Another Arsenal player is feeling disrespected by Mikel Arteta

Mikel Arteta was accused of disrespecting Gabriel Martinelli before the Brazilian sealed a move to Al Hilal this summer, as he was not involved in Arsenal’s matches before the transfer was confirmed.

Martinelli had spent the previous few seasons establishing himself as one of the best players in the team and was always reliable when the Gunners needed him. He did not want to leave Arsenal, but it was the club’s idea for him to depart this summer, leaving the attacker with little choice but to move away from the Emirates.

Martinelli’s Arsenal exit

Martinelli rejected Galatasaray and accepted a move to the Saudi Pro League because it was viewed as his best opportunity to leave after Arsenal insisted they wanted him to depart. He reportedly felt disrespected by the way the situation was handled.

Now, another player at the Emirates is believed to feel similarly. Piers Morgan thinks Viktor Gyokeres could be experiencing the exact same treatment after struggling to secure regular opportunities since joining the Gunners.

Without Gabriel Jesus and Martinelli, the Swede would have expected to play many games, but he has so far been benched for Kai Havertz, who has previously suffered from injuries.

Morgan raises Gyokeres concerns

Morgan claims Gyokeres is unhappy with his situation and suggests the striker was deliberately left out of the starting team. He also says Arsenal had planned to trade him for Julian Alvarez, although that deal ultimately failed to materialise, as quoted by the Metro:

‘Viktor Gyokeres has hardly had a kick since the season started and I was told on good authority that he was being deliberately benched.

‘Arsenal were going to try and trade him for Julian Alvarez and in the end they couldn’t make that deal happen.

‘I was told that Gyokeres is p****d off about the way he’s been treated and feels he’s been disrespected.’

The claims raise questions about Gyokeres’ current situation at Arsenal, particularly given the expectations surrounding his arrival. The striker will want to establish himself and contribute regularly, while Arteta will expect him to remain patient and continue working for his opportunity.

For the Gunners, the priority will be ensuring Gyokeres settles into the team and begins making the impact expected of him. His response to the situation could prove important as the season develops.

  1. And this “disrespect” situation is just as overblown as the last so called “disrespect”.

    1. I read all the article.
If it didn’t fall apart completely at “ Martinelli had spent the previous few seasons establishing himself as one of the best players in the team” it certainly fell apart when the source worth quoting was revealed as Piers Morgan.

Who is actually in the know? It leaves a lot of everyone else adding 2 and 2 and getting 3. It’s quite possible it’s other way round dear Piers – Gyokeres not right in training. Maybe he felt he was the one off to Barcelona before our club killed that dream.

    2. The “disrespect” is for anyone who believes “The claims”, coming from somebody who was told by somebody else.

  2. Think the season is still young, but the gaffer must improve his skills when dealing with players.

The legendary Ian Wright stated , not a word in English was communicated to Martineli, having left out the team, that doesn’t argue well for the young Spaniard. .

Had the Brazilian rejected all the options and stayed, surely the gaffer would have no choice but to play the kid at some point.

But the £60 mills from the Saudis was just too good to turn down, and Arsenal must have felt even better Martineli rejected the Turkish outfit

Arsenal must be carful of selling their soul

  3. There is something not right with this situation, we can all speculate but, Gyokores does not look right to me. Is it, he is not happy, is it he is carrying a problem, is it the way we play. Whatever it needs sorting.

    1. Well Reggie
      That’s the conundrum
      We don’t actually know.
There’s being a tough leader and being an absolute ba**ard and considering Arteta has been at the helm for 6/7 years and there’s been precious little to suggest he’s the latter.
Where is all this whipping up coming from? We’ve won all of our opening games and should be riding on the crest of the wave. Instead, we’re wringing our hands over what exactly?

      1. Sue, I can not believe that Martinelli or Jesus (who were sold because they were deemed replaceable) were not well aware of the situation they were in. Wether tgey were unhaor not it irrelevant, its football life. Gyokores doesn’t look fit to me, he didn’t score preseason and he looks way off it. He is a better no9 than Haverz but not at the moment. Why? There is something going on but wether it is Gyokores’s problem or Artetas with Gyokores, we can only guess. Haverz is not clinical and he isn’t a number 9, it doesn’t mean he can’t do a job, but it means, he can not sustain it. He never has. We need Gyokores back and fit and ready. That may require Arteta to manage.

  4. So we’re supposed to play players that aren’t up to the level so they don’t feel “disrespected”? If you’re benched cause you’re not performing well, that’s how the world of competitve sport goes. Crying about it won’t improve your situation.

  5. Yes, let’s speculate, create problems or accept that another player is preferred at the moment. We have played three league matches and already some are feeling disrespected 😂

  6. Me thinks that certain pundits are trying to look for problems that just aren’t there. 🤷‍♂️

  7. Sorry but what a stupid baseless report!

You should do better, and not waste people’s time.

  8. A lot of speculation no doubt, but there surely has to be something to the comments made by Wright?
    It is either one of two ways;

    1. Nothing is amiss and Wright is telling porkies
    2. Man management continues to be an issue, and Wright was commenting about managing players.

If Arteta, or Berta, or Garlick, or whomever made the decision, showing some class would have gone a long way.

The keep or sell decision is theirs to make, but it seems how things played out leaves something to be desired; unless Wright and Martinelli are telling lies.

  9. Durand,

What do you mean unless Martinelli is telling lies. As far as I know he hasn’t said anything about the way the move happened.

  10. The P L Season is 3 matches old, 4 if you include the Community Shield – less than one month ago.

    The C L starts tomorrow.

The League Cup hasn’t Started for Arsenal Yet.

The F A Cup doesn’t start for Arsenal until January.

    There are 35 P L matches left.

V G came on as a substitute on Sunday against Chelsea.

It’d be crazy not to play him regularly, and M A isn’t crazy.

He’ll get plenty of game time this season and might well end up as Arsenal’s top scorer in the P L and across all competitions again this season.

    1. Chris S,

If Gyokeres is upset, and I don’t personally believe he is. But if he is, then he needs to channel that anger when he gets his chance and bang some goals in, as if to say to Arteta now drop me.

  11. I’ve said it a long time now that artera is a deamon and a dogg!! He allowed Xhaka to curse the arsenal fans amd wear a captain arm band when he should have sold him immediately he kept rubbish jorghino for 3 years doing nothing amd let good players go

  12. I’ve just read that Jesus also feels he was disrespected by Mikel and here’s why according to him.

He was part of the squad during preseason training but then suddenly told to train away from the squad and on his own.
No explanation was given to him and none was forthcoming before or after his transfer.

That now means Martinelli, Gyokeres and Gabriel all seem to have an axe to grind over their treatment by MA.

    1. Hi Ken1945
I thought you’d got lost in the highlands

Over time, I’ve read all sorts about players or their spokespeeps creating “conflict “ when push comes to shove. I’ve seen club photos where several of them were sold and never played wearing the new season’s kit.

There could be/maybe is something in what is being reported, but I’ve also heard that Jesus and his people were delighted he “finally” got Barcelona after trying to get there previously

      1. “Lost in the Highlands” sounds like a book title SueP!!
I’m sure that Jesus and his team were delighted, both with the club he’s joined and the money he’s reportedly on.

However, it hasn’t stopped him from voicing his disappointment and displeasure at the way he was treated by the club before said transfer.

It seems to be a situation that is beginning to creep into our club and one that doesn’t sit well with the “Arsenal Way” we proudly talk about.

  13. Gee, unheard of, badmouthing a former employer about anything and/or everything, real or just from your perspective, after not wanting to leave.

  14. Is questioning why he was suddenly told to train alone after being with the squad in preseason training “badmouthing a former employer” then BB?
Jeez you must be really thin skinned if you think Jesus was doing that – it seems a perfectly reasonable question to ask in my opinion!!

How would you describe treating an employee the way that Jesus was treated then BB?

If you had actually read what Jesus said, he stated that he realised he wasn’t going to get any playing time and was ready to move on, but it was the way the situation was handled by the club that hurt him.

    1. I’d agree with your statement to me that it doesn’t seem like the Arsenal way. However, having not read Jesus’ interview until this morning, I’m not wholly surprised that clubs/managers ask players who are likely to depart to train away from the first team. It’s a common practice. Now it could be that the manager wants to only work with those he expects to feature. Equally, it can be the club trying to “encourage “ the player in question to find a new home.

As much as I have a certain amount of sympathy for players whose time is up- and I guess they have a good idea if they’re being honest- it is the nature of professional football. With Gyokeres pushing for a move to Arsenal and then getting the hump (guessing on my part) I find it all a bit rich.

As supporters we get the hump ourselves if the matches are dull or badly managed and yet many are willing to overlook that to bemoan the treatment of players who have always known the score. Not many are in the fortunate position of deciding for themselves what they do next

  15. Then why not tell the player that’s why they’re being asked to train alone?
According to Martinelli, Ozil and Jesus they weren’t told why and that’s disrespectful in my eyes.BB what does your answer “Yes” mean?

  16. If they weren’t told then why didn’t they just ask – I’m pretty sure MA would have explained the situation to them face to face instead of ignoring or blanking them
