Who will join these first Arsenal stars to reach World Cup?

When I say that some Arsenal stars have already booked their places in next summer’s feast of international football that is the World Cup, I mean that their national teams England and Germany have, so the likes of Mesut Ozil, Danny Welbeck and Shkodran Mustafi should be in Russia barring an injury or loss of form.

There are at least two Gunners who will be hoping to join those teams at the tournament as well, although both Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott have a lot to do to earn a seat on the plane. Others likely to be there are Alex Iwobi and Mohamed Elneny, whose Nigeria and Egypt teams lead their groups but there are quite a few still to play.

In the South America our Colombian keeper David Ospina’s hopes will be high with his country sat in the third of four automatic qualifiers, but Alexis Sanchez is in real danger of missing out with Chile in 6fh place, although the fifth placed side will have a play-off they should win.

Another Arsenal star looking at the play-off route is Aaron Ramsey but they need to play well in their games especially against Ireland who are just a point behind. Monreal’s Spain, Xhaka’s Switzerland and Kolasinac’s Bosnia alkl look strong favourites to win their groups and will be hoping to seal the deal over the next week or so,

France are just a single point ahead of second placed Sweden but Lacazette, Giroud and Koscielny will be confident of getting the job dome against Bulgaria and Belarus, although our injured defender cannot help Les Bleus on the pitch. So it looks like there will be a strong Arsenal showing at the global celebration of the beautiful game, but which is most likely to lift the famous trophy?

  1. I don’t think Wilshere and Walcott will join Welbeck in England team for the World Cup. I think this England team is better than the previous England World Cup teams, because many players have learned a lot under Guardiola’s and Pochettino’s guidance.

I think Spain would have a big chance to win the World Cup, because they can play with a very low tempo and they have a lot of very skillful players to accomodate that. The way they used their system to crush Italy and dominated other teams is very convincing.

France might have difficulties because they play with quicker tempo, which might not work against very defensive teams. They had similar highly talented players like Mbappe, Dembele and Pogba in the World Cup 2002, but they struggled against Senegal in the opening match, because of the way they play.

  2. Alexis’ Chile are third on the table (not 6th) while Ospina’s Colombia are fourth though with same points and GD but Chile are third on GF.
Ospina caused setback for Colombia as he was at fault for the two goals conceded very late when Colombia was leading 1-0.
I can now see why Cech is our the undisputed No. 1 after watching those goals.
Sanchez’s goal brought them to 3rd but they have a tough away match against Brazil who have nothing at stake except pride.
Sanchez and Ospina can qualify or miss out as the situation is not completely clear except for only Brazil and maybe Uraguay.

  3. I think Wilshere will make the world cup team if Arsen gives him play time otherwise he will have to leave in January and if he dose his old England manager Roy Hodgson who loves him will try to get him on loan to Palace who still don’t have a point yet in the EPL

    1. Made me chuckle so had to give thumbs up for that. Still believe Ozil is not as bad as he’s being painted these days – but then I tend to always oppose bandwagons.
