Why Arsenal cannot relax after Perfect pre-season

It would be very easy for the Arsenal players and manager to assume that the Premier League season due to start next weekend is going to be a much happier one for the Gunners than last time. With three more trophies added to the Arsenal cabinet during what could well be described as the perfect pre-season, it certainly should be, but it is also dangerous to assume anything in the modern world of football.

To be honest I do not think that the Arsenal squad will take their foot off the gas and I do not believe that Arsene Wenger would let them if he saw any signs of it happening. But the prof has got to be on guard this week and keep those confident players on their toes.

Our first league game of the season, at home to West Ham, may look like a nailed on three points, especially with the way we have been playing over the last few weeks, but the Hammers are already into competitive games in the Europa League and we could find that their fitness levels are higher, so we will need to be ready for a tough game. And after that we travel to a Crystal Palace that had a great second half of the season under Alan Pardew. They have added the very good Yohan Cabaye (or kebab) to their squad and their vocal home support is like a 12th man.

Then we should be in the swing but until then even a slight easing up of intensity could see us slip up and lose all that momentum we have at the minute. Surely it won´t happen will it Gooners?

  1. Agree with you mate. These London derbies are to die for. I’ve already explained to the missus that weekend evenings for the rest of the year are booked.
My other wife Arsenal is in town…. And she’s a keeper.

  2. Yesterday we beat Chelsea at their own game,I must say I loved the way we defended in the second half,in the big games we must play like that and not be naïve like we used to be

      1. The irony of him saying that,we put in a solid defensive display that pleased me more than anything because a great defence wins you titles

  3. 3 matches,,, 3 trophies,,,, I am 33,,, I wear Jersey #33,,, I ll be playing my 333 league match….. who I am …….Coyg ….what a good start for my Arsenal Career.

  4. Jack Wilshere’s injury is worse than first feared & he’s unlikely to be fit to face West Ham, in Arsenal’s first league game on Sunday

  5. cech telling per mertasacker I told , I told you we could beat them legend already
Rio Ferdinand: “Arsenal have made the best signings, I would say that even if they had just signed Petr Cech.”

Alexis Sánchez returns to Arsenal training today!

  6. Palermo are to make an improved offer of €7m for Arsenal’s Joel Campbell, reports in Italy claim
On This Day 1999: Arsenal signed Thierry Henry from Juventus.

    1. Let’s go all out and sign some good striker for the memory of great striker, ohh no, just forget about it

  7. Yeah I agree. Even Wenger said that we have tricky opening fixtures. Two London Derbies and then Liverpool at home. But I believe the players are very focused this time and clearly desperate to win big. They sensed that they can win the PL title. So there is hunger which will allow us to pass the test.
Team needs to keep the momentum until Sanchez is back and need to grind results.
We desperately need good start and 1st 3 matches are very important.
On another note , people are criticizing Walcott. Yes he may not be having good game but still he registered an assist. He needs one or two chances to impact a game. Strikers are not available now and if they are, Wenger will defiantly be after him.
    Sunny

  8. with Coquelin , Arsenal have won 74% of their games with him starting in the last 8 months compared to just 50% without him

still need a cdm lars bender for 10m would be perfect

    1. so he is good enough to start for Arsenal … but looking upfront we need a starter, it is our weakest link

  9. Just 1 foot to the left with Ox’s shot, and a few centimeters lower with Ramirez’s or whoever it was’ header, and with the same effort and all the song and dance, it could have been Chelski 1 – Arsenal 0. That’s how close it was and it cannot possibly mean anything but a little bit of a moral booster. This game has not shown me that much to indicate that with this team we’ll win the EPL. Cech will make a difference, and the defence will probably concede less goals than last season. BUT, what have we changed that makes us believe we can prize open the defences of those teams that go on the field with 1 objective only, and that is not to lose? I don’t see it. Without a Benzema or other top striker, we’ll get back in the mode of playing out of defence and getting to the other penalty area faster than any other team, only to play the ball back to our ‘keeper while we wait for the opposing defence to arrange themselves. Walcott is NOT a CF, never will be. We need a real striker!!
