Alfie’s World Cup podcast – How did Torreira and Banega perform?

Day 16 of the World Cup and we had the first taste of knockout football in the tournament. Whilst France beat Messi’s Argentina in a 7 goal-thriller, Uruguay beat Ronaldo’s Portugal to send the world’s best two players home.

  1. Lucas Torreira played had a very good game.if indeed this man is to join next season, he will play a big role in the new look Arsenal.

He makes ngolo kante look pedestrian.

  2. I did not watch the Match but reading comments on the Daily Mail website just got me excited. Every single fan from our rivals clubs is praising his performance against Portugal. If our rivals in the league are praising him then he must surely have done really well.
I hope from now in no one gate-crushed us and snatched him from out of our hands.

  3. Torreira did really well…. I hope that we do eventually sign him. He’s the type of player we’ve been lacking for quite some time

  4. This guy Gives me so much hope.did you notice he was on Ronaldo all through? He blocked Ronaldo’s first shot leading to an injury scare.he was on Ronaldo again in the 2nd half when he tricked his markers and tried a shot.forget his size, his pace & tenacity is what we’ve been lacking. The fact that he’s also technically gifted makes him an all rounder who can only develop into a World classer.I hope we tie him down to a long contract.hey anyone feel this pavard guy is a world classer?

  5. Was impressed with torreira’s work effort, fearlessness (esp against crybaby) and discipline … IF he comes will be an asset but twined with who? … He won’t dominate the midfield or link to the attack … None of the remaing 4 journeymen of the wenger apocalypse (xhaka Ramsey elneny and Niles) are good enough (though last has potential) especially against opponents who we were already behind and are strengthening in that area .. Benaga is a player I have always like and is creative but not sure he fits the bill and at 30 would be a stop gap anyway … Need to sell 2 of the 4 and bring in powerful top drawer creative midfielder as a priority

  6. World cups are not a good
    indicator of talent.
    Ozil Ronaldo Messi
    Lewandowski out already.
Gotze scored the winning goal in the 2014 final
since then he just got fatter and slower.
Sane did not even make the German squad.
James Rodriguez starred in 2014 but failed at Madrid.
International summer tournaments are so different from league football.
Wales last made the world cup in 1958!!!
So Bale has never set foot at as a player at a world cup.
Aubameyang plays for Gabon who have never qualified for the WC.
So really world cup matches tell us little if anything
about players suitability for League football.

    1. It’s not about looking at Stats like our Arsenal fans seem to be obsessed with. It’s about watching their performances individually and making your own conclusions/ decisions. When you watch Ronaldo and Messi on the ball leaves not doubt about their talents.
But if you are to go by stats then Ozil is better than Messi etc..

  7. Torriera was great in that game , i must say. I really want him in arsenal team, so fast, he can mark n he positions well
