Who should be Arsenal’s central midfielders tonight? So many choices…

The Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin was given compassionate leave for the game against West Ham, but Wenger has told us he will be returning to the squad today. But should he actually play considering how well Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny performed in that game?

Between the pair of them they made 191 passes, took 213 touches and won 13 duels, and they were roundly praised afterwards. Even Wenger made it clear that he was impressed with the pairing. “The fact that the speed of our passing [was there],” Le Prof said. “In the heart of the game, it is not only the quality of the passing but the speed of our passing that is needed for the way we want to play, because we have quick strikers so it’s important that we feed them quickly.

“On that front, the quality, the speed of the decision making becomes very important.”

“I must say that our passing was quite good, our combinations were good and the continuity of our concentration defensively during the 90 minutes was very positive.”

We not only have Coquelin back, but Oxlade-Chamberlain only played for ten minutes against the Hammers and will also be in contention for a central midfield spot. And of course we always have Aaron Ramsey at the front of Wenger’s mind…

Which two do you think Wenger should go with for today’s game?

  1. Knowing Wenger, we will more than likely see the same lineup that started against West Ham.
This won’t be an easy game, that’s for sure but with the Wenger trophy hanging in the balance, I’m pretty confident that our lads will Nick the 3 points against a fighting Palace tonight.

  2. It has to be Xhaka and Elneny for me. They where the difference in our game on Wednesday night and we have to give it another go tonight. Another 4.00 am wake up for me this morning. Hopefully it’s worth waking up for like it was the other night.

  3. ” Le Prof said. “In the heart of the game, it is not only the quality of the passing but the speed of our passing that is needed for the way we want to play, because we have quick strikers so it’s important that we feed them quickly.
Am not getting something, is speed not one of the quality of a pass? Old school Le Prof.

    1. It has to be Elneny and Xhaka, I don’t even think there is a choice at the moment unless Cazorla has had a miraculous recovery. Oxlade only got the nod because Elneny was out. It is Wenger though, so people will worry about a surprise or not very surprising (depending how you look at it) A. Ramsey inclusion.

  4. Arsenal trialist Marcelo Allende has proven such a hit while training with the first-team group at London Colney that the players have already given him a nickname.

The Chilean has been on three trials with the Gunners, the latest of which came in January, and has made such a big impression that he has been given the moniker ‘Chile’ by Arsenal players, according to Mirror Football.

Allende who graduated from the same academy as Sanchez, has been a regular visitor to London Colney during the past two years, with his latest three-week spell convincing the club to offer him a contract, now that he has turned 18.

W/ham were so poor on the day, having said that, we should still go with the pairing this night…..
