Wenger set to extend Arsenal contract and snub England?

I guess that the future of Arsene Wenger as the manager of Arsenal could depend on what happens with the Gunners on the pitch over the course of the current season, although I am not sure if winning the Premier League title or another big trophy would make him more or less likely to stay.

On the one hand he could see that as the perfect time to leave with his legacy intact and on the other he could feel that the club was entering a new era of success and that he was the man to lead it. In the same way, another season without major honours could inspire him to quit or carry on.

The problem is that nobody but the boss himself really knows, although some might have a better idea than others and one who knows the Frenchman pretty well from his time playing for him and by keeping close ties with the club since is Martin Keown and the former England defender thinks that Wenger could be set for many more years in charge.

In a Daily Mail report Keown spoke about his former manager with all the 20th anniversary talk going on and he seems to think that Arsene might even have his eye on beating the 26 years that his old rival Sir Alex Ferguson had at Man United. And amid the talk of Wenger taking over the England job, Keown suggested that his love of the daily stuff that makes up club football could be something that he would miss if he was to be a national boss.

The former Gunner said, ‘He probably looks at Sir Alex Ferguson’s 26 years at Manchester United and thinks he might beat that. Ferguson managed in 810 Premier League games and Wenger is on 758, so he could beat that.

‘Football every day is his life. He is in the middle of a fight and he will fight for another 10 years if he can.’

Do you think Wenger will stay on after the current season?

  1. I bloody hope not – Wenger out!! Of course I love the fact that we’re looking like title contenders but if it weren’t for us kicking and screaming about transfers he’d probably not have spent a penny this window or last. Enough is enough.

As if you, or any other fan has the slightest influence what so ever on AW’s decisions…LOL!!!!

  2. People are resistant to change. One reason why this is so is because most time we wonder what will happen if I do this or that differently. Sir Wenger took charge of Arsenal when I was only 4 years old, obviously the only Arsenal manager I’ve seen. TH14 and the way Arsenal played football (tiki-taka) made me fall for this club.

I don’t know how to react to seeing another manager at the sidelines neither do I know if that manager will stand by the club with financial restrictions, keep our reputation (attractive football) and continue doing well (never dropped out of top 4 and take us to the other level).

It’s always a risk and sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesn’t. I’d be happy if he is given at least 2 more years. #Wenger20

  3. couldn’t wait for another week to ask a wenger in/out question?
regardless of where you stand on his future this is a momentous occasion for both Wenger and the club.. I feel the Wenger in or out talk should at least be put on hold for a week and all fans celebrate his time at the club. Especially considering how we’re playing at the moment!

  4. How many times has Wenger said it? JUDGE ME AT THE END OF THE SEASON

We were top at Christmas last season remember, but everyone wanted Wenger sacked in May!

  5. I like Arsenal fans. On issue of Wenger, we change like weather.
Last season’s out placards have now been forgotten with the last 4 matches.
As if we are afraid of the unknown and also, 20 yrs have made us (including me) think that Arsenal and Wenger have blood relations that cannot be done away with.
Imagine Arsenal without wenger. Who is coming in? What of our tradition? Hmm confused.
