will be [managing in the Premier League] again next season. He did many times in his career. I don’t think there’s a big difference between the quality of a Championship manager and Premier League manager. For me there is no difference.”

In fact many people would say it is even more gruelling in the Championship, with everyone fighting hard to win a place in the Premier League, and Bruce certainly seems suited to the job, although he has also pulled out some brilliant performances from his teams in the top tier as well.

The players obviously like playing for him, and whoever takes the field against Arsenal today will be playing their hearts out for their manager. Hopefully though it won’t be a good day for Brucie!
