Per Mertesacker would love to team up with former teammate again

Per Mertesacker would love to work with Mikel Arteta.

Unai Emery’s position as Arsenal manager is one position that anyone would want to have and it is no different for Per Mertesacker.

The former Gunners defender has been managing the club’s youth academy for some time now, but it appears as though the German is looking for a bigger position.

Unai Emery has been under pressure recently and one individual who has been linked with replacing him has been Mikel Arteta.

Arteta is the assistant manager of Manchester City and is being tipped to move into management at some point.

Arsenal considered making Arteta their manager last summer before settling for Unai Emery.

With the team struggling there have been calls for the Gunners to make Arteta their manager again as he may replicate the successes he has enjoyed with Pep Guardiola at the Etihad, and Mertesacker admits he would love to manage the Gunners alongside Arteta.

‘I was his vice-captain at Arsenal and he trusted me,’ he told FourFourTwo magazine. ‘I was by his side during team meetings and we had a great bond. I’d love to work with him again, a top guy.’

Unai Emery has been given until January to make the Gunners competitive again or they may fire him. It would be a delightful sight for Arsenal fans if Arteta returns as he was a fan’s favourite in his playing days.

  1. Poch has been sacked I’d take him. Realistically we won’t get him like 99%sure it won’t happen.

We are stuck with Emery until the end of the season then I guess we will see

    1. Even though he’s not my first pick, I would love for us to hire Pochettino…. The blazes is Vinai and Raul waiting for!, would they rather see CL qualification go out of our reach before they act?!…. Sack Emery, and get get us a proper coach already!

  2. The two teams Poch said he would never be manager of are Arsenal and Barcelona.
Mourinho and Nagelsmannn are favourites while we are stuck with Emery, sheesh.

  3. They better not get Naglesman as I want him at Arsenal but once again we are gonna miss out due to bad management

  4. I’d say that was pretty ruthless of the spuds! How much further backwards (or sideways 😜) will we have to go before Unai is shown the door??

    1. Lot more n on top of that some people here are calling for Morinhio…I guess they have seen enough of backwards and side ways they want to see park the bus now….hahaha

  5. Well Sue you can’t have it both ways!would you rather that as a club we back our managers or like the spuds(Levy)WE were ruthless and show no loyalty ? don’t get me wrong I’m happy because they’ve lost a very good manager but after everything he’s done for their club this is disgraceful anyway I know which one I prefer!

    1. What if we carry on sliding down the table??
If our results don’t start picking up, then he’s got to go, agreed??
They haven’t had a very good season, have they? I think Levy thought after reaching the CL final, they’d be amazing.. well they haven’t been, ask Bayern… at least they’ve acted, before it gets even worse…

      1. Tell you what Sue-If we don’t win Saturday against Southampton then the Board will have a very serious decision to make. The Spuds have show they will not tolerate anything less than progress. At the moment we seem reluctant to dismiss a manager clearly out of his depth and with no sign of anything even remotely looking like progress.

        1. This is what everyone says before the next game …if UE does not win this one he is in deep trouble, he will get the sack but nothing happens….n nothing will happen until his contract expires in summer. Arsenal will not sack him, they will part ways in summer only If we dont make it to champions League which I highly doubt, if we do then here comes the extension for UE sadly. Board does not care how we play n if we are clueless on the pitch they care only about making to champions League with out having to spend more by terminating n then hiring new manager middle of season.

        2. I have to say Phil, am a bit gutted.. I thought we would have shown more ambition…
But like you say, if we drop more points at the weekend, surely he can’t carry on. There’ll be uproar if he does.. and I will question what the hell Raul and co are doing!! Or not doing!!
