Why Arteta is vital to Arsenal winning Premier League

Arsenal have a lot of things going for them this season, with a great team spirit, a manager who has really got his mojo back and a squad full of talented players. So you cannot really say that any one player is vital to the cause, although a lot of football pundits have spoken exactly that way about Olivier Giroud.

For me though, Mikel Arteta is not only overlooked for his contribution, he is absolutely vital to Arsenal’s success this season. He is the Xavi Hernandez of the Gunners team, as the Barcelona fans say, the brain of the team. Last season we were all calling for a `proper` defensive midfielder and I am really glad we signed up Mathieu Flamini. Not only has the Frenchman given Arsenal some bite which we have missed, he can cover for Arteta when the Spaniard is unavailable.

But Arteta really makes us tick in a way Flamini doesn’t. As usual against Spurs, his passing accuracy was the best in the team but that only tells a fraction of the story. His passing was clever and dictated the pace of the game. He read what they were doing and was there to make sure it didn’t happen. He organised those around him and, just like his hair, he was always in control.

In a red hot derby atmosphere, with a young and slightly experimental side, Arteta was the calm centre that allowed the rest to play without fear. I dread to think what will happen if he picks up a bad injury, because I feel we would miss him more than any other player. Do you agree?

Dortmund will not sell him, guarantee it. Theres not a chance in hell he’ll leave this January.
And before you start crying over the buy-out clause it is NOT ACTIVE until 2015

        @ pat

Maybe not, we will find out in the coming weeks, but the positives coming from the emirates is that it’s up to Wenger now, as the board have basically said we can spend on a replacement..!!!!!!!

@pat.. Typical, same old same old regarding transfers I guess.. One party saying this, another that, all set to confuse, stress us out, and worry us if we fall behind in the title race..!!

Whatever is going on, every Gooner is very saddened by the bad news to Theo, it’s a nightmare for him, the club and us. It hurts, despite sitting at the top of the table. TW14 is a very important player for us who scores/creates and constantly threatens our rivals when we play them. Puts fear into them and they get drawn to him to free up other dangerous players. However we are ONLY 1 point clear at the top, and everyone knows this IS our BEST chance in a long time to win something this year. With all the instability/changes in management at other clubs, our current league position, destruction of the scum on Saturday gone etc…we cannot let this opportunity slip. Surely the board and Wenger know this, and will therefore be working hard behind the scenes to bring in real quality (who could be tempted with the chance to win the premiership in their first season with us!). However it is January, and great transfers rarely do materialise at this time of year. So hoping for some Wenger magic, but I do still believe we have enough to win at least one trophy to put in our cabinet this year. COYG

Thats great our defense is more solid then a rock get a top notch striker for the goals and if wenger is really feeling frisky (hopefully) get a winger too .. Loan or cash but make sure they suit our team philosphy and will not disturb the team harmony and spirit but BOOST the MORALE ..

    Arteta, always fresh.

If Arteta gets an injury we will surely lose our core of the field, although Flamini can fill that role sometimes like you said but you’re right, Arteta is crucial for our performance.

I just hope luck is on our side the upcoming games till atleast other players return, can’t lose anymore players right now and we HAVE to win next 5 games.

Anyway, my question for other Gooners.
    Mandzukic or Costa?

I’d take Flamini over Arteta any day. He’s too slow for me, and his instincts in that position are way overrated. He did an OK job when we were in the shit a year ago but we press so much better with Flamini in the side.

theres a reason why he’s basically the active captain.

I do wish he (and basically everyone else) wouldn’t be so shy from striking the ball from afar…he did it plenty of times, scored out of the box, but now ive seen plenty of times when he could strike and doesnt

Off topic: what on earth was Draxler doing at the emirates? You don’t just randomly pitch up at a foreign clubs stadium for a “TOUR”.

Good player, very technical and brilliant against weaker, less pressing opponents. Unfortunately against more physical teams, Arteta is a soft target and easily bullied off the ball. When he comes of age, we need to replace him with a more physical, taller DM with the same technique, one not so easily pushed around against tougher teams.

      @Big Gun
I agree. Even though he can hold his own against more physical players, his over enthusiasm when doing so gets him in trouble…

I always get the feeling that theres more to him though.

I like flamini his your aggressive type of player you need in the middle of the park but his not your decorate dm that can have a killer eye of a pass like song use to do for us and sometimes will still miss that 50 yard killer ball ozil is coming good but we haven’t seen the best of him yet and when we do he will be better that fabregas and on the transfer saga wenger will buy but he will not reveal who because it too early in the window and if he says anything do you really think another team will not try to hijack the deal look at the ozil deal one reason we were able to get him is because it was so close to the end if he did it early in the summer we wouldn’t have got him even with the higuain deal Napoli came at the last minute wage was agree with arsenal and everything Napoli where in interested like most teams they wait for arsene wenger and then make there move cough cough Tottenham lamella vertongen caupone etc so lets be patience but im sure he will get someone

Used to hate Song’s long balls. Too risky and we often got caught on the break because of him. I always said he had a Hollywood complex and it cost the team.

A bit off topic, regarding United: No chance anymore in FA and, a tough job just to get into Europe League (not mention to be in top four).
Can’t imagine before, that United is fighting at Capital One Cup, only to face the strong City :-).

Great to have Arteta- Flamini options.
So why are we short another top quality striker, right back and CB? 100 mill to spend on transfers, 150 mill to spend on wages, great training facilities and all week to get players up to speed.

    Arsenal.

    A conservative prediction.

    To reach 83 points.

    Home:

Win: Fulham Sund’land Newcastle Westham Swans Palace W/Brom

    Draw: City, United,

    Away

    Win: Villa Norwich Stoke Hull
    Draw: Spurs Everton Southampton
    Lose Chelsea, Liverpool.

I’m looking at them home games and in 2014 the emirates really could and perhaps should become a fortress. All matches bar man city I will go into expecting a win. For us to win the league we would have to beat united, beat southampton and perhaps pick up a draw at Liverpool or Chelsea

Yes a draw at Chelsea and Liverpool and a home win against Citi would swing things significantly in our favour. However our form this season suggests we struggle against the top 3-4 opponents, especially away. I personally think if we get 6pts or more from Everton, Spurs and Southampton that will be enough to win the EPL.

looking at the way the fixtures are laid out above, i would say we should definitely get 83 points, but i would like a draw with Chelsea and beat Liverpool making it 87 points. The league should be ours then.

Arteta has been good for us , but watching matches that we have been beaten, he is actually our week link, our defenders normally use arteta as our release valve by passing him the ball to get it moving, at this point they close him down quickly and use physicalty to win the ball, this normally stops our free flowing game . for me winning is important and losing his hell, with whosoever playing forward we will win against the smaller teams, but in order to win against the big teams we need a physical specimen. Blessed with pace and technical abilties matic or the young man from lisbon comes to mind. Yes you going to say a forward is more important, but have we played any game so far without scoring with the limited options we have NNoooo therefore a quality DM then we need a pacey forward and there is enough games for everyone to rotate
