Wenger worried about Brighton ending Arsenal’s 34 game winning streak

Arsenal have not been beaten by any newly-promoted sides for 34 games in a row, but they visit Brighton tomorrow who are on a great run themselves having gone six games unbeaten since they lost to Chelsea six weeks ago.

“The fact they play good football,” the Arsenal manager said. “They have a team who play quality [football] collectively. When they had a bad patch during the season, they stayed together and focused and made some surprising results.

“They have worked in a very intelligent way. They fought for many years in the Championship to come up, and a few times just missed that by a very little margin.

“They kept their philosophy, they continued to work in a rational way and, overall now that they’re up there, I believe that they will stay in the league this season and why not? They have the structure to stay for longer.”

Wenger is of the opinion that teams that come up from the Championship nowadays are a lot harder to beat than they used to be in the past. So it wuill not be so easy to keep this record for much longer.

“They are tougher, they have bigger squads [now],” he said. “The television money has given huge potential to these teams to compete on the European side, out of England they can compete and get the best players, apart from the top three or four, in every league.

“Every team who is in the second part of the Premier League table can buy the players everywhere, so when I go down sometimes to these teams, the best indication is who is sitting on the bench. You see that even in the teams in the second part of the table, you have six international players.”

I cannot help but wonder if Wenger is just praising Brighton because he truly admires them or if he is preparing an early excuse in case the gunners lose their fourth away game in a row. What do you think?

  1. Well Wenger considered Ostersund to be a Quality side lol and they beat us at home lol.
Wenger thinks all teams are top quality. Its a way of defending or justifying when we lose.
His definition of quality is a lot lower than others ie Iwobi, Mustafi, Xhaka, Welbeck must be world class to his eyes

  2. We are going to lose this game. Especially if we wear the blue kit. I’m sorry to say that even though I will be rooting for them and hoping, I just sense that this will go down as a loss and then you will really have the Wenger Out crowd even more vocal. Even those is us who want him to quit on his own terms to preserve his legacy will join in for calling for his ouster. (Me for example).

However let’s not lose heart. In the year before Chelse won the league they finished 11th only to turn it around. LC is another good example.

Lee faith and it will turn around. COYG.

  3. Oh this is classic Wenger, getting his ready made excuses in for the old repetitive post match interview! It’ll be let’s focus on the next game I believe our mental strength is unnatural judge me at the end of the season lol Wenger needs to forget about football and get himself l#id the man needs to realise there’s other things in life ? and who on here would like to see Wenger grow a mustache, a goatee, a hint of a stubble, a sleeve tattoo maybe a new hairdo ? The last samurai ? Hector bellerin could give him his hairdressers name ? if we can’t get rid of him then I vote for a complete makeover for next season and word on the street is that Steve Bould is already on it, hes been having consultations with Wayne Rooney’s hair surgeon, he’s been seen in Harley Street testing wigs out for his new hairdo I’m guessing we’ll see the hockey cut next season even Antonio Conte wears it well ?

  4. Arsenal Wenger don’t loose hope thus how people are they just want winning remember even that team you are playing with wants to win so let’s just focus for the remaining games. am asking for your Email address.

  5. The season is over and done with.
The worst thing that could happen is that we pick up form and he stays.
That would be a disaster for everyone.
I would not be too upset if we lost today – but then again I can see the bigger picture and realise that you sometimes need to go backwards or sideward to go forwards.
