Why Arsenal fans need to get behind ‘logical choice’ Unai Emery

Arsenal fans must unite and support Unai Emery by Konstantin Mitov

Is the dust finally settled? When all the medias including Sky and BBC come out with the bold statements that Unai Emery will take over the vacant job of the Arsenal manager you can make a strong assumption it will happen. Not that we weren’t 90% sure it was Arteta.

Anyway I hear a lot of mixed opinions about Señor Emery and I’m baffled by them. First a lot of people didn’t want Arteta and then when we opted for an experienced manager, it’s suddenly not good enough. A lot of people agreed Allegri would’ve been the best choice, but in reality we cannot get him right now.

Arsenal fans need to realise a few things. First, we cannot give 200 millions like United are preparing AGAIN. They’ve probably spent more than half a billion pounds since Fergie left and they’re yet to win a title and despite being second they are not even close to City. We need a new owner if we’re to hire the likes of Enrique and Allegri and it is not happening right now.

We need to be smart if we’re to challenge again. It’s a process that won’t happen in one season, because the premier league is full of big clubs trying to achieve the same thing. We’ve set up a new structure where the manager isn’t Bruce Almighty and that’s a start that needs to be improved by hiring a coach who can make the best of what we have and try to get us back to the top 4.

Our recruitment process is well known and Emery matches the requirements. He is a relatively young coach, he will fit our structure and he has the experience Arteta doesn’t. People will be quick to point to his failures to deliver the ultimate goal at PSG, which is a valid concern, but the situation with us is much different.

Unai Emery made his name in Spain where he helped Lorca Deportiva to a promotion to the second division in his first year. In his next club Almeria he secured the teams first ever promotion to the elite and finished in 8th place in La Liga.

Then he went to Valencia where despite serious financial troubles he finished sixth in his first season before ensuring 3 consecutive third place finishes. The last one perhaps most impressive considering how David Villa and David Silva were both sold in the summer before the season started. This is a remarkable achievement people of course neglect, but when it came to Wenger his 4th spot finish was as good as a trophy.

And speaking of trophies during his time at Sevilla Emery won 3 consecutive Europa League titles, despite having to adapt to squad changes. This is a monster achievement regardless of what you think of the Europa League. The downside to his tenure there was the season where he didn’t manage a single away win in the league, something not too encouraging, considering our own away form.

That said, everyone knows what happened with Emery during his time at PSG, where he was beaten to the league title by Monaco in his first season, where he also flopped a 4:0 lead to Barcelona, although I have to say some of the decisions in that game were shocking. He failed to topple Real Madrid in Europe’s prime competition this season which ensured his departure despite a domestic treble.

The Spaniard is renowned for his video analysis and his ability to bring more than people thought possible from players, especially during his time at Valencia. During his interview, reports suggest Emery discussed detailed analysis of Arsenal players and how he tends to work with them and improve them.

But a lot of people were quick to claim that anybody can do this and make it look impressive and that doesn’t make them a good manager, but if Emery put the work in and came prepared for this interview it’s a plus in my opinion. As I said we’re looking at someone who will come in a system that is put in place and will work hard with what he has, rather than moan about what he doesn’t, like Conte does at Chelsea and Mourinho does all the time.

Some are unhappy with the U-turn we made on Arteta, but look, we interviewed a number of managers and if a better candidate came late on, I’d rather take him than go with sentiment as we’ve seen with Wenger where this leads. There is a very fine line between being brave and stupid when making a decision. Arteta was a massive gamble, while Emery is a logical choice one you break it down to the ingredients we’re looking for.

Here’s a quote from Mr. Emery “Fans want their emotions to come to the surface and the only way to make that happen is to give them a team that transmits emotion: intensity, attacking, scoring goals, competing, fighting. That awakens them. The fans want emotions”.

This resonates with me very well as in recent times I often ask myself the question of why I am watching football and particularly Arsenal when a lot of the things mentioned in the quote have been missing for a while at the Emirates. Emery is a hot blooded coach. I will never forget his celebration when PSG scored at the Nou Camp and his devastation when they eventually lost. It showed the passion of a man that won’t be just rooted to the Emirates chair.

Time is ticking very fast this summer with the World Cup and the short transfer window. This appointment looks a little panicky, but there isn’t much time to dwell on things. Unai Emery looks like a dedicated and intelligent guy. His English isn’t great, but he vastly improved his French during his time at PSG and I’m confident he will improve again and I’m looking to a more positive future with him in charge.

At the end of the day whoever we appoint, there is no guaranteed success. We need to unite behind the new boss, give him a good environment to work in and start building a player-coach-fan relationship that’s been vastly missing for a while now. I can’t wait for the announcement to be done, so we can focus on building the foundations for a new era at Arsenal.

Onwards and upwards!

  1. Emery will help the club save money…hes a Europa specialist…and guarantee a spot in champ league without finishing top 4

Finished 6th, Win Europa, qualify Champ league and repeat

    1. A big step up from Wenger who just used to love his annual European humiliation – even in EL

    2. Emery is way better then Wenger and I think it is time for you to try to understand that (hard?) and stop posting three same santences in every article there is.

      1. Exactly Maks! Wenger hasn’t won any European trophies and had great squads that speaks volumes. Emery will take the club forward

      2. He being payed to argue for the sake of arguing on this site. That or he is a sad person who seeks attention.

  2. Currently Arsenal looks like this:
    Ivan Gazidis – Chief Executive
Francis Cagigao – Head of International recruitment
Raul Sanllehi – Head of football relations
    Huss Fahmy – Contract Negotiator
Sven Minslintat – Head of recruitment
Darren Burgess – Head of high performance
    Unai Emery – Head Coach

    1. I also have to clarify something.People and the media are making it look like Arteta was the one who pulled out and that’s not true. Its funny how people think Arteta who has never managed a club wouldn’t accept our working method but yet Unai Emery would. The truth of the matter is that Arsenal pulled out of the Arteta deal because they felt they could get better in Unai Emery. There are a lot of other coaches we could’ve pursued instead of Arteta and this shows Arteta was the choice and not a smoke screen for whoever.I can confidently tell you 100% that if Unai Emery had not become available Arteta would’ve been the head coach.

      1. Umm I thought you said it was a guaranteed “done deal” ????
        You are full of bull!

        1. It was even reported everywhere that Arteta was going to be Arsenal manager. He was never a smoke screen just so you and others know. The deal was done but Arsenal pulled out due to Emery being available. Its also funny people think an assistant manager who has never managed before would reject Arsenal because he wants more say in transfers.

      2. JUST IN:Barcelona youngsters Joel Lopez (LB) and Robert Navarro are set to sign for Arsenal.
Soyuncu and Sokratis are already done deals but Arsenal can still pull out if they want to.
Unai Emery also wants to bring Julian Draxler to the Emirates.

        1. Kev -you let me down again I really believed you this time .i suppose there’s always the January transfer window for you

    2. Kev, one thing we won’t have to worry about next season is the fitness of the Arsenal. Darren Burgess will have them jumping out of their skins; Australian Rules (Burgess’ background) footballers are fantastically fit athletes.

    3. What is the difference between:
      “Head of Recruitment” and
      “Head of International Recruitment” ?

      Anybody can help me ?

  3. A bit sad to see people like Ian Wright that have now made a career out of rubbishing Arsenal clutching at straws and hoping Emery will fail.

Guaranteed one of two will be the words out of Wrights mouth-

‘I knew Emery would fail. I said it even before they officially announced it.’

    If Emery does well

‘As an arsenal fan I am so pleased. I only ever wanted what is best for this club.’

    1. aren’t they all the same x players are the worst punters clutching on to a few shillings if they make headlines, for me the only punter that i like who is honest is Graeme Souness

      1. Only found out a few weeks ago that Keys and Gray are still at it, seen them on my phone doing youtube.

    2. To be fair Robin VPS, it’s exactly the same thing half the posters in this site would have said if Arteta had been appointed and failed. Regarding this article (or st least the headline), Arsenal fans needed to get behind whoever was appointed manager. Not just the one who they happen to like.

  4. Now here’s a manager that’s going to improve on players that are underperforming (iwobi,Ramsey, mustafi, xhaka, ozil) thank your stars…. “When I came here the supporters said to me: “please don’t play Reyes.” I said to him: “Jose, do you know what they’re saying about you?” We worked on it. And now every time he goes out at the Sanchez Pizjuan, the crowd are chanting: ‘Reyes! Reyes!’”
    Emery on improving players

  5. Emery’s team is usually a beauty to watch

But he will face heavyweight managers like Guardiola, Klopp, Pochettino, Mourinho, Pellegrini and the new Chelsea manager, so we have to fully support him for several seasons

What excites me is he could bring some talented Spanish players to Arsenal. We had some technically gifted Spanish like Reyes, Monreal, Bellerin, Fabregas and Cazorla

    1. Pochettino? Klopp? How many of these two have managed a club bigger than PSG at this moment and have won 8 trophies including 3 consecutive Europa league with a poor club. Please don’t insult our intelligence.

  6. Can you please wait till his appointment is confirmed. You did a similar piece about Arteta, though negative, and it turns out he is not getting the job. I don’t know how being wrong makes you feel.

    1. And you are bad in football. How many games did you watch when he was at Valencia and Sevilla?

      1. Wengeritis or split-wenger personality disorder. No cure developed as of now though I believe a good old smack can help lol

        1. Ackshay,
What a complete idiot you are.
When you finally grow up and appreciate what Wenger has done for the club, I just hope you will realise what a p@@t you were when you were in your teenage years.
Just like konstanly moaning , you can’t move on.
Get over it, stop trying to be clever and move on.
While people like you keep posting the same old dribble, our fanbase will never unite.
Can you not debate anything without mentioning Wenger?
I know the answer and it’s no, because one Braincell does limit one’s capacity to produce sensible debate

          1. It was a joke and you’re response shows exactly who has the 1 braincell and cannot get over his wenger love. I know everything he’s done for us, hell i loved him and respected him in my teenage years but now i still respect him as a man not as a manager.
You’ve clearly never known a man/woman who was once great but for some reason slowly became a monster i do and i am sick of people treating him like a god. You think yourself great because you respect wenger guess what every single wenger out loved him once now we just respect him and he needed to go.

  7. Logical choice couldn’t even beat Arsene Wenger. Main positive about appointment is that he can definitely win us Europa League and back in UCL. This guy may have a reputation for being very tactical, but he doesn’t pull off the results he should most of the time. He’s fine, but nothing to write home about, hardly a top manager. Didn’t expect us to get it right the first time though. I’ll still get behind him. And funny how Konstatin wrote a long article bashing Arteta, but in this article he tells everyone to come together. Only when it’s a manager he wants. Should’ve been your message throughout.

      1. Exactly, this guy ‘pulled results’ almost all of the time, but not winning the CL with PSG means we should have gone for has-beens like Ancelotti (who also failed with PSG).

      2. RSH,
        Absolutely agree with you.
People like konstanly moaning have delighted in splitting our fanbase and now he asks us to unite because he has got what he wants?
Some of us have long memories and can’t wait to see how he will react if he doesn’t get what he wants over the next season.

  8. Emery isn’t a bad manager/coach, from reports… He will drill the players with their tactics, get the popcorn lads!

How many times have we gooners said that we need someone who will teach the team how to defend?
How many defenders do we have that have shown great promise when 1st signed then dropped off after receiving Wenger coaching?

Players like Chambers, Holding and Mavropanos could really benefit from someone sitting with them and teaching them how to defend better, better positioning and knowing when to go to ground or stay on feet…

Then we have moaned about Xhaka not being a DM.
To be fair to Xhaka, he has shown the capability IF and a bit IF, IF he was trained how to do the def side then he might actually make a decent DM. Not the worlds best but Gilberto Silva wasn’t the worlds best DM and he done a fantastic job for us. Xhaka has shown some pace recently (surprising isn’t it lol), and Xhaka has shown very good strength to keep players off the ball… If he could read the game better then he could easily play a DM.

Xhaka is going to need to invest in a popcorn company when Emery arrives 😉
    But this is good!
Xhaka has quality and we all have said that it was Wenger that made him a flop in EPL.

I wouldn’t have picked Emery but when I sit down and think about it, it is a good choice, not the best but a damned good pick.

    1. Xhaka was performing during the last month a lot, but fans can be very biased and harsh once they made up their minds.

    2. Seem wenger has already succes deceive you to think xhaka is a dm.
Xhaka is cm, and should play as cm, remember xhaka is santi replacement, not coqelin or dm anyone.

      1. For me, it is the team that defends and with that approach then as long as his DM partner is someone who presses a lot and is good at his role (Vieira) then the DM isn’t required to put in 30 tackles a game… They got to be able to tackle but mainly to read the game and to snuff things out before a tackle is needed.

Xhaka has shown willingness to develop his game and I haven’t overlooked that, Wenger has changed Xhaka and IMO not all for the best which is part of the problem with him currently.

    3. Totally disagree about Xhaka. If I were manager , he, Mustafi and BELLERIN WOULD ALL BE QUICKLY OUT THE DOOR FOR GOOD.

      1. Mustafi… I won’t argue that as he has disappointed massively. At somepoint I likened him to David Luiz, okay a poor version but that lead me to wonder if he could make a better DM than CB?
I shouldn’t be thinking like that anyway, AFC have the funds and we need to invest in the squad if we want to compete soon instead of 10 years time.

Xhaka, I would give him 12 months more to see if the new manager(head coach, whatever title they give) can get him playing like a WC player he can be. If not then bye.

Bellerin, I think he has a lot of potential and willingness to develop himself as a player but are you going to blame his lack of def development on Bellerin and not the coaches? He shown a LOT of potential and would you not be frustrated at AFC if we sold him to say… Juve and Allegri gets him playing like the WC RB that the potential promised? I would be frustrated.

I can only imagine at the progression of our promising CBs with a manager drilling them in their roles, showing them clips till they’re crying to be let out… But then it would be Emery as manager and not you 😛 Emery drilling them and not you. You may sell them but you may not get them to develop and reach their potential so selling them would be the better move instead of destroying any worth they have left XD

  9. Why did the board not even consider Leonardo Jardim? Is Unai Emery a better coach than Leonardo Jardim?. Anyway, its Unai we have chosen and we should offer him 100% support

    1. Emery was a champion with PSG in this season, 13 points ahead of Jardim’s Monaco

Jardim is also still under contract with Monaco, hence Arsenal have to pay to Monaco if they really want him

  10. For some time I have
    doubted the “Arteta” story
    as publicly advocating candidates
    is not the Arsenal way.
There has been no such public endorsement of Emery
by the club so this appointment seems more likely to be true.
I hope it is Emery but just as Arteta was “confirmed”
then ruled out who is to say the Emery “confirmation” won’t be ruled out also?
Until it’s officially announced on Arsenal.com it could be any one.

    1. Sounds like you have inside knowledge, your really our next manager aint you Barry 😉

  11. Good thing about Unai Emery is that his teams have passion. Wenger’s teams lost their intensity and passion 10 years ago. Let’s get behind Unai Emery and get some fire into the belly of the team.

  12. People are judging #emery based on his time in psg. Cmon the guy himself said that since neymar joined psg he has had little power just like what happened to jose mourinho at real madrid. Dealing with players with ego is perhaps the hardest job a coach can have and so i will judge emery on his time at sevilla where he stayed for 4yrs and lifted the europa league 3 consecutive times with average players again it is said that the lad knows more about arsenal than any other interviewed candidate.. I wanted allegri but i would take emery any day over arteta

  13. Yep we should get behind our new coach………..this guy is just a younger Wenger………….I doubt if he can get us to next level………..he seems to do well with lower status teams…….and not so well …….with top status teams………..Arsenal has to be bold……and……pick Arteta as our new coach………..he will work his arse off to win a league title…………and CL………

    1. We’re not in the Champions league and certainly won’t win the league with that squad of players with a 36 year old novice.. anyway Arteta is no longer an option so it’s all hypothetical

  14. Its time to unit and support the club. Emery is not a manager who you have to support but who you freely want to support. He has what it takes to succeed. I cant wait for the new season.

  15. I’m 100% behind our new manager Unai Emery! And although some people think it could still be someone else.. it won’t! I’m from the UK and it’s 100% being confirmed later this week probably Friday at the latest and also bookies are taking no more bets on next Arsenal manager so it’s a done deal! I couldn’t be happier about the appointment of Emery and what impressed me was he actually already had an in-depth knowledge of every Arsenal player, not just performances but injury records the man leaves no stone unturned and I’ve also heard he analyzes every detail so much so he gives his players a flash drive of their own performances to take home and study so our underperformers will be getting homework! For too long that squad of players have slacked and coasted through games knowing fully well the manager would never drop them, that was one of our downfalls! Get behind the man, with his knowledge and desire we can be a force again especially in Europe something that Arsenal football club have continually failed at under Wenger and Wenger had some great squads but still couldn’t deliver on the continent! Wenger has no European trophies in his 34 year managerial career and people still call him world class ? Then if that’s true so is Emery and even more so!

    1. ?
John you should listen to the comments by Alejandro Moreno on ESPN; what a complete tosser!

      1. he’s exactly that Ozziegunner? he’s a second rate pundit and was a second rate footballer ? I haven’t heard his latest comments but he’s not gonna blow my buzz.. Wenger’s gone, Lego hair is staying put.. it’s been a great week ?

    2. Bellerin has needed homework for years. Emery could be the man to make Bellerin a better defender. I hope players like Mavrop, Chambers and Holding all pay attention, they shown good promise but kinda went stale… Apart from Mavrop, not had long enough to go stale which is reason for more excitement 😛

  16. 1.things is looking up.
    2.support our new head coach.
    3.players need to step up.
4.arsenal need to get in some quality.
5.we are nw a force to be reckon with.
    6.I love arsenal football club.

    1. Emery will turn things around. It Wil take time. If Arteta was appointed, he would not do too much differently from Wenger. I have felt that these players need a fresh approach. Arsene came a cross as if he never really did his homework on teams with the same game an wek in and week out. I think Emery will help steady the ship at least, and might surprise us and may help this Arsenal side over-achieve.

  17. Emery who?you notice that some people were saying enrike is not good enough because even their grandmother would win the titles with a team with messi,Emery failed to win cl twice with PSG with arguably the most talented squad in Europe. Wenger would win champion league with the kind players PSG has,and you can’t measure the success of coach by cup competition.Gutted for that u turn.

    1. Counsel, would Arsene Wenger be able to handle the big egos of Neymar and Cavani, when he let Ozil play when he wanted?
By the way PSG last season scored more goals than Manchester City in winning the respective leagues.

      1. Wenger wouldn’t win the Champions league with Pele and maradona up top! He had Vieira, bergkamp, overmars, petit, Anelka, Henry, pires Ljungberg etc still couldn’t win it Counsel! Haha Ozziegunner Wenger can’t handle his own ego which is bigger than Paris’s most famous landmark

    2. It was not the most talented squad in Europe. Your comment is full of garbage. Build a shrine for Wenger and move out there, or stay and start and try to support our new manager.

      1. Again you Wenger out fans ruined the club and got us in this position. Psg fired emery and tried to get wenger, how does that make you feel? Now you bitch about any manager that’s related to the club. I’m tired of the bitching. There were times under Wenger with the same team, where the same team balled out against any team and could play against any team in the world. So stop bitching about the players and try to support them even when they are doing bad. And you might get a different response from the players because the can feel when the atmosphere is toxic.

        1. Bitching? Others might call that having an opinion and freely expressing them as we are all entitled to do, since YOU do not own this site, thank God! Until YOU rule the world, stop telling others how to think and how to write, as you make yourself look an arrogant knowall. Geddit?

          1. That’s my opinion. I’m untitled to feel how I feel. And I feel like alot of other arsenal fans bitch about everything and anything. How is that supporting something when you bitch about every aspect of the club even when the change your bitched about is taking place. Turn your everyday bitching into support. You will feel much better about yourself. #stop bitching

            1. You are entitled to your OWN opinion , yes. But you are not entitled to make others opinions for them. No one is! That is democracy, so as I said, until you rule the world you have no such right! If you cannot understand their opinion, then that is your lack of understanding, not theirs! YOU ARE BEING ARROGANT AND NO ONE LIKES ARROGANCE OR ACCEPTS IT.

              1. Jon fox your are a 1st rate idiot. I said what I believe and I was not trying to win yours or anybody support. So you should try to make better since with your insults and if calling you and others crying bitches. Then that’s my opinion and im not asking you to do or say anything you already sided with Wenger out camp and still knock the greatest manager arsenal ever , even when he stepped down to quiet your bitching. But that’s your opinion of the man and I wrote my opinion of fans like you. See I content you to change Jon. I want you to final throw your hands up , give up and go support another team. We need fans with some sort if loyalty to our history during the good times and bad times. Fans like you keep a constant dark cloud surrounding the team. Now what ever manager we get. Please try to show some class and don’t call for the manager to be out after the 1st practice. Because thinking that you know more about football then the professional’s makes you alot more arrogant then me homie. But hey do me a favor and stop bitching just show support.

                1. Listen sonny, I was supporting Arsenal even before your Dad was born, judging by your childish comments. 60 years ago I started regularly attending and had a season ticket for over 35 years. I never said this manager should be out after the first practice. That is your own puerile invention , not my words at all. Only idiots make up comments and accuse other people of saying them when they have NOT said them. And then blame them for saying what they have NOT said. Your IQ is clearly way below average and I have no more time to waste arguing with such as you, sonny, so get back to your homework, as it’s a school day for you tomorrow!

                  1. He probably is a schoolboy Jon, he’s probably only ever seen Arsenal on tv.. the bitterness over Wenger cries out youth.. difference is that we’ve seen him for 22 years the youngsters haven’t!

            2. Putting the sexism aside I think the “bitching” was about one thing … The persistence with wenger 8 years past his expiry date … That’s history now so am happy to give this guy a chance … Just hope he is given enough resources to stamp his mark on the club

              1. Wow sexism is reaching far. If Wenger go somewhere and win and we don’t win with anybody at the helm. What does that say? Wenger needed to go but not like how arsenal or the Wenger out crowd treated him. Now I’m not mad that his has left. I’m pissed off because the Wenger out folks got there wish and I still seeing ads clowns disrespect a man that have his all to the club. Were is the loyalty at. And now you got folks bashing arteta and emery. In additiin to bitching about everything else that arsenal isn’t doing. I wanna say thanks to you fans that support the club no matter the result.

                1. Indy757,
Your point regarding how our ex manager was treated by SOME of the fans is absolutely correct.
It was my bone of contention for so long.
Not the fact that the time was right for a change of direction etc etc but the witch-hunt that some of the fans embarked upon.
I now wonder why, after the man has gone, they still persist in this drivel?
I really want to move on, but cannot do so when these posts keep appearing and splitting the fanbase.
I will be behind the new manager whoever he is surely that is what supporting a club is all about?

                  1. Ken, I also want to move on and support the new manager with the hope that Emery can get more out of Arsenal’s under performing players.
Also Ken, with all due respect, the reason so many fans turned against Arsene Wenger is that he couldn’t take the hint, that it was time to move on.
I believe he was given a great and deserved departure by the vast majority of fans.
Unfortunately some people cannot accept that he is gone.

  18. I am much more happy with Emery than with Arteta. The new coach has some very good players to start with and some money from the Board. This is a new era for all of us Arsenal fans. We just need to be patient.

  19. regardless of who is becoming our new manager/coach, why not us all give him a couple of years to prove himself.i was shocked to see arteta out slogans , even without him being announced as manager. the trouble is , that man , the former manager of our club, divided and conquered us as arsenal fans. both sides thought they were right , and therefore a split was driven right down the middle . i think it is time to get ready to support the incoming manager regardless of who he/she is .time to enjoy the football again and forget aout the boardroom .i just cant wait until the new season kicks off. it is the one time that arsenal fans are always hopeful , i have a funny feeling that this kick off in august could be very special for us .

  20. Another good article from you Konstantin. You analyse really well. I always look forward to your articles, something I would not say about all contibutors to this site.

  21. After convincing myself it was to Arteta I was keen to see what he could and would bring to the Club.Everything told me he COULD just be exactly what we required. And now it looks like it’s Emery who will be the Manager and I’m even more convinced the choice is the correct one.The man has proved himself at the top level with PSG last season with the exception of the Champions League.Lets not be too harsh on this. There are a number of stand out Clubs and he came up against them in his two seasons. The first leg of the Barca game in Paris showed what he could do.The second leg merely showed what Barcelona can do to ANY team at any given time.He can and will improve us.If it wasn’t for our pathetic Away form against nearly every team that finished below us last season we would easily have qualified for the Champions League. If we had not played into AM’s hands in the first leg at the Emirates we would have won the Europa Cup and qualified that way.So If he can improve us defensively (to be fair anyone could do a better job than what Wenger and Bould did these last few seasons) then we will get Top4 next season. That must be the immediate aim.And while would all wish to have Champions League over Europa League every time he can use the EL and Carabao Cup to give valuable game time to the youngsters and squad players like Wenger did last season.
I can’t accept the criticism the Board and particularly Ivan Gazidis are getting. They have not dragged their heels like some are suggesting but then again they have not rushed the appointment either.Emery will have plenty of time to sort out signings with Sven and Raul and as we don’t have too many who will be at the World Cup too long he will have the majority of the Squad for pre season.
What is there to complain about?
The majority wanted Wenger gone and he has.The Board(Ivan Gazidis) needed to act and they did.

    1. You do not blame the board at all?
Gazidis was weak in getting Wenger out, finally happened but Gazidis was forced into action when Wenger went above him and got his new contract. Then we seen Sven come in and Raul and we seen how it was Sven and Gazidis who spent ALL TRANSFER WINDOW TRYING TO PENNY PINCH which has been a constant issue with AFC missing out on players for YEARS. People tried to blame Wenger for this yet this didn’t happened prior to Gazidis arriving and after Dein, the pattern continued after Wenger was excluded from transfers in Jan and you still refuse to acknowledge how the board has been failing our great club?

Ken Friar reportedly confirmed that Wenger was told how much he would have available to him, Wenger didn’t decide… The board did. If it was £5 million or £50 million, Wenger wouldn’t complain. Maybe Wenger should have complained and made it public? The board was refusing to invest in our squad while Wenger remained at AFC until the point where we made a LOT back in Wengers last summer window where he had a say. The 1 transfer window after Wenger got his new deal…

You can’t accept the criticism for issues like that?

Compare Gazidis to Woodward, both AFC and UTD was top dogs in the EPL and I feel a valid comparison. Look how UTD capitalised on their brand while Gazidis acted like a CEO of a small team like Stoke. Even now, we all know we need to invest in the club but we will not compete to get a def like Koulibaly for just over £80million, instead cheaper Sakrotis. I will point out that UTD finished 7th in their Moyes year and that was when they got the shirt deal which they are now collecting (I think) around £75 million a year, a Lukaku. We had UCL football and got a worse deal. One CEO acts like a big dog while the other is looking for a pat on his head. Go figure which one is which.

I am glad things are improving but I will not willfully remain ignorant of the truth, the truth is that the board has failed to act for too many years which has lead us into this situation and as such they have to be criticized for their failings.

      1. u compare man u To arsenal you must be delusional man u Is a bigger club than arsenal regardless of there league position.. spurs should get a better deal If its all about champions league football….
arsenal football club Is trying of late Come on guys give credit were due…
even if arsenal have the whole world sections will complain it’s like its all u live 4 critics

        1. I agree no matter what the club and board does you just have some arsenal fans that will bitch all season long. If we’re in 1st. They will say we been in 1st to long. They will find anything to bitch about. #stop bitching

        2. Nonny,
Yet we are compared to United when analysing results, trophies, money spent on transfers etc
Why do we not argue and discuss on a level playing field and not try to. pick and choose facts that only suit our views .
For example, ask any Chelsea fan if he thinks the cup win over united was irrelevant or a united fan if he wasn’t gutted about the result.
But some of our fanbase ridiculed the club’s achievements in this competition, so go and compare our attitude and ask yourself if we are delusional

      2. I think in the future more will come out about the changes tgat happened at the club and how Wenger did more good than harm In the end. Wenger hasn’t had the same power since silent stand came on board and we never aimed the blame at the board. It’s time for a new coach but pay attention and see what we get from this season.

        1. Good insight, the way those backroom moves came about in the first place. Twas not the case with Fergie.

  22. I think Emery is desperate to prove his worth against Europe’s top manager’s like pep, mou, etc have a feeling it’s going to be a cracking few seasons ahead..

We have nothing to loss everything to gain…
He looks a great deal to me..

wait can’t still believe we looked at arteta pls someone should tell me why we even looked at him(midtable player, was lucky to play for arsenal purely a panic buy as captain at afc he was rubbish )not even fit to remove santi boots
Spain never considered him even as a 3rd choice deleted arsenal related articles When he joined city) struggling to even see his name related to arsenal talk more of managing at arsenal..

  23. Emery has agreed to allow the Arsenal board to have control over those transfers. This is not good will they be picking the Team also. This would make Emery just a figurehead while the Board who by the way don’t know their Ass from their Elbow to run the Club from the Boardroom. This should be good so sit back and enjoy the show.

    1. I heard that the board had to give in a little bit in order to gain his signature. I can’t imagine any manager letting other people decide who gets sold, you work with them every day but then just watch as someone plucks them away. Also with targets, you may need three different positions filled, who is anyone to tell you which is the most pressing concern.

  24. rubbish of a coach..he failed to win da champions league w PSG a team w neymar mbampe cavanni di maria raboit thiago Silva den u think he wil make t w Ramsey iwobi xhaka mustafi lol yals r dreaming..and he always z in europa…dis z a bad choice

  25. making transfers and having a say is two different things He will probably have a say just that the transfers is done by another

    get ur details dude

  26. There’s only one downside that I see. PSG didn’t win the CL because facing Madrid and Barcelona they played into the hands of top footballing sides. PSG had the right to believe that they can play anyone off the park, but it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be a little more cautious against teams that know how to score hatfulls and also know how to win. A little more pragmatic approach could have went a long way. I remember PSG facing English sides and PSG looked something to behold, they knew all the tricks eating up the clock, they looked awesome at times. But Barcelona are the masters, and Madrid know how to get it over the line. A little more luck and PSG could easily have been a winner. Look at the luck Liv got this season, PSG never had that, Roma standing between them and a final. Juventus or A Madrid and I believe that would be all she wrote for Liverpool.

I’m hearing that Unai Emery wants to build his team around Aubameyang and Ramsey.

  27. I am happy its confirmed and finalised early so Unai can have a full pre-season and transfer window. Honestly i dont want Unai to bring to many players in one goal. Two world class players- maybe a CB and GK, and a few you g players that are performing then do the same every season. An overhaul would send us down the Man U route. It never works out well.

Sidebar: I hope he keeps Perez and we see the best of him. Felt he was robbed under Wenger.

  28. Obvious why an Allegri would hesitate to join the 6th place team in the EPL when he is at a club on the level of Juve. So the top top guys were never really realistic. But short of that this is a very solid choice. Younger guy, tons of credit to him for doing really well with some of the most over-achieving Spanish sides in recent history. As for his failures at PSG, I think the culture there is really poor and the number of spoiled brat “stars” they had contributed to their failures. Bickering about who will take pks etc. In general I just think they threw money blindly at players without much tactical thought to who they signed and that team never seemed like anything more than a collection of stars. Losing to Madrid, the best UCL in recent memory is not a sign that you were a bad manager either. By that measure are Barcelona or Bayern bad teams or poorly managed bc they didn’t win the UCL?? I think with a group who has a more solid “team” mentality he can thrive. Where ego’s don’t dominate the locker room and he can assert his philosophy he will do fine. Excited for the future.
