West Ham wages making it hard for Arsenal to keep Giroud?

As well as making it clear that he would rather not spend most of his time sitting on the Arsenal bench next season, the France international star Olivier Giroud will be aware that he is about to be on the wrong side of 30 and may not have too many years left at the top of the game.

That is why I feel that money will still be a factor in his future. Even though a player may rather be playing and be playing in competitions like the Champions League or the Europa League, they also want to maximise their earnings so it is rare to see a modern footballer decide to take a pay cut if he does not have to.

Normally you would assume that this would give big clubs like Arsenal an advantage over the others even with all the TV money that you get in the English Premier League. According to a report in The Mirror, however, West Ham are very keen to sign the big centre forward this summer and are prepared to offer him a pay rise to join them, despite the fact that Giroud only recently signed a new Arsenal contract worth £120,000 a week.

That new deal does give Arsene Wenger and the Gunners a lot of power to hold on to the striker if we so desire but you cannot get around the fact that it is not good to keep a player against their wishes and this big wage offer from across London could just turn Giroud’s head.

  1. More than the 10K extra on salary, the real issue for Giroud is guaranteed minutes before the World Cup. France has tons of talent and if Giroud is on the bench at Arsenal all season he may miss the plane to Russia.

    1. 20 for theo
      15 for.gibbs

      W.I.N

  2. You are right about the money factor. I am sure Giroud would be tempted with bigger money and first-team guarantee.

If Arsenal wants to sell him, they should sell him to Lyon or other non Premier League club. He can score a lot of goals for Arsenal and France, so it would be dangerous if another Premier League club can use his talent.

Arsenal have to increase their football level and should not use tall target man tactic anymore, hence they have to make major changes. Selling Giroud could help Arsenal getting a faster and more skillful striker, like Aubameyang or Lewandowski.

  3. Swap him plus 30M for Lacazette. If he goes to Westham he might score against us like Welbeck has been doing against man utd.

  4. Yes but what happens after the World cup??
This is definitely his last world cup so I can understand his point of view…

Unlike so many fans, I rate Giroud very highly and I think we are the one not playing to his strengths, and I don’t know why we can’t play with two strikers for God’s sake…

Anyway, I believe Wenger can make him stay,he may not be good enough to win us the title but he is certainly worth keeping

  5. we dont really have a stricker since RVP left. who cares about giroud he just the worst stricker ever

  6. Giroud is excellent bench player
But world cup year can see his concerns

    Shame really

  7. If West Ham offered Giroud a substantial wage increase on his current weekly pay packet at Arsenal and of course a guarantee of regular starting role for West Ham when possible. The Onos is on Giroud to likely leaves Arsenal if Arsenal cannot match the substantial wage increase being offered him by WH. Leaving for Lyon could be a preferred choice for Arsenal in a swap player plus less transfer fee payment for transferring Lacazette to Arsenal if Arsenal truly want him and Giroud wants to go there. Go there if Lyon will match or pay above what West Ham has offered to pay him and also guarantee him a regular starting role.

But are these media transfer rumours true?

  8. WHU are reported to be thinking of offering £20m for Giroud, I’d tell them wheee to go with an offer that low for a French international striker. as a UK tax payer I think we’ve given enough to WHU with the ridiculously low deal they’ve been given for the rent of the London Stadium.

Tell them we want £35m and we might consider it, he’s worth more to us than £20m coming off the bench.

  9. I’ll sell Giroud even for 10m. He doesn’t deserve Arsenal shirt, that donkey. When he holds the ball, turns around and face his own goal keeper. How Giroud be a good striker. Ohh! God, have mercy on AFC

  10. If Giroud was so great as everyone is saying, why are your Bayern Munich, City, PSG, Juventus, Real, Barca, Chelsea, Man U, etc not all going for him? He is a great backup player and should under no circumstances lead our attack. The only reason he is starting for France ahead of Laca is because the coach wants France to play a certain way. Griezman and Lacazette have similar styles of play.

  11. I would prefer Giroud to go to Lyon than a PL team. I’d prefer him to stay as a bench player and to challenge Lacazette

However, sending Giroud and cash to Lyon in exchange for Lacazette would solve problems for everyone.
    1. We would get Lacazette
    2. Lyon would get a good striker
    3. Giroud would get regular playing time

Sometimes if you need something or someone special you need to make a sacrifice

  12. Giroud will stay unless marseille come in for him. They have shown they want to build a team with establish French stars eg evra payet recently joined. We have enough games to go around for our players
