Why Man City win could be good news for Arsenal

On the surface of things and looking from an Arsenal fan’s point of view, the win for Man City in the Premier League last night away to AFC Bournemouth is bad news. Not only does it put Pep Guardiola and his team up into second place and two points ahead of Arsenal, it suggests that City have really found their form again.

Eddie Howe’s Cherries have been a tough nut to crack at home, with Liverpool losing there after a l;ate comeback, while the Gunners needed a Giroud inspired three goal turnaround just to rescue a point. So why say the win for Man City could be good for Arsenal?

Well it might not, of course, as they are one of our big rivals for a top four finish and the Champions League place that earns. However, if we are holding on to any title ambitions like Arsene Wenger suggested, we need Chelsea to falter and I believe that the more pressure Antonio Conte and his players have on them the better the chances of them dropping points.

That is why I was glad when Tottenham beat them and have even been a little disappointed when our rivals have dropped points, as it has all been playing into Chelsea hands. City’s win close the gap to eight points and if that puts pressure on the league leaders then all to the good.

I still cannot see them blowing it but you never can tell.

      1. Bob obviously doesn’t want Chelsea to win the league ?
He admits that we are all but out of the title race, yet he is happy to see our rivals win and close the gap on the leaders ? and he also glad when the spuds win ? and feels disappointed when our rivals drop points ?
Yep, I have to agree with twig…. Lol and Lol again ???

  1. Oh yeah, I was absolutely delighted to see City leapfrog us and go second in the league, leaving us in 4th place!

    1. Don’t forget that the winners of the Europa league gain excess into the champions league as well. There could be extra trouble in qualifying for the ECL with Utd and the spuds in that competition.

  2. Pissing me off to see Draxler doing great against Barca. He would have been ours few seasons back but Mr we do not need anyone never even tried to get him. Anyway, hope tomorrow we get the right team and attitude on the field.

    1. the “I almost signed” players always do very great in the teams that showed they want them, and we keep admiring & dreaming what they could do if they played for us.

  3. The one who gave me thumbs down cos of Draxler comment , Are you watching the game? What goal.. Sorry those who know about football are with me.

  4. on another note, how brilliant is Draxler. just think if we had a chief exec llike david dein instead of that incompetent gazidis this would be the type of world class player on our roster.

    1. The player has already stated that he was surprised that Arsenal didn’t come for him, after years of scouting him.
I don’t think that this has anything to do with Gazidis, it’s more like Mr Wenger didn’t want the player, he obviously favoured Iwobi and Ramsey instead.?

  5. I like draxler but it’s all about verrati for me, what a player! I’m surprised Wenger hasn’t used arsenal money and also some of his own to get Marco, knowing his love for skilful midfielders. Oh how I’d love to swap ozil for verrati. Ozil is quality but when it suits him.

  6. No matter how many starts you got on the pitch, if the tactics are wrong and top up with the players attitude.the opposition has always a chance. If we could have snatched Draxler and Suarez plus ozil and alexis we would have a team to match any big UCL team. We ended up with Sanogo, japanese in germany on loan, the swedish midfielder, debuchy and so on. Really pray the 11 who goes on the pitch tomorrow show up.

  7. Has very little to do with individual players. PSG is beating Barcelona with motivation, aggression and organization. All the things we miss.

  8. Cavanni set up by quality feet and a marauding in field rb in meunier, could debuchyndo that? Lol psg crusing!

  9. As I’ve said before, Chelsea are not immune to dropping points in their remaining 14 PL games as at last weekend now down to 13 games by this weekend. In these their 13 games left, they will drop points massively and Arsenal will pick them up as they are being dropped by them and will add them to the ones they’ll collect and also to the ones they’ve already collected and put them all into their points bag at the Emirates Stadium which will become very full and swell up at the end of this PL season’s campaign. And as no club’s points bag will be as full as that of Arsenal’s own, Arsenal will become the PL table toppers at the end and will then lift the PL title trophy up for all and sundry of the Gooners to behold it and they will all hail the Gunners as champions by shouting, Hip Hip Hip, Hurry! Arsenal are champions.
