Would Arsenal fans have preferred Martial over Mhkitaryan?

After an awful first half of the season for Arsenal the acrimonious departure of Alexis Sanchez to Man United should have helped the Gunners to settle down and reduce the animosity in the dressing room and on the pitch, especially as we saw the arrivals of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mhkitaryan to give our striker force a boost.

Mhki came with a big reputation despite being overlooked by Jose Mourinho at Man United, and the Armenian international has played some excellent games but is also prone to injury and has missed a large amount of games since his arrival. But now it has been revealed that another Man United star, the 22 year-old Anthony Martial, would also liked to have part of the swap deal for Alexis.

Martial has also not been played regularly by Mourinho and he is playing even less now that Alexis has joined the squad. According to a report in the Times, the Gunners were keen on taking the French striker rather than Mhki: “It is understood that Martial was disappointed at not having the chance to discuss a move to Arsenal in January, when the London club raised the possibility of including the forward in the swap deal that led to Henrikh Mkhitaryan leaving Old Trafford instead.” wrote Paul Hirst.

Obviously at just 22 years old, Martial would have been a much safer investment than Mhki, but the ex-Monaco youngster cost United a hell of a lot of money when he arrived at Old trafford in 2015 so he may have been a bit overpriced for the Arsenal side.

But if Arsenal fans had the choice would you have picked Mhki or Martial?

I would pick Martial that time over Mikhy, but that is with out knowing Auba is coming. With Auba in mind it would be more like 55% for Martial especially for his age and more proven in PL.

We got rid of Walcott and Giroud. We brought in Mikki and Auba.So basically we improved the Quality without gaining or losing numbers.Get shot of Welbeck and replace with Martial. That is good business.LACAZETTE AUBAMEYANG MARTIAL MKHITARYAN OZIL.That is some front 5.All we need is a solid 5 and Goalkeeper Behind them. And of course a new MANAGER

i honestly think Welbeck would serve Arsenal and himself on the left wing, he has a high work rate his fast his great dribbler and if he excepts his not a a striker his passing and crossing ability will improve and he can be a top player rather then being called a donkey most part of the season

Thats the problem at arsenal we skip on good players due of us thinking that our x player is as good as some x draxler out there

if we had got Marital we wouldn’t of bought Auba and to be honest i prefer Mikhy and Auba, AW almost begged Marital to join Arsenal rather then Man-U but the same could be said about Mikhy,

i think our offensive players are all good if they stay fit we can now concentrate from defensive midfield to our goalkeeper

Sanchez /Martial swap would’ve never realistically happened. If we got him over the summer it would be a great buy though. Let the new manager build his team and if he wants Martial we should get him.

You cannot compare a 22 year old who cost £50,m with a 29 year old who cost half that price. The fact is we got the better end of the swap deal for Sanchez who as I said 6 months ago is a busted flush.Mik is a very clever, versatile player who will be a real asset next season.

Martial has potential, but hasn’t really impressed me, even before Mourinho made him worse. I am fed up with potential being an Arsenal fan, I just want the finished product for once!

For once? What was Ozil, Sanchez, Lacazette, Mkhitaryan, Aubameyang when they arrived? I heard they were brought in for the Hale End Academy.

Why look at “would be, could be” and stay in the real world? Mkhitaryan was offered as a replacement for Sanchez and was good business given that Sanchez would have left on a free at the end of the season.
It should be left to the new manager to decide if he wants Martial or any other player, given their availability and price.

At the moment we are lacking a natural winger, that’s why most matches we keep on passing sideways, backwards because no one has natural dribbling skills….alexis and chamberlain can dribble but are gone….so we definitely need Winger.

So you would think our manager would recognize that we don’t have any natural wingers, and therefore not play a shape that benefits from having natural dynamic wingers?

We are seriously in dire need of wingers and it seems everyone think our attack is perfect with just a bunch of strikers and midfielders

I wanted Mkhi when he was at Dortmund…gutted he went to United, but glad we have him now. Martial would be good for us, but not sure it’ll happen. I’d rather we sorted the defence out than thinking of more attackers!

No I wouldn’t take Martial over Mkhit. Mkhit is rounded in the forward area, Martial you can say is too to a degree but not with the deftness of Mkhit. It’s like how you can see Ozil’s class in the way he controls and puts perfect weight on a ball. Mkhit, and all top quality ball players have that and you can’t teach it. Martial, I never rated him until last 12 months approximately, but he is a type that is in abundance. Tall quick athletic plays on wing and maybe CF at times, these players pop up regularly. They used to be called the new Henry, but Mbappe is the only one who looks like he can come close. We needed a player that can take Ozil’s mantle when off a bit or out injured, because it was so obvious our passing in the final third suffered when he was missing. So Mkhit I am happy with, I know Arsene would have preferred Martial and if that had happened we prob wouldn’t have brought in Aubameyang. We might have instead added that Leic player with Martial, Marhez. I reckon Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan are bigger than Martial and Marhez.
