Alvarez wants to play for Barcelona and Barcelona want him in their team.
Atletico won’t sell him to Barcelona – so he comes to Arsenal, and every Transfer Window, or at least every Summer Transfer Window, Alvarez AND Barcelona agitate and irritate until they get the Transfer they both want.

Quite possible. I’d also much rather go for a player who could be expected to stick around at least 3 seasons. I don’t really get that from Alvarez.
But on the flip side, our attack could be better. If acquiring him is what wins us the CL, and the EPL again, then it’s probably worth it.
Chris S, what could happen, not saying it will, is we sign him this month and the sell him to Barcelona in 6 months later. We’ve done that sort of thing before with Kaba Diawara. Marseille wanted to buy him from Bordeaux but they refused to sell him to them. We bought him for £250k and then sold him to Marseille 6 months later for the same fee.

But Nico Williams rumours are also doing the rounds again.
Arteta has admired him for years. His release clause is £77m, so would be much cheaper upfront than Barcola or Alvarez. His salary would be the same or similar to Saka’s, on the right side. We can easily afford him without selling players, but selling Jesus would essentially cover that salary if it came to that, and Martinelli’s would cover more than half.
He’s said the only other Spanish club he’d play for is Barcelona, and Deco tried to sign him over two windows, but failed. His manager sounds like a nightmare. He turned down Madrid flat when they enquired.

Maybe for 60/65m with a salary of about 170k. His stats is not that impressive to be honest. How come no one is talking about Mika Godts of Ajax. I feel we need a winger who is skillful and can unlock low block teams.
Hmmm… what do you base those numbers on? That salary is lower than Martinelli’s, while his raw stats in most areas are better. Seems too low to me.
Re: Mika Godts. I used to live in Amsterdam and follow Ajax. My friends there think he’s not ready for the Prem, and most of the club scouts seem to feel the same way. I tend to agree, he’s obviously talented but not very physically robust yet.

Your Scenario would work OK IF it’s on Arsenal’s terms and instigation.
The other way is just potential disruption the Club doesn’t need.
On Bergkampfwagen’s point – If he was to join
( which seems increasingly unlikely now ) and helped us win the P L and C L that would be a completely different story.
Settled committed players and always preferrable though in my view.

I would sign Nico Williams and Mika Godts and we are done with attacking minded players for this window. The problem is Nico is scared of coming to Arsenal. He is not confident in himself to live up to the expectations. If he indicates interest, his deal is easy to do due to the release clause in his contract. I remember Zubi was like that too. Scared to leave Spain.

He loses out to Chelsea for Rogers. To Liverpool for Barcola. To Spurs for Tonali.
And now he is after a player who has repeatedly said he wants Barcelona and would seemingly prefer to choke on his own vomit than play for Arsenal.
Perhaps he can help Barcelona sign Alvarez.

I wish Arsenal can go all out for Yildiz of Juventus, even if it means adding Jesus to the deal since they are rumoured to be interested in Jesus I would take him anyday over Alvarez that only wants Barca and over hyped Nico Williams that’s demanding for wage he doesn’t deserve. Ajax Godts is a player Arsenal can buy and loan out to a championship club for agility and experience.
