Yay! Arsenal finally officially confirm Lucas Perez!

So there is our first official stamp on Arsenal’s two new Gunners, and thankfully it is Lucas Perez who now has a couple of weeks to settle in before we can roll him out for his debut. Having started our first three League games without a recognized striker his assimilation into the team will be very welcome!

Here is the official announcement from the official Arsenal website:

Spanish forward Lucas Perez is joining us from Deportivo La Coruna.

The 27-year-old enjoyed a prolific season in La Liga in 2015/16. He scored 19 goals in all competitions, including 17 in the league. This included a spell when he scored seven goals in seven successive games, matching the record of former Brazilian striker Bebeto. He also scored in the opening game of this La Liga campaign, against Eibar.

Lucas began his career in Spain with Atletico Madrid C and then Rayo Vallecano. Spells with Karpaty Lviv in Ukraine and PAOK in Greece followed, before he returned to his home region of Galicia with Deportivo La Coruna in 2014.

Arsène Wenger said: “He’s not only a goalscorer, he’s a guy who combines well with partners, who can give a final ball and makes good runs. He’s got a good eye for goal and had an outstanding season last year.”

We’re delighted to welcome Lucas to the club and please stay close to Arsenal.com for confirmation of his squad number.

The deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes

Okay Gooners. Let’s get celebrating!!!!

Welcome. Hope he not only pushes Giroud, but also potentially surpasses giroud and gives us something that he can’t.

    Mustafi?

I hope he’ll start ahead of Giroud, after 4 seasons of watching him go through his long spells of not scoring goals it’s about time we got something different in Lucas Perez we’ll have pace in behind and hopefully more than just 16 league goals in 38 EPL games!

This is really not fair on Giroud. I reckon that we are too harsh on him. Sincerely speaking, Giroud tried his best for Arsenal, maybe it’s because we fans expected too much from him, perhaps, a striker almost at par with Van Persie when he left and bought him from Bordeaux in France. I could recall Giroud telling Arsenal fans not to compare him with Van Persie when coming to Arsenal but that he was going to try his best to help Arsenal. Obviously, he wasn’t in calibre of Van P when he joined Arsenal but I must say he has indeed tried for Arsenal all these years. He’s been able to consistently give us 15+ goals each season in all competitions, if I wasn’t mistaken, considering his calibre of a striker. I would rather we put any blame on AW and the board who didn’t deem it fit for AFC to get a World Class striker all these years. Please, let us support and encourage Giroud and hope that Lucas Perez would give us something totally different and better than what Giroud has got.

Yay! Finally, a goal scorer. Good luck to the newest Gunner. Hope competition for the striker spot brings the best out of Giroud and Perez. Excited to see him on the pitch. COYG!!!

O.T: Tomas Rosicky signed for his boyhood club Sparta Prague on a two-year deal. Once a Gunner, always a Gunner. My favourite player. Good luck, Tomas!

Welcome Arsenal Lucas. One thing that amazes me about some of our fans is the fact that they refused to appreciate most of our players. You don’t get a first team shirt in French national team without possessing some good qualities. Anyway I like the fact that we good competition and replacement in almost every position.

i completely agree with you!also why does perez have to replace giroud wenger might be playing both of them in the future the same way deschamps used giroud&griezman for france, they will both play an important part during the season, different tactics will be used depending on the opposition anyway welcome to arsenal lucas perez!!
