What now for Arsenal’s Ospina and Szczesny?

Poor David Ospina has been resigned to being Arsenal’s Cup keeper for the last couple of seasons, but surely a stopper of his quality should be looking to play for a top team every week and he will probably try to engineer a move away this summer.

This could mean that Wojciech Szczesny could be recalled from Roma as backup, but the Pole has also improved dramatically whilst out on loan, and is another that will be wanting to be first-choice wherever he plays, so neither him nor Ospina will have been encouraged by Wenger’s words yesterday ahead of Petr Cech’s 35th birthday…

“You have examples like Edwin van der Sar, who had similar stature, who played until 40 and played until 40 with top-quality performances. So yes, I think Petr has a few more years left,” the manager said.

“He has recently been very sharp. We have three world-class goalkeepers in my opinion and that maintains the focus of everybody. Petr has recently had some great performances.

“He’s highly focused and very professional. You do not make a career like he has made by coincidence. All that of course is always a consequence of the attitude to be a winner, the attitude every day to push yourself. Overall I think it’s fantastic to have people like that at the club.”

If Wenger is thinking like that, it is going to be very difficult to keep Ospina and Szczesny motivated to stay at the club. The next in line of course is Emiliano Martinez, who has impressed in his few first team appearances, and was highly acclaimed while on loan at Wolves last season.

Would we be happy if he was our main backup to Cech?

  1. Wojciech Szczesny is like a new signing as is the Japanese kid we bought and loaned out last season.. Transfer business concluded for Wenger. In the words of Arsene this is a special team (we finished 5th by the way and got humiliated in the Champions league) according to the overpaid one all this team needs is one or two players! After reading this my blood boils how can that arrogant has been of a manager come out after we’ve had an awful season tbf the last 10 years has been below mediocrity and say the team needs 1 or 2 additions? An injury prone team with maybe 2 world class players and can’t even finish 4th at best yet Wenger is still insulting us loyal fans the man is completely out of touch and if he stays I can guarantee it will be a summer like every summer linked to every player in europe get some player we dont need get thumped on the opening day then Wenger realizes we’re a bit short after all and send the infamous Dick Law out to find a deadline day panic buy. Wenger has to go or we’re gonna be a bigger laughing stock than we already are.

  2. Szczesny has improved a lot at Roma this season. Hopefully he can challenge Cech next season. Ospina will definately leave.
We need to keep Alexis, Ozil and Ox at any cost and sign CB, CM, winger and CF.
We have signed Kolasinac on free so we will have money to spend on other areas.
Theo, Welbeck, Perez and Giroud are not good enough. We need to sell atleast 2.
I prefer to sell Welbeck, Theo and Giroud.
Perez deserves a chance. We can easily get 50 m by selling Theo, Giroud and Welbeck. Buy a top striker and winger.
We can sell Gabriel and Mertesaker nd buy a top CB. We should also sell Wilshere and
one of Coq/Ramsey. We can easily get
    100 m by selling
    Theo- 25 M
    Welbeck- 15 m
    Giroud- 15 m
    Wilshere- 25 m
    Gabriel- 10 m
    Ospina- 5 m
    Gibbs- 5 m
    Mertesaker- 2 m
    Sanogo- free

    1. @Robert who’s going to buy Theo n Wilshere for 25M? N then Giroud 15M, Wow we will be lucky to sell these players they are all like Wenger now not wanting to leave cos no other club will b mad enough to sign them n then offer them d silly money Arsenal is offering them

      1. Man City wanted to sign Wilshere last season and Marseille are interested in signing Giroud.

    2. Completely agree. Well, except for Welbeck/Gabriel/Ramsey. There is a shortage of CBs at good price. Sead Kolasinac is joining, looks good for a free transfer. I would go one step more and add Campbell/Elneny/Cazorla/Debuchy to the list. This year we dont have C’League. Chelsea won the league with a strong starting 15 and weak reserve, we should cut all our deadwood, make the team lean and give youngsters a chance, same time sign 3-4 players after clearing this good-for-nothing half team.

    3. Reus = 55 M
      Wilfred saha = 35 M
A top striker and a top cb cost together 90 M.
We can get a right back to compete bellerin for 20 M. Over all. 200 M. If we are ready to spent 100 M along with the 100 M by selling the fringe players we can have a great team.

  3. Some Arsenal fans are complaining we are missing out on top 4, in truth is just what we need, since then, Kroenke and Wenger has been targeted to step down, isnt that what everyone wanted?

As a fan, I am quiet optimistic with our changes, if Usmanov takesover, I can see Arsenal challenge Man City, Chelsea in the transfer market. Money speaks, we can also keep Ozil and Sanchez with the right money.
