He’s been RUTHLESS.
I said in the spring that not only do we need to strengthen the squad, we need 6-7 players because few are leaving on a free and few are being sold.
I was extremely skeptical of Arsenal buying 6-7 playeres but alas I was wrong! Not only did we buy those players but most of them are PL experienced. I think only Mosquera is expected to “ease in” while the others are expected to hit the ground running.
I think he’s done very well bringing in players, but Arsenal haven’t sold anyone yet, other than for peanuts (the total raised so far this summer is about £7m compared to around £200m spent).
Clearly, he’s got to do quite a lot of work to do. He has about a month though so that will, hopefully, be enough time.
Difficult to see how he’s been “ruthless”. There were clearly areas that needed strengthening and it’s not really surprising that we brought in more cover in some areas.
Some of the signings may be somewhat surprising but hardly out of this world. As for outgoings there’s none so far that’s stands out as being remarkably unexpected.
I imagine that the focus will shift now more to selling players and securing important players on new contracts. There’s time for both, but Berta will be busy.
I’m of the opinion that Berta is actually more aware of what the manager wants than the supporters.
That’s probably the reason why we haven’t seen the departures yet, as MA needs to know how successful Berta has been in getting the players he’s identified.
For instance, if we get Eze or Rodrygo, I can see Trossard leaving.
I would hope that he isn’t wasting his valuable time trying to figure out who the supporters want. You gave a good example. He isn’t going to let Trossard go or give him what he wants contractually until the left side is sorted out based on the transfer possibilities which Berta is still cultivating.
It’s been a very good summer window for Arsenal; kudos to Berta and everybody else involved.
The timeliness of the acquisitions; the relatively reasonable fees negotiated; and the new deals for some critical players have all highlighted the hallmarks of a professional job.
Even if no new acquisitions are made, I think we can all look forward to an exciting season for our beloved club.
Personally, I like the purchase of Gyokores. I like the signing of Mosquera. I like a midfield general, like Partey, I don’t see Zubimendi being that. Madueke, I think he could shake things up a bit. After going through goalkeepers like confetti, I am not convinced by Kepa, if Raya is out for a while and Raya needed competition, not back up. I sort of get Norgard but how much will he play? So for me, this window has been an obvious squad improvement but I just worry about how it will all fit together. Looking at the way we are playing in pre season, I still see the falable inverted LB and I wait to see how the about face right and left wing will work with Gyokores. I think we have lost some muscle out of midfield but gained with ball retention, we will see how that works out. So before I see the results, I give our summer window, at best 7 out of 10. I have not a lot of confidence but hope it is a 10 out of 10. But after all that we need money back in. And that we are 1 out of 10 at.
