Would Arsenal fans be happy with Alexis-Aguero swap deal?

The big Arsenal rumour today is that the Gunners have begun talks with Manchester City over Alexis Sanchez, and the two clubs are considering a straight swap between Alexis Sanchez and Sergio Aguero. They are both very consistent players and Aguero has always been up amongst the highest scorers in the Premier League, and in fact is second only to Alan Shearer for scoring the fastest 100 goals in the division.

They are both 29 years old, but Aguero seemed to fall out Pep Guardiola’s plans last season when he brought in Gabriel Jesus but he still managed 33 goals in all competitions for the Citizens, whereas Alexis notched up 30.

There is no doubt that Aguero would definitely be an upgrade on any of Arsenal’s out-and-out centre-forwards so would surely be guaranteed to start when fit, and it could certainly soften the blow of losing Alexis to one of our biggest rivals, but would it be enough to persuade Gooners that we could make a serious attempt on the Premier League next season?

Personally I wouldn’t say no to this deal, but I would really prefer that we got someone like Aubameyang or Lacazette in rather than Aguero, although that may be aiming a bit high for a team that can only offer Europa League football next season.

Do you think that Aguero could be the best way for Arsenal to salvage something from Alexis’ departure?

    1. I disagree chap,

Yeah, it would soften the blow “Goals” wise.

But we lose a talisman, his Work-Rate, dire, defensive contribution and creativity (Assists), in my opinion Sanchez is the heart of Arsenal (30 Goals & 17ish Assists.

The problem is that heart can only get you so far… the rest of the body i.e the rest of the team have to work as well; too much useless fat in this squad.

    2. I don’t like this deal. Aguero is a proven world class striker, like Aubameyang, Lewandowski and Suarez, but he is just a lethal goalscorer and he is at the same age as Sanchez.

Great strikers like Pele, Aguero, Aubameyang, Lewandowski and Suarez need at least one great playmaker behind him. He would need Sanchez or other good playmaker behind him to score a lot of goals.

In Manchester City, he has Silva, Yaya Toure and Bruyne. In Barcelona, Suarez has Messi, Iniesta and Neymar. In Bayern Munich, Lewandowski has Thiago and Thomas Muller.

Even if Arsenal gets Aguero or another big name striker, they should keep Sanchez and add another playmaker that can dictate the tempo and possess the ball well under heavy pressure, to play behind the new striker.

      1. We have Ozill don’t we? People have been saying Ozills brilliance will be brought out by a proper striker…Now we are saying we need a proper playmaker for Aguero? Which is which man?! Is Ozill unable to perform on his own or its Aguero?

        1. Ozil is a very unselfish player like Welbeck, has great eyes to see good chances and has good skills. But a playmaker he is not.

In addition to his skills, a real playmaker in his position should be able to dictate the tempo and able to possess the ball more than three touches consistently under heavy pressure. For example, Neymar, Messi and Iniesta. You can rewatch how they control the game as compared to how Arsenal’s midfielders play.

Ozil depends too much on his teammates to perform well. But he looked better in 3-4-2-1 formation, hopefully he will keep improving.

If Arsenal can get someone like Neymar, Messi or Iniesta behind the striker, I am sure they can get the title in the upcoming season.

          1. Lol ozil not a playmaker. check your facts dude youre the one confusing roles. ozil is a playmaker one of best. the position you are describing is midfield general or orchestrator aka what role cazorla had in 4-3-3.

how many times have we seen ozil retreat in our half to organize play from deep. caz injury has hurt his play bad and completely destroyed our style of play in 4-3-3 because he is kind of a rare or unique player.

  1. If this rumour is true then It would definitely soften the blow of Sanchez moving to City.

      1. As it stands:
The Gunners have made an initial £44m offer for Lacazette but Lyon are using Atletico’s interest to raise their asking price to £57m.
The French club are interested in Arsenal striker Giroud should they sell Lacazette, but insist they are prepared to wait until January and deal with Atletico.
Other reports suggest that Wenger wants to tie up Lacazette before Arsenal head off to Australia.

  2. So I have some sources. Very reliable. They called multiple deals.
She says that lacazette and lemar have already been signed and the announcement will be sometime next week or in time for the away kit launch before the australia tour.

It seems that this does not affect the desire and discussions ongoing for mbappe. And giroud is very much in wengers plan..

      1. That sounds like a good summer if the above story is true we would have added Kolasanic, Aguero, Lacazette and Lemar in 1 summer. Add Seri or Goretzka to fill Santi’s role and maybe a Gueye for DMF and we are done and ready to challenge. That’s is the manager gets the tactics right

  3. Straight swap deal for the best striker in Rolla for over 5 seasons now? Get it done!!!

  4. If the rumour is true, yes, let’s swap. Aguero will guaranty more goals than Sanchez. Although Sanchez creates more. And Paying Aguero’s current wages is more profitable than the rumoured proposed improvement on Sanchez. I expect this deal to give us room to add another quality attacker after Aguero.

  5. The full list of players we should trade Sanchez for in the EPL:

    Sergio Aguero
    Sergio Aguero
    Sergio Aguero
    Sergio Aguero
    Sergio Aguero
    ..

    1. i agree the agents won’t make any commission so no way its happening, as we all know agents ( blood suckers ) are the true people who are controlling football

      1. So true, every transfer window we hear rumours of player swaps or player plus cash swaps but I can’t remember the last time such a deal actually ever happened??

        1. Guardiola swapped Eto’o plus 40 million for iBrahimovic so I really won’t be surprised.

  6. Swapping for a player that has a better scoring record, better passing stats, and is not so greedy that most times he gets the ball the team loses possession? Welcome aboard my Aguero.

    1. @Lookpastthehype.
Yes I suppose the team does lose possession when our opponents have to kick off from the half way line again and again. Talk about lose possession, I wonder who wins possession back for us most all. Alexis is a risk taker, we have too many safety players who know how to fudge stats, Alexis will never drop to that level, it’s winning prizes and willing to take risks for that to happen. And at times when he’s taking risks he also takes a hugely clever risk by giving a certain defender the ball, directly before we close it down and winning it in area that puts them straight on the back foot. He done that against Che, he gave them the ball in the worst areas at the worse moment before we forced them into errors. Alexis plays chess dude, you got checkers on your mind.

  7. When you look at the interest of Pep on Sanchez capture, the rumor seems to be true. If so, we should accept it with out hesitation As Aguero is a clinical striker despite his injury issue. He is a type of striker what we lacked so far after Van Persie departure.Of course our primary target would be keeping Sanchez at hand as much as possible.

  8. I would be fine with it. Aguero is world class

However, we would still not be able to compete for PL and CL without another quality attacking midfielder / winger. Aguero would replace Giroud as #1 striker but we would need someone to replace Alexis

  9. Mahrez Ready To Sign 4-Year Arsenal Deal Ahead Of Proposed £35m Move. The player is said to be frustrated with waiting for Barcelona.
    ?? Lucky us!

  10. It has always been my stance, I doubt we can really bet the family house on Sanchez staying so why not get the best possible deal? The alternative is to get a straight cash deal for Sanchez going straight into the pockets of Silent Stan. With a swap, we will not be told Aguero is a “new signing”.

  11. If we trade in Sanchez for Aguero and we are able to add Lemar and Mahrez to our starting line up, I will be a happy gunner. And if Wenger still manages to add Lacazzette to that same team, then that will be the best transfer window ever. But one thing is for certain. Alexis has played his last game for us. He wants out and he will blow up Arsenal to force a move. He has already shown us how destabilizing he can be to our dressing room and on the pitch with his tantrums. So it is now a question of what we will get for him. If he insists on moving to our rivals City, then demand Aguero in return. That is the best we can do. But if we keep Alexis against his will, he will destroy our season and move to our biggest rivals on a free transfer in one year’s time. Believe me, we don’t want that.

    1. Our work rate would drop drastically, we wouldn’t be harassing players high up the pitch. Other players wont get influenced or inspired by their teammate. Ozil and Marhez would see to that, Giroud when Aguero sits it out, slow build up play here we come. We won’t have a player trying to force things anymore, running and beating his markers, then trying to bulldoze his way through whether with the ball or without. It’ll be nice comfortable football where we say we just play our game and the teams quality will shine through, without the grit that wont win you a league title.

      1. When did we actually become battering rams? I thought we were all about tippy tappy one touch football, we’ve just never had good quality all over the pitch like we do now; even when we had red hot RvP, we had sold Fabregas and the insane creativity he brought with him, at different times, we had Squilacci, Silvestre, Almunia in defence, at another time we lacked steel in the middle of the park, and finally when RvP departed, the beautiful football stopped producing goals altogether…who would have helped us more last season? RvP in his final season or Sanchez as we know him? If you pick RvP, then Aguerio=RvP.

  12. No way. Alexis scored more goals than Aguero, has a far far higher work rate, and does defensive work too. It would be an awful trade. Man City should offer 2 players for Alexis.

      1. In short, he is better in every sense, and we’ll be getting an injury prone player while Alexis is one fit lad with very few injuries and he even wants to play even though injured. He is an asset for sure, just that our team values money more than anything

    1. Are you serious, if Alexis wants to go SEE YOU LATER. I love the man but ain’t no one bigger than the club. Alexis for KunAguero is great business. Aguero is the out ans out striker we have been crying out for. He scored 33 in all comps last year and has done it consistently every year in the Prem. He is Prem league proven and will be a safe bet. Aguero, Lacazette,Lemar and a W/C DMF would be the best summer ever. Maybe Mahrez as well

  13. I think if we play Aguero and Lacazette upfront with Ozil as nr9 behind them we could be OK.

Aguero is a big injury threat though and that can be a concern for our club who have no problems making otherwise healthy players injury prone all on their own.

    1. It’d be a four three three with no width, if two of the three central players try going wide we’d have openings against us. If it’s the new formation we could get overrun in midfield pretty easily, Ozil’s not gonna be much help. 442 is outdated against five man midfield, Ozil being one of the four makes it even more likely to be overrun. Alexis helps our cm players when he’s behind.

I think to play two strikers like you want, the 433 would be the best of those. But I was just getting used to extra defensive assurance. The three midfielders would have to be the type that have allot of running in them, to cover out wide and in the centre more often than the usual, Xhaka, Cazorla, might not suit that system.

  14. I wouldn’t have an aversion to this deal going through, but we’d still need to add some quality to replace Sanchez, I’d like to see us go after Lemar if possible, he’d solve our left wing problem. As for the rest of the squad a centre back and a centre midfielder would be greatly welcome.

  15. Lacazette Lamar and Mahrez would be interesting
And all for about 130m -50 for Sanchez
    80m
And a top Dm happy days

    1. 2 piggy back your post adding these three players would more than likely be the writing on the wall for both OG and TW. Selling both for $40-50M would drastically reduce that $80M figure and allow Wenger to target a Goretska or Seri type player to replace an aging Santi.

However signing both Mahrez and Lemar would probably indicatel that AW plans on returning to a back 4 set up.

      Would be an exciting squad

      Laca
      Lemar…Ozil…Mahrez
      Xhaka…Seri
      Kolasanic…Boss..Mustafi…Bellerin
      Cech

  16. Not happening, but alright, I’ll play along. So we get a proven EPL striker in return for a proven EPL winger/striker. Both are pretty comparable with regards to their stats, and both are hard workers. One is pushing for a move away, and can cause major disruptions to our dressing room if he stays, not to mention that he can walk away for free next year, and another is out of favor with his club. Well, sounds like a no-brainer to me. Get it done.

  17. We used to envy city because of Aguero, we had Giroud so we looked on and thought this is bollox. But now we have a player we wouldn’t swap for Aguero. The reason Pep wants him is because besides his finishing and play making, he is the best example of defending from the front. I can’t think of one other top forward who can put so much drive and harassment into every performance. That’s why Pep wants him, because the best teams today win the ball high up the pitch. De Bruyne can’t do that stuff, Aguero can’t do it nearly as often, Stirling can to a certain degree but not world class at it like Alexis is. We’d be mad to let them have Alexis. It will make them difficult to wrestle a league title off of. We have to think about that, not just us getting better. Liv and Tott are beginning to put allot into performances. City struggled with this stuff last season and here’s us now considering giving them the best player for this type of striker/midfielder. We should have took advantage of Alexis’s brilliance by putting like minded players around him. Instead we had some who wanted to go at them from the front but others like Giroud and Ozil who prefer to let defenders do the defending. It will come back and bite us on the ass if he goes to city, I feel very sure about that.

  18. Except for Aguero injury record, i would not have a problem with that , add mahrez and another Lemar that would be great business

  19. Does anyone think this will even happen?

As mentioned above Pep wants him purely because he is a perfect example of a skilled player who defends from the front.

    He has to stay!

  20. Someone said he can’t remember wen such deal has happen before remember Ashley Cole and weliems gallax deal between arsenal and Chelsea in 2006/2007 season don’t be myopic

  21. Put Sanchez on that flight already. He wants to leave anyway. Right now I don’t see him like an arsenal player. Just get me Aguero…

  22. Please Arsene get the swap deal done before man citey comes to their senses. This was what pep did at Barca by swaping Etoo for Zlatan and Zlatan was later sold of at a cut price. With Aguero and maybe Mahrez. I think that will be a perfect summer

  23. I really don’t understand some Arsenal fans. Sanchez shows ambition, passion & sets the bar high for his team mates and you call that disruption of team spirit? If our team spirit is a loser mentality then we should all accept all those mediocre performances & stop criticizing the team & expecting more from them. This is why Arsenal is regressing. I actually feel his team mates should be ashamed for not emulating his hard work. You can’t expect to have big players & at the same time expect them not to have ambition. I would be happy to see Aguero at Arsenal but not at the expense of losing Sanchez.

  24. i say take it. strikers like aguero very rarely are available. best thing would be to keep alexis but if he really wants to go, kick his ass out of the door and take sergio. our new system does not need a hardworking striker( talking about the N9 position). he does not need to track back, just disturb defenders passing and be available to take the ball up the field or run behind defenders which suits aguero ideally.

Now i know this has next to zero chance of happening but still what would be ideal front 3 for you
    sanchez aubameyang/lacazette ozil or
    j.rodriguez/lemar aguero ozil
