Will Arsenal-Liverpool decision disrupt away fans?

Arsenal’s fixture with Liverpool has been moved to Christmas Eve despite protest about the change.

The Reds were scheduled to travel to the Emirates on Saturday the 23rd, although Sky had yet to make their decision on which matches would be moved for television purposes, and the Gunners were asked if they would be able to accommodate the fixture move to the following day.

This led to Liverpool supporters group Spirit of Shankly to release a statement opposing the move due to congestion and travel disruptions which will inevitably hamper any travelling fans.

SOS released a statement stating: “It is our understanding that Arsenal have been asked if they can staff such a fixture and the Metropolitan Police have been approached for their view.

“Changing the date to Christmas Eve would have untold impact on staff and supporters, particularly away fans. Depending on kickoff time, and depleted public transport links, the majority of travelling Liverpool supporters would not get home until the early hours of Christmas morning.

“SOS are contacting relevant personnel to put forward our case that it is completely unacceptable to expect fans to travel for a match at this time.”

The decision has now been announced to move the fixture to 12:30 GMT on Christmas Eve which will hopefully not cause too much of a problem for those who make the trip down from Merseyside.

We will be looking to get our own back on the Reds for their 4-0 demolition of our boys back in August, although we could thank them somewhat for helping us to make the turnaround needed which has seen us pick up six wins from our seven outings since.

Do we owe Liverpool a thrashing? Will the early Sunday kick-off cause problems for the away fans?

  1. It’s good if Liverpool keep complaining about it, it could effect their mindset going into the game. We should say how we’re all delighted with the move, and are eager to give the supporters a great start to Christmas.

  2. I suppose this game has to be played at some point but it has the potential of ruining Christmas for one team totally.

  3. The game should absolutely NOT be moved to Sunday because our next one is on Tuesday. 2 day break vs 1 day makes a HUGE difference.
