Wilshere expecting Arsenal future to be sorted in two weeks

Jack Wilshere has claimed that he expects his future to be sorted out in a couple of weeks, with Arsenal in line to open talks over a new contract.

The midfielder is currently into the final term of his Gunners deal, and has been said to be playing to prove his worth to the club this season.

Wilshere started the season in recovery having succumbed to his latest injury setback whilst on loan with Bournemouth in the previous campaign, but after being nursed back to fitness by Wenger, is now looking strong and fit.

The 26 year-old has since made his return to first-team action in the Premier League, albeit thanks to an injury to Aaron Ramsey, and Jack is now targeting a place in Russia for next summer.

When asked if his recent outings deserved to leave him in contention for a spot at the World Cup, he responded: “I think so. I think I have proved to myself that I can play in the Premier League, I trust my body again and I am confident going into games that I can affect them.

“That is all I can do, I can have a positive effect on this team and then we will see if the England manager picks me.”

The former Arsenal youth product went onto talk about his current position in terms of his future, and he continues to insist that he wants to be staying with the club beyond his current deal.

“This is where I want to be, this is where I see myself in the future,” he said. “Whether I will be and whether things sort themselves out then we will see in the next couple of weeks I suppose but I definitely want to be here.

“I am enjoying my football and am playing in the Premier League now and I want to help Arsenal get to where it should be.

“I think the biggest thing for any footballer, even more so for me because of the injuries and the games I’ve missed in the past, is that you are playing.

“Apart from that, there are a few small things to sort out but as long as I am playing I am happy, I have missed too much football and I just want to be playing, really.

“I’m in a good place mentally at the minute, I want to continue that and improving on my form, affecting the team, having a positive impact on the team and helping the team try and get into the top four and challenge for trophies.”

Does Jack walk onto the plane if fit? How important is it to agree a new contract for him before January?

  1. I really don’t know what to do with this guy. You know he can sign the contract now and get injured immediately, I just don’t trust his fitness yet.

But I feel for him as he desperately wants to sign a new contract, he has grown and he seems down to earth now
Wenger has a big headache to worry about
IMO we should just allow him to go as letting him go,sentiments or pity should not play a part anymore if we really wanna progress as club, it is painful but it has to be done

    1. You’re right to worry, if he was good enough to be first choice he would have shown it by now. Personally I believe we should have at least three to four players ahead of him in the pecking order. And that’s if he’s fit. He can be good or very good but for some reason some of these players only show that when a contract renewal is at stake. He gives it his best try more often than most (can’t fault him there) but the numbers just don’t seem to add up. Because he’s a home town lad I feel people go easier on him compared to others.

  2. What Sky Sports going to do now ? They’ve already decided the draw with United facing us in the semi’s, they’ll have to change it. I think the semis is going to be Chelsea v Arsenal now, they want a money bags final with City and Chelsea. the time 10 13 and at the moment their talking to Morinho

  3. To be fair Arsenal has had an
a very lucky run in cup draws
    these past several years.
We can’t complain. Just gotta win.
I am concerned about the match congestion
and how it will affect our league results
There is the FA Cup too.
Interesting time in January especially if Sanchez goes.
Lots to look forward too. Liverpool next 🙂

  4. OT – Chelsea in the Carabao Cup Semi Finals!!

Looking at injuries and the potential fixture pile up where we should be challenging for Top 4 and the 3 cups, we need to bring in reinforcements in January regardless of the Sanchez, Ozil and Wilshere contract situations.

    1. Wenger’s always open to that idea, but we have a large squad and he really believes in the quality of this team.
