Who will replace Arsenal’s 4 Euro 2016 stars for Liverpool clash?

It could end up being more than the four Arsenal players who went furthest in the Euro 2016 tournament that Arsene Wenger will have to do without when the Gunners kick off the next Premier League title challenge against Liverpool at the Emirates stadium on August 14th.

There is still a question over the ankle problem picked up by Alexis Sanchez in the Copa America final and Arsenal fans know only too well that injury problems can rear their ugly head at any time between now and then. I also think that there is a good chance that Aaron Ramsey could be ready for that first EPL game but going on the assumption that he will not play and nor will Mesut Ozil, Kosielny and Giroud then the boss has four very big gaps to fill.

Hopefully Arsenal will have signed a top quality striker by then and so the Giroud position will be filled but if not, or if the player we sign is also not ready then we have to look at the current options. Is Walcott the obvious choice in what is likely to be an open game where his pace and movement will be be a huge advantage?

Perhaps Wenger will turn to one of the fringe players like Campbell or even Chuba Akpom, depending on how they perform in pre-season. There is even an outside chance that Yaya Sanogo will get the chance to resurrect his career as he is the forward we have that is most like Giroud.

The defensive pick is fairly easy as I expect Mertesacker and Gabrioel to start as they have done quite a few times in the past but the midfield is the big problem. Both Ozil and Ramsey out means that the midfield will be much changed and I expect Liverpool to come out flying in their first full season under Klopp so energy is very important.

Arsenal are also losing a lot of guile and creativity and will need to find a way to replace that if we are to take all three points so it is a balancing act for the boss. How do you think Arsenal should line up without the four Euro 2016 stars?

Bob.

  1. I just read an article saying all the players who were in the Euro were given a three weeks holidays instead of a month and should be back in time for the EPL match against Liverpool. This would be great news if it were true.

    1. They will be back for Liverpool
      but in what capacity?
      Starter bench or in training?
      A possible squad for Liverpool.
      Cech
      Bellerin Mertz Gabriel Monreal
      Xhaka Cazorla Ramsey Wilshere Sanchez
      Walcott.
      Bench.
      Ospina Chambers Gibbs Coquelin .
The other three subs chosen according to readiness.
1.Koscielny Elneny Ozil Chamberlain Adelaide Campbell Iwobi Sanogo Giroud.
      2. DeBuchy Jenkinson Zelalem Akpom. ( 18 days then loaned)

      1. Well, actually Liverpool was the most contributor of Euro 2016 footballers, specially the Belgium team. Only about one week rest longer than Kos and Giroud. So,I think they also have similar problem about fitness.

        1. Cech
          Bellerin-Mert-Gab-Nacho
          Xhaka-Coq
          Iwobi-Cazorla-Campbell
          Walcott

Subs: Ospina, Chambers, Gibbs, Wilshere, Elneny, Oxlade, Sanogo

  2. Gabriel next to Merts should do it against Liverpool. he performs better next to Per than he does Kos.

Wenger badly needs to sign a CB

  3. Gab replaces Kos
    Mert plays
Cazorla in the hole for Ozil
Sanchez and Iwobi on the wings
Am sure Sanchez will be ready..
The only problem is the CF….

    …….Cech………..
    Bell……Mert…….Gab……Mon……
    Coq…….Neny………
    Sanchez……Cazorla…….Iwobi…..
    Walcott/Higuain…
I even think Xhaka will be ready to play,it is all about HARD team work than just individuals…

  4. Arsenal hardly ever learns from previous mistakes. We’re repeating what we’ve been doing wrong again.
    Let’s see how it goes.

  5. draxler, higuan, subotic in walcott, campbell giroud mert out … that would do me for the summer (even though am not the biggest higuan fan it would be a clear upgrade)

    czech
    bellerin gabriel subotic monreal
    xhaka santi
    ozil
    draxler higuan sanchez

  6. If that’s the case then We can expect another home defeat start to the new season ?

I hear that Tony Adams could be taking Henry’s place with the coaching of the under 18’s ? I’m sure that they will master the art of holding a pint without spilling it, whilst driving around corners. ??=?

  7. Gabriel and Mertsacker together doesn’t fill me with great confidence
I hope we get another Top CB because if we lose Koscielny for long time this season we are screwed like when we lost Coquelin and Cazorla last season

    Depth of quality is important
We have depth of quality for GK, B2B/DM, CAM
We could use another CB, FB (replace debuchy), Top quality winger (we have depth but Theo and Ox are not good enough) and a top striker

  8. It is interesting that while you are complaining that Arsenal will be short of players for the start of the season, because of Euro 16, you want Arsene to buy players who were at Euro to replace them re: Hummels, Griezman, Draxler, and to some extent Higuin. If Arsene buy any of these players because we had players at the Euros it means these players will also miss the start of the season due to their participation in Euros.
