Wenger predicts high-scoring derby against Tottenham

Arsenal travel to White Hart Lane tomorrow for a North London derby that is extremely crucial for both parties, with Tottenham trying to keep pace with the League Leaders Chelsea, while the Gunners are desperately trying to claw their way back into the Top Four.

Arsenal have a great historical record against Tottenham and in fact have only lost once in our last 9 meetings, and Arsene Wenger has only lost 7 of his 49 previous games against the Spuds, so Le Prof is quietly confident we can get a result at the Lane. One thing he is sure of, and that is that it will not end up as a 0-0 draw! “It is a quick pitch at White Hart Lane – and it is not massive as well.” Wenger said. “So overall the memories you have is always of games with frenetic pace, frenetic commitment, frenetic support for them.

“You always have other references going out there. On the right our supporters will be there, so our focus is there, our support is there, so I must say that’s what is in my mind – our support and the pace and commitment of the game.

“Usually [they are high-scoring games] because it’s two teams who try to play. I must say, Tottenham try to play, to go forward. We try to play, to go forward. Usually that is always finishing with goals on both sides.”

Spurs have Harry Kane and Dele Alli, Arsenal have Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud, and all four rarely go long withouut scoring. This could prove to be an exciting and high scoring affair, and I for one just can’t wait!

  1. And when its a high scoring affair, we most times end up on the losing side…I HOPE we don’t lose tomorrow

  2. Skysports also reporting that we want Turan…could this be true???
Of what use will Turan be to us???

    1. Maybe as Ozil’s replacement. I just hope Arsenal will not be interested in Andre Gomes. He is like Arsenal’s players. He doesn’t really help in defending, lacks of workrate, very rarely create forward through passes and doesn’t have enough ball control skill to hold the ball for more than two touches. A passenger in Barcelona’s team, just like Ozil in Arsenal. Turan is a good replacement for Ozil, as long as he is available at a cheap price.

      1. Cheap ain’t a thing man if he is already old.. why can’t we find a better replacement at the age of around 24 or 25. We always get the scrapers like Sylvester from Man U, I hated every time he was on the team sheet

  3. Yup, I can’t wait for this match. It’s going to be exciting since both teams are highly motivated and Arsenal’s defense looks more solid because of the new 3-4-2-1 formation. I’m just worried of Arsenal’s ball possession though, because Ozil, Ramsey and Xhaka usually cannot hold the ball for more than two touches.

Tottenham will apply high pressure, so I hope Arsenal players will play as a team and have enough energy to keep up with Tottenham’s young players. It’s okay if we don’t get good result, because the title is already out of hands, but I just want to see the old energetic Arsenal in the derby match. COYG!

  4. If we start as we always do then my gut feeling we will be 2 or 3 nil down by half time. fitness wise they are better right now so the high pressing is to as fixate the opposition and this is why i would prefer having a 4231 than 352 as their wing backs will be right in the RB and LB so our wingers have to be the ones pressing high and i know wenger goes with OG instead of Wellbeck whose work rate would be ideal for this game. We can not sit back and wait for them as the pressure creates mistakes and If we make mistakes they will pounce. I would gamble with pace upfront Alexis – Ox and Wellbeck then ozil and Xhaka – Elneny but for sure Mr Ramsey will be instead. Anyway If we turn up from the way go it can be a good game If we do not..WE CAN BE EASILY HUMILLATED.

  5. Spuds have Kane & Alli And Arsenal have Sanchez and ?? Giroud, all four rarely go long without scoring. ? ? No-No… 15 games isn’t long at all, it’s just shy of half a season lol ?

  6. High score with Spud scoring 5 goals to Arsenal 1

Their British core is way better than ours……

Kane, Ali, Son, Walker, Dier….etc….all world class

    1. The last time the spuds beat us 5-1 was back in 2008.
But the last 3 meetings have finished in draws.

  7. I think Spurs have a better defense than us: Lloris, Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Walker, Davies, Wanyama (DM)

Actually attack isn’t bad either lol: Dembele (box 2 box) , Ericksen, Son, Alli, Kane

I definitely see Spurs scoring goals

We need to defend like we have never defended before
Ozil needs to be at his best
Alexis needs to play up front

    1. Lloris, Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Walker, Davies, Wanyama, Dembele , Ericksen are tall

if Sanchez is to play as forward we will never score a goal…

We need a tall forward upfront…

We need Welbeck upfront….he has the height

      1. Don’t worry about height, Messi has no problems with it ? and according to Pep, Sanchez isn’t far behind Messi’s quality ? or was that statement just a bum lick extravaganza to get him to come to City? … Maybe ?

  8. Without being biased, we’ll be very lucky to get a draw (in the last ever NLD to be played in their ?hole) And if Wenger is expecting a high scoring game Then that’s bad news, when you consider where our goals are going to come from? ? ? Add that to the Spuds mean defensive record this season, them and Chelsea have conceded the fewest goals in the league.

    Conclusion:
The Spuds are at home and are fighting for the Premier league crown, whereas we have Wenger, fighting for his Arsenal life and his beloved Wenger trophy.
?? The form Book suggests that we are in for a rough ride and a heavy defeat.
?? But at the same time,Wenger’s magic for winning invisible trophies puts us in with a shout. ??
The lineups on matchday, will give us a better clue.
