What will give Arsenal fans a HAPPY NEW YEAR in 2015?

So this is it Arsenal fans, another year over and a new one just begun, to paraphrase the great John Lennon. And what have we done? More importantly, what are we going to do in 2015 to make sure that it is a good year for everyone of the Gooneristic persuasion?

Well I think it is safe to say that another shiny new trophy or two would be top of our wish list, and I am not talking about the `Wenger trophy`. Clearly the FA cup is the most realistic chance, perhaps the only realistic chance, but I am going to be optimistic here because if you cannot do so at new year, when can you?

The draw against Monaco in the knockout stage of the Champions League is great for two reasons. Not only does it make Arsenal favourites to get to the quarter-finals, it suggests that our awful luck of recent years might be turning. If that carries on into the injury list, then happy days are ahead.

If we do get through and avoid the really big teams, Arsenal could realistically come up against some very beatable teams for a place in the semi-final, such as Porto or Basel, Juventus or Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen or Atletico Madrid. And if Wenger does some good transfer business and we get our injured players back, there is no reason why we cannot have a real go.

And although I joke about the Wenger trophy, it is absolutely vital for us. We have become too used to it and do not realise just how much the likes of the spuds would kill to beat us to a UCL spot.

Then in the second half of the year we want some more top quality players in the summer transfer market in order to bring the Premier League title back to Arsenal. Am I being a bit greedy here or do Arsenal have a real chance of giving Gooners a very Happy New Year in 2015?

  1. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL MY FELLOW GOONERS

We ALL love this club and wish to see the players lift at least one trophy in 2015, like they did in 2014

Remember, we may not be number 1 but at least we aren’t Spuds.

  2. happy new year fellow gunners,

we might have a arsene who, moment with with the next manager my moneys on an thomas tuchel he is like klopp but with far more tactical know how he is very under the radar and unemployed atm he is my outside punt for the next arsenal manager rock on 2015 lets win lots of trophies

  3. A good New Year if we bring in a holding midfielder of a different profile to what we have, and a defender. Anything less and the same “what ifs” will emerge…

But Happy New Year all my gooner brethren, wish you all a prosperous 2015!!

  4. I am hoping that our ‘lost’ players can get back to the form they once had in the new year. Ozil, Per, Ramsey, Wilshere, Theo. All players that I feel like have never played well in the same squad together. Injuries/bad form/playing out of position. Ozil needs to reclaim his throne as the best passer in world football. Per needs to start working as hard as he did last season. Rambo needs to get back to his ‘player of the season’ form he had. Wilshere needs to fulfill his potential and stay injury free. Theo needs this to be the last of his injuries because we are gonna need his pace in the second half of the season.

If we can do these things then we will definitely win a trophy in 2015. Happy New Year Gunners!

    1. Mert will regain some of his form with the return of Kos. They compliment each other and have been thusly successful.

But Wenger needs to realize Mert is on the downhill stage of his career. This is the PERFECT time to bring in a quality CB to begin to take the pressure off of Mert and slowly work his way into the lineup. That is what most good managers do!!!! They don’t wait until it is too late.

  5. OT – just saw on Bbc website podolski stormed out of training ground, all because of luck of starting 11 for the first team.

  6. My happy new year wish list.

    1. Bring in a quality DM
    2. Bring in a quality CB
    3. Some good injury news.

    4. Send Poldi to a club where his talent will actually be put to use – Wenger has inexplicably underused, overlooked, and disrespected this fine footballer. He should be ashamed.

    5. Wenger offers his new year’s resolution to finally set aside his petty vindictiveness and manage for the purpose of winning games rather than managing to spite his critics and massage his massive ego.

    1. Agreed. I cannot express how incredibly low-class the treatment of Podolski has been. Obn top of that, it looks like another piss-poor winter transfer window. Instead of the DM and CB Arsenal need it looks like we get Loic Perrin.

It hate to say it, but if Loic Perrin is what happens in the January window, it’s time to fire Arsene Wenger. I’ve made fun of countless posters who’ve called for Wenger’s firing because i know it will never happen. The board will never do it. It seems silly to keep asking for something that won’t happen. So maybe what we need to hope for is a 7th or 8th place finish so the board will be forced to act or Wenger will, himself realize he’s lost the guts it takes to manage at the top level.

The team is fighting for fourth place and Loic Perrin is not a difference maker. On top of that, he’s 29. Who in God’s name buys a 29 year old center back to solve a clear lack of depth and quality? If this is what astute management looks like to Arsenal’s board, we’re doomed. Eventually a melt down will happen and when it does, it will be Liverpool time. Because once Arsenal fall out of the top 4, they’ll never get back. They club is too business like to overspend to get them back in like Man U did; so they’ll spend the next decade wandering between midtable and the Europa League.

  7. HAPPY NEW YEAR to Admin
HAPPY NEW YEAR to all Just arsenal fans
HAPPY NEW YEAR to the home fans
HAPPY NEW YEAR to the away fans
HAPPY NEW YEAR to gunners the world over

  8. What Arsenal need to do is treat Lucas Podolski fairly and let him leave. If you aren’t going to play him, he should be free to move.

I would love to know what Podolski did to make Arsene Wenger treat him like this. Forget to get him a cake on his birthday? When you think of the times Wenger started Sanogo, who, face it, sucks, over Poldi, it’s pretty poor; really a no class move from a club that is usually the picture of class. This feels personal to me; something between Wenger and Podolski. This is especially the case when you think of how many important goals Podolski has scored for the gunners.

We all know Poldi isn’t a perfect player. His work rate in defense is, well, non-existent; but he he class on the ball and he’s clinical and he loved the club. It is really a really poor way to end/start a year with this kind of turmoil; especially over a player who has been such a positive influence in the face of some pretty poor treatment from his manager.

Of all the things I’ve seen Arsene Wenger do, this is probably the worst. He is ruining the prime of Lucas Podolski’s career for no visible reason. It is clear Wenger doesn’t like Podolski’s play. If he did, he’d play him. When you get dropped for Sanogo, the worst striker on a Premier League roster in 2014, you have no future. Podolski should have put in a transfer request the day Sanogo started over him; but he didn’t. In retrospect, it was a mistake. I am incredibly disappointed in Arsenal over this. I will have a hard time rooting for the Gunners on New Years thinking of how utterly stupid this whole thing is.

Arsenal playing Southampton makes the perfect counterpoint. Southampton refused to let Morgan Schneiderlin go, but then he played every game he was fit to play. Why would you refuse to sell a player and then not play him?

Shame on Arsene Wenger. Shame on Arsenal. When you start making Jose Mourinho look like a class act, you’ve sunk to the bottom.

    1. You say “we all know Poldi isn’t a perfect player. His work rate in defense is, well, non-existent”…..”. At a time we are ultra dodgy defensively but haven’t had a huge amount of problem scoring you are wondering why LP doesn’t play him more often??? Mate, you have answered your own question. If you have a hard time rooting for us because of Poldi not playing I feel for you. You think Chelsea fans are crying because they don’t see Remy or City with Jovetic. Grow a pair and let Poldi continue to trouser his £100K pw and work out a way back in to the team. If Wenger won’t sell him what does that tell you?? You think Wenger is benching him out of spite? And Sanogo doesn’t start instead of him, we have done this LP as a lone striker thing to death, he ain’t ever playing up top on his own – Sanchez or Welbeck are starting ahead of him in the wide left berth.

  9. Yes in May 4thanal will
    celebrate the Wenger.
ECL run will end when we
    meet someone decent.
    FA cup, meh.

  10. Paul35mm u hav said it all wenger is ruining this club with sentiment and personal favorites, personally i feel so bad for podolski, on paper and on goal ratio the best striker at arsenal atm, then u play sanogo and bench poldi dats crazy and stupid from wenger…bcos of sentiments he refused to resign fabregas and song for that he should have been sacked cause there is NO excuse not to sign them also when he sign kim kalstrom injured that was an insult to arsenal fans…wenger should grow up or leave

  11. It’s January. The transfer window is open. We’ve managed to make it this far with a crisis in our defence, let’s strengthen as early as we can and push on. We can still get something out of this season.

  12. Wenger should use his position as a coach to settle personal scores with players. He shouldn’t take Arsenal as a personal property. Why is he treating Poldi the Germany international like is dealing with an amateur. It’s clear that he doesn’t like Poldi, but that’s not helping the team. What Wenger should know is that he is just exposing his poor judgement by the way he is dealing with Poldi and this will taint his reputation.
