Will Cavani transfer complete the Arsenal title jigsaw?

According to some of the latest Arsenal transfer rumours, Arsene Wenger is planning to make one more big splash in the summer transfer window, with a stunning swoop for the Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani. And if the Prof can pull this one off, I reckon it could be the final piece in the puzzle for the Gunners to become champions of England again.

The Uruguay international star is apparently unsettled in France and is keen on a move to the Premier League, with the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Man United all interested. But according to a report in the Daily Star, Wenger thinks he can win the race for Cavani by offering the French champions our current front man Olivier Giroud plus a hefty cash balance of around Β£30 million.

This could well be enough to tempt PSG to sell, as they are under pressure from UEFA to balance the books more and start to comply with the FFP rules. Also, they know that Cavani wants to leave and is very unlikely to sign an extension to his current deal with them. So this could be the best chance for them to get a good chunk of their 65 million euro investment back, while also getting a decent back-up for Ibrahimovich who will be happy in Paris.

Even if we get Cavani, I would still expect Wenger to sign another defender and maybe a central midfielder, but having a centre forward of Cavani’s ability to finish off the moves created by the likes of Ramsey, Ozil, Alexis and all would surely make us real contenders for the title. What do you think, Gooners?

                  excuse my haywill.

        1. “Arsenal held positive talks with representatives of Kostas Manolas today. Confirmed.”

                1. LMAO.
Unfortunately he just said “Sami Khedira’s agent held talks with Bayern Munich today & the player will have face to face talks with Pep tomorrow.”

Hoping he’s not so reliable anymore πŸ™

  1. Sign him up please! The top five excluding us (Chelsea, United, City and Liverpool) all have 2 good strikers where as we don’t even have one. Signing Cavani would be an amazing addition and he would easily rip defences to shreds in the premier league.

Lets not just stop there, sign a DM and CB quickly and before deadline day. Literally all players add Β£10 to their value just because it’s the last day and a lot of panic buying happens…

      1. Khedira’s value is at 12M these days, Manolas is at 8M together they are worth less than Carvalho but would cost a lot more in wages.

Add Reus or Cavani to that an we would really be stretching our budgetary limits. Maybe if we swapped Poldi for Reus and gave them 15M

I think Sanchez is our Forward signing this transfer window, I just hope Arsene plays him there, maybe he is waiting for Theo to get back, maybe he is just being stubborn, who knows with Arsene.

    1. Remember Chelsea got further than we did last year without a striker. Reus is just another attacking midfielder. Chelsea have Matic and now Cesc. City has Yaya. Big teams are going to cut through our midfield without decent signings. Cavani would be a nice piece, but won’t complete the puzzle.

  2. possibly the stupidest rumour i have ever heard. Dont get me wrong, wenger may well be going for cavani, but why on earth would psg want giroud???

    1. He’s French, he’s proven in the French league so he has experience and he would be a decent addition to any team. Also he pretty much single handedly won Montpellier the league back in 11-12 which shows how well he can do in that league..

  3. Cavani is perfect for Arsenal. He will score 30 goals with the creativity of Ozil, pace of Walcott and
Sanchez on the wing and also.

        1. it must be… some kids who dont know what world class striker means… probably they never see how batistuta play or roberto baggio! cavani have both of these in his blood, and with mesut behind him alexis and walcott on the wing… chelsea what? ? ? ? ?

  4. Will Cavani transfer complete the Arsenal title jigsaw? Not just Epl title but we would be serious Cl title wining contenders!

        1. not trying to say Arteta is bad, just not a starter. He’s going to get exposed a lot against the harder teams. As he did last season, he just cannot keep up with the pace of some matches. If we even want to have a shot at UCL title, we need more steel in the midfield. No recent team has won it without some of that. Even Barcelona have Busquets.

  5. Manolas 8m
    Kheidra 12m
    Cavani 32m+Giroud other way
We can sign 3 quality players for just 52m. Some people may think Im dreaming but we would be
    unstoppable with these signings.

  6. Interesting question.

Cavani would be the difference between fighting for 3rd to 4th place and fighting fir the title. So in a sense yes. It will greatly improve us.

However, ideally to complete the puzzle we could use a top CDM and another CD.

If we had all 3 (for example:,Cavani, Khedira and Nastasic) we would be the BEST team in the league.

    1. have no idea why were leaving this striker dilemma so late, or maybe we wont even sign another one. We shouldve just gotten someone like Rodrigo (maybe even on loan) and called it a day. Why is it so hard to find somebody better than Lamppost??

  7. If we signed all those players we would be bankrupt.

Cavani would be a good buy, but it’s always the wages that are the sticking point, not just the fee.

It’s a possible. Slim, but possible. Fingers crosses though eh.

    1. Balotelli is the child that nobody wants..the ugly duckling of football. πŸ˜€ We all know he’s got potential, but he’s black (because the duckling was black. This is not a racist comment!)

  8. Giroud played champions league game so i dont see him going anywhere.
Cavani is a class player alright but i doubt we will get him when Wenger says its the defence were short in.
l dont mind Giroud at all but would like someone to battle for his starting spot who knows tho Walcott could be in there for all we know as his last game for us he looked the part.

    1. Joel Campbell needs to be given a chance. We dont even need to buy another striker honestly, its just that Wenger is so stubborn so we know Alexis, Campbell in the middle, he will not experiment with. He will still give the spot to Giroud >_>. I’d be satisfied with our attackers if i knew Wenger would be willing to actually challenge Giroud, but hes not.

      1. I think Campbell can do a good job as backup but Giroud is not good enough to be our no 1
therefore sell him and buy Cavani.

    2. anyone who has to battle giroud is not good enough for this club.

miss thierry more than that big booty dominican girl i used to see…
      i took both for granted….majorly

    3. If Giroud would be battling for the spot in the starting line up he would loose. Every time. I think wenger still thinks he is gonna be world class and prioritizes him to other players. Come Wenger, two seasons and still so stubborn!? Play Campbell or Alexis in the middle.

  9. Just been on BBC sport gossip and a headline is arsenal want olympiakos defender to REPLACE BARCELONA BOUND VERMALEAN. Barcelona bound Hahahha trust goal.com

    1. True dat. Also the invincibles team was really big and strong, so they scared opponents in the tunnel before they went on the pitch. We lack that in the recent years.

  10. This is what our team has been crying and longing for ever since the deal to bring Suarez here collapsed! They can have Giroud all day long as we have other backup options in that position. This would most certainly make us title contenders if we then complete the jigsaw by adding a monster of a CDM general. Go on Wenger, make history and rub Jose Mourhino’s nose in it at the same time!!!

  11. Buying Cavani is not the
    single answer not that
    I would not welcome him.
I think the puzzle is that
the club has a decent back 5 but many of the 20 players
in front of them to varying degrees underperform
    are inconsistent and injury prone.
Except Giroud who tho he is average
actually performs to his limited potential 100%
of the time. 50 games a season 20 goals
10 assists a target man (especially for the fans πŸ™‚ )
and defending well at set pieces.
If all our stars performed up to
    their potential like Giroud
Arsenal would be ECL + EPL champions.
    We don’t need more players
we need more from the players we have.
    Wenger lift your game.

    1. To add to davidnz, and assuming that no further additions come in other than a cb here are a few areas where we need to buck up:

      1. Tactics: Against top 5 teams, Cazorla in the wings and Arteta as DM don’t cut it. Get OX on the wings, and CC as the DM- the guy is new and fearless. Give him a chance and let’s see how he responds. May be he would fare better than an experienced and untested Carvalho/(injury prone) Khedira we all seem to be pining for

      2. Wilshere when he is playing needs to buck up- no more “trying to dribble” and falling down and looking for a foul while the opposition counter attacks – I don’t care if he bursts his lungs running- he has to do it or go to some mid table team where he can carry on with his “I am a star” antics

      3. The wingers need to start scoring: Minimum 15 goal target from each wing.

      4. Ozil has to score more and produce the end stuff. Final ball is not consistent enough. Time to prove his price tag. If we refused Cesc for him, time to prove that he is better than Cesc in all respects

      5. Cazorla,Ox and Podolski should be given a reality check. One good performance in 3-4 matches is not good enough. At this level perform consistently or perish.

      6. For the fans: We all know football and we also know that one player- even if it is messi cannot guarantee trophies- it is a team sport for God’s sake! And like David pointed out, people are not doing enough. The attacking mid fielders at most times shy away from a battle and this is what is costing the team. We need to defend as a team- everyone needs to defend. (Look how Mou booted out Mata because he neglected defending)

Scoring lots of goals is not the only way to win matches- stop shipping soft goals- show some fight- defend collectively and keep clean sheets: Believe me we won’t need a Cavani to win matches then.

For every Real madrid/ Barca of this world, there is an Atheltico madrid and Dortmund. Let’s get behind the boys- we can win it but only if we keep injury free and start playidng to our potential in each of the 37 games! COYG

  12. Pls is giroud a striker or a defender?… Tel ur brother giroud to convert 3 of the various chances he misses each game and see if he would be needed to come back and defend … No one ask him to defend let, just do ur job and put the ball at d back of the net and stop pullin out ur tongue lyk a DOG

  13. I wonder whether some guys here watch other EPL matches apart from Arsenal to see how many chances other teams create in a match.U will rant about Giroud who is not helping the team either but even with a big name like Cavani,Arsenal will still struggle. And bragging about a midfield that is failing to make those through passes and beat defenders also shows a little football brain.

  14. If Arsenal buys Cavani that would be great but selling Podolski is a bad move.

I dont understand Wenger Podolski’s record is excellent and yet Wenger chooses not to use him if he had been used more we might well have done better last season.

We need strikers and with our injury problems selling is bad news.

This season is a season Wenger is expected to win something if he fails Arsenal should get rid off him we now have the money and if he cannot use it properly he should go.
