Wenger tells Hodgson he is wrong about Jack Wilshere

Much was made about Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere being used as a defensive midfielder for England’s two European Championship Qualifiers last week, but Arsene Wenger is adamant that Hodgson is definitely using him in the wrong position.

“Jack has more experience and he mixed well his long balls and kept his individual capacity to make a difference, that is what being a midfielder is about,” Wenger said.

“He is not a ball-winner. I believe he is more a guy who you want to get close to the final third, to keep him deep you take a big part of his efficiency away.

“Jack is a guy who likes to penetrate when there are many people, he can provoke free-kicks, he can create openings.

“A deeper role would be detrimental to his strengths and a position which is not his strength.”

So at least all Arsenal fans can stop expecting Wenger to copy Hodgson by playing him as a DM, and we can all go back to wishing that Wenger will buy a proper beast next summer to fit that role, unless of course he intends to bring in Sami Khedira in january and use the German in that position.

We all know that Flamini and Arteta are getting on and are not really “Arsenal class” in that position….

jack has the talent but lacks the consistency… like our whole motherf team!

i hope alot of pressure is put on wenger- if hes the elite he will use that to fight back, or he will flop and prove they were right to question him

the jack haters need to chill, theyre talking about him like it’s his fault we tied vs hull
he was reall good first half didnt hang on to the ball tried to find sanches lot
second half he wasnt great like the rest of the team
howw about we focus on the fact we had 70 possession and barley created real chance
we’re trying to score the prefect goal again just shoot and cross into the box things will happen
and second Hull had 2 chances they were both goals!!!
wth is that we’re way too fragile in the back
even tho the first one was complete BS
the wilshere haters need to stop tho
sometimes it seem’s he’s the only one on the field with heart and wants things to happen
      him and sanchez at least.

““He is not a ball-winner. I believe he is more a guy who you want to get close to the final third”
    Is Wenger having a laugh?
Jack’s contribution in the final third is to get dispossessed.
The TV commentators handbook for Jacks play goes: [Arsenal player] > [Arsenal player] > Wiltshire > [opposition player] opposition breaks, commentator says ‘and Wiltshire is still on the ground holding his ankle…’

Opinions divided. What do you think? Thumb up 24 Thumb down 12

    1. RSH

exactly. Wilshere is horrible going forward and cant shoot either. I’d rather turn him into a deep-lying player at this point because im so tired of seeing this guy charge forward just to get dispossessed and roll around on the ground. Commentators always saying “Arsenal fans always get worried when Wilshere is holding his ankle like that”. Uhh no we dont because it happens 5 times every half…

A test of how effective we are will be how many goals we score against Sunderland!
Any less than 4 and we will look like twats.
A draw and Wenger should go!

8 games played and we are 11 points behind, 13 behind in GD and if Manure win we will be 4 points behind them and they were meant to be in melt down!

Enough is enough, Wenger needs too go for the good of this club.

    Thoughts from yesterday.

    – Bellerin to me is better than Chambers at right back (I believe Chambers best position is at CB). He was brave, he tackled and he provoked. And he was as fast as was alleged!

    – We need to build the team around Sanchez. If Gibbs had converted that last chance he set up, only Aguero could have pipped him to player of the week. The lad is good, although he needs to be more careful with his passing in dangeorus areas..

    – I would like to see Welbeck’s shots/goal ratio. He’s turning into a very efficient striker. The goal was deceptively very difficult to score. That said, he needs to get into the box more…

    – The OX probably had one of his most forgettable days in an Arsenal shirt. The little I saw of Campbell yesterday confirms my belief that he’s the more mature player of the two. I would like to see him get the same opportunities that the OX gets, lets see what he can do..

On Arsenal.com some weeks back Ox said that Alexis is a role model for everyone, because he works so hard in training. So then why does OX show a lazy attitude when he is playing? He shouldn’t be in the squad in the next match, a good manager would’ve done that. even in the 3-0 win v Villa, we don’t remember Ox doing anything.

I think ox will come good but at the moment with Walcott back and Sanchez and Campbell their ox is in a similar situation to wilshire he is developing slower than expected. Sanchez is world class, Campbell is superior in his hold up play and through balls and he can do the running and dribbling like ox.walcott has end product. I feel that we have missed the chance to give the lad a lone were he would comback more competitive now he is at the age n skill were it would be signalling the wrong message to loan him.

Wilshire is a better Denison in turns of small passing cm.but he needs to simplify his game too many times he tries to drive forward or making a poor final pass.

He needs to remember the basics that the ball can move faster with a pass than he can dribble.

Wenger looked uneasy quite angry and I felt like he was thinking ‘who the hell are you and why are you asking me questions’ we’ll have a scenario soon where wenger refuses to talk to the bbc like fergie did. Yes Wenger is right,Wilshere is not a DM.But Hogdson see better his qualities than Wenger, his not a DM,agree, but is not a CAM neither,is obiosly he’s mediocre on that position.I think if we play the same sistem like Barcelona, that 4-1-2-2-1 or how do you want to say it with a defensive ball winner midfielder in front of defenders,Wilshere can play CM with a playmaker role like Xavi for Barcelona or Cesc when he was our player. On this post I think he can be the best midfielder in the BPL.

It’s so funny that before 1996 we had a very weak global fan base. We were miles off the likes of United and Liverpool in terms of revenues, fan base, trophies etc..

But enter Wenger and all of a sudden our fan base has grown from a few millions to something like 100 million. Most of the so called Gooners on here started supporting Arsenal because of Wengers introduction, he won us trophies and put us on a global stage, he became an Arsenal fan in 1996 before 90% these fans jumped on the glory wagon.

But all of a sudden they I keep hearing “Wenger get out of our club you French w@nk, you old git, you loser” blah blah..

Non of them would be Arsenal fans today had it not been for Wengers Arsenal, most jumped on the Arsenal gravy train as a result of wenger revolutionizing Arsenal.

But you just shake your head when you now hear them calling him names and telling him to get out of their so called club.

I am very frustrated with Wenger myself, he seems to have such a big Ego and a Don’t tell me what to do attitude.

I said after last season that This is the season he has to deliver, he has no excuses, he had the backing of the board, he had all summer to sign what he needed. So will give him until the end of the season.

But what is embarrassing are the so Glory Fans saying things like “Wenger get out of our club, old loser, French w@nk ” etc. They weren’t Arsenal fans before Wenger attracted them to support Arsenal.

I am far from being English, and the number one reason why Arsenal has become so popular amongst the world is bec of TV broadcast. English teams became somehow interesting to watch bec of the like of Dennis Berkamb or Thierry Henry, playin in the leauge. Without them there would be no Wenger and no Big Fan base. Having so many French player at that times helped also a lot due of the French national team being very succesfull during the world cup.

What do you mean with Glory fans? Every Fan in the world is driven with Glory. Its bec of this reason alone Fans became Arsenal fans in the first place.

The name calling is no biggy. Being sensetive about is whats trully loughable. According to your logic i should be obssesed with David Dain, bec without him there would be no Arsen Wenger, right? Lol

Not a lot of Spurs, Fulham, Stoke, Everton, Newcastle fans in Africa, SOuth America, China, Malaysia etc..

So the reason is that Wenger introduced the likes of Henry, Vieira, Bergkamp, Pires, Overmars, etc to Wenger football and they all became the new Arsenal. The old one with George Graham was labelled 1 nil to the Arsenal. Non of the current so called Arsenal fans even gave Arsenal a second look..

But then Old W@nker Wenger attracted you all to Arsenal..

The likes of Everton, Spurs, Chelsea, City etc were in the league but how come you chose to support Arsenal instead of them?

When Arsene arrived at Arsenal. Arsenal was equal to Manure and to the others. Quit a good team. 11 Epl titles, equal to Manure 11.

Spurs are nothing to us and never will. Everton are good but not quite jagielka, same with Newcastle.

He did no introduce them but the players intreduced Wenger. Bec back then it was all about the players.

You dont hear people saying i grew up becomin an Arsenal fan bec o Arsene, but you hear them say, i play football my self and i saw Thierry and fell in love with him so i became interested in Arsenal bec he plays there. If he would end up somewhere else many people would maybe be today supporting other teams.

Arsenal’s main fan base is from my generation 88. Up to it you wont find any fans bec like i said before. No tv, no internet.

Ah, so because Wenger has achieved many great things with Arsenal, we owe him allegiance no matter what? Because of his achievements 10-15 years ago, it has become HIS club to do what ever he wants? Good act doesn’t wash out the bad, nor a bad act the good. Good acts are mainly in the past but a lot of the bad ones are fresh.

Funny how you label many who want him out as ‘glory fans’ though the same lads have been around ie. in this forum for YEARS – during those times when we won squat, sold our best players to our rivals and got out of the title race before November. Yet these same fans are still here. Funny how I’ve been an Arsenal fan for 16 years and of that time we went 9 years without winning and I’m still here.

Why many fans, me included, often get wind up and emotions gets the best out of me I might come out in a vulgar way. But you should know it with your daily Özil bash, right? When I express I want Wenger out, I want him out but I understand it’s not possible in the middle of the season. And again unfortunately because of his status, it won’t be even possible next summer. We are stuck with him and his philosophies and inadept tactics for 3 more seasons.

He will lose Jack to Man City or Chelsea if we don’t win anything sooner. Why are we languishing on 11 points for a team supposedly made up of superstars? He’ll still rue the day when he ignored everyone’s advice and failed to sign a defensive MF but instead travelled out to referee a match for the Vatican. Notice the Diff between Wenger and Klopps run of loses.

Female reporter says: ,”Two wins out of eight matches in the Premier League this season. Who or what do you think is to blame for that?

Wenger: Why do you always want to blame people?” before adding: “I don’t understand the question.”

Addressing fans’ concerns, Oatley asks why the Gunners did not sign a defender or defensive midfielder in the transfer window.

Wenger:, You have been at the game today, I don’t know why you would come up with such a question when you’ve seen the game today,” says the Arsenal boss.

    Klopp.

We played a kind of football which is absolutely pointless,” said Klopp. “We’ve got to face the music again.”

“We misplaced many passes in the first half and made simple mistakes,”. “They can be explained in a host of ways, but still should not be happening.
“We just made it too easy for our opponents. We’ve got to eradicate these mistakes. We’ve got to resolve this and nobody’s going to help us.”

Can you spot the diff between these two?

We have to continue to exercise patient as I have said. I believe the boss is sort of building a new Arsenal team as his is playing his players in different positions to see if it will work out. Hoping it was not a one match show by Campbell, I am sure the boss has taken note of his performance in our home game to Hull. And also he must noticed the erratic showing of Oxlade in games, especially at left wing yesterday. Let us continue to support the boss and the Gunners in their quest to excel in their games. There is a “laissez faire” attitude and a patent “laziness” from Arsene Wenger.
I Like this young lady journalist said… Nobody questioned Wenger and nobody will, because they are all (all those motherf*ckers from the board and even those dumb ass*s shareholders) in it…
They are making a mockery of the fans and there is no “care” towards them.

Wilshere is not the problem, Wenger is.
A real manager will never put Wilshere in the first team, the “local” boy would not see a minute of first team play if we had a proper and competitive coach.

Mertesacker is basically “dead” on his feet and the retirement door has been opened long time ago… The only problem is that Wenger is holding the door… Same with Arteta… Those 2 players should be looking to play regular football for West Ham or QPR not Arsenal.

The fact is, it is fine because at the end there are no objectives (well may be trying to qualify for the CL again) and we are not a top club (except financially).

This is Wenger legacy, this is what he wants to be remembered for… He left the club in a healthy financial position (well and the 17 years in a row of CL… Not like we were going to win it, ever!!).
Other than that, there is nothing going, nothing…!

It is clearly unacceptable that a manager earning such a “ridiculous” and “overpaid” wage, is incapable and not even close to deliver trophies, major trophies on a regular basis… it is just scandalous and what is more shocking, you have “deluded” fans like him who will tell you that there is nothing better (as a manager) around…!!
I hope when he goes, he takes those “fools” with him.
Addicted to failure and minimum results…!!

I don’t think it’s fair that we as fans always blame wenger.
Why don’t we blame wenger for everything this season. Some may say he didn’t spend well but let’s consider these things. The only thing he failed on in my opinion is a def mid who can play cb

We wanted remy he gave us welbeck with more potential, work rate and link up.

The fans wanted Guizmann he delivered Sanchez

We wanted aurier who is 2nd choice at psg now we got debuchy who is infront of Sagna (unlucky with the injury)

We wanted a championship gk in Marshall he brought in the 2nd best keeper in the World Cup Ospina

The players we wanted at cb eg caulker has he been better than chambers ? And vermaelen still hasn’t started for barce in laliga due to injury so wouldn’t make a difference to our defense.
