Xhaka IS better but Arsenal to prefer Ramsey against Burnley

Next up for Arsenal in the Premier League is a home game against Burnley on Sunday and it is one we definitely have to win and also one that the Arsenal fans will be expecting to win with some ease, although things do not always work out the way we expect them to.

To be fair to the Clarets they are going along very nicely under Sean Dyche this season, as they currently sit in the top half of the table and are through to the fourth round of the FA cup. Do not expect them to too adventurous though, because all of their success has been built on their home form, with 25 of the 26 EPL points coming from games at Turf Moor.

Even their FA cup win over Sunderland was completed at home after they drew the match in the north east to earn a replay. So I can confidently predict that Dyche’s hopes of increasing the away tally of a single point will be based on some rugged defending and that is why I expect Wenger to go for Aaron Ramsey ahead of Granit Xhaka on Sunday. There is no doubt that Xhaka has improved a lot and learned to adat to the EPL since joining in the summer but I think he is set to be on the bench for this one.

With Coquelin back from injury the Gunners do not need more defensive solidity but more creativity and goal threat and even though the Swiss international has a good long range shot and has more goals than his Welsh teammate, Ramsey is the more attack minded player and his goal against Preston will hopefully lead to more.

Is Rambo the man to help Arsenal break down Burnley?

  1. Of course Ramsey will play!
Wenger will always pick him to play somewhere if he is fit.

  2. Of course we all know that if Ramsey is fit Wenger doesn’t even mind playing him as a goal keeper just to fit him into the team.

  3. I will be disappointed if Wenger goes with any tandem apart from Xhaka and Ramsey. I still have my doubts about their effectiveness but there were promising signs in the second half last week. They need a run of games together to prove they are collectively up to it and there is no better time to get that run than over the next three games.

  4. Ramsey doesn’t do it for me. He slows our play down too much. With Ozil fit, Ramsey should not see the pitch. We have enough players who can dwell on the ball and make sideways passes.

  5. Wenger will probably pick Ramsey, unfortunately. For me he is too often way too far forward, and as he is so slow, he can’t get back in time and our defensive cover in midfield suffers. I think it is wrong to overlook this, because if Burnley get too many chances, they may score and put us under pressure.
We need to make sure teams like Burnley doesn’t even get a chance of a goal, just like Chelsea and Tottenham are so good at. After all, keeping the lesser opponents from scoring is how teams become champions.
