Another name to add to the long list of Arsenal manager candidates

Arsenal makes contact with former QPR and Leicester City boss Paulo Sousa.

Arsenal’s search for a new permanent manager has taken them to France as they have reportedly made contact with Bordeaux manager Paulo Sousa.

The Gunners fired Unai Emery after a run of seven games without victory which ended in an embarrassing 2-1 home loss to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Freddie Ljungberg has managed to return the club to winning ways after three games in charge, but Arsenal have their eyes set on a more experienced manager.

Reports from France media giant, L’Equipe claims that the Gunners have established contact with Sousa’s representatives.

Sousa played for Portugal and a number of other teams before becoming a manager. He has managed in England before with stints at Leicester City, QPR and Swansea.

He has managed to lead Bordeaux into the French top six and was able to convince Lorent Kolscielny to leave Arsenal and join him in France this summer.

Sousa is just one of a number of managers that the Gunners are considering and the same report claims that his release clause with the French side is between 2-3 million.

Arsenal has also reportedly interviewed Marcelino, according to the Metro, who led Valencia to the Copa del Rey last season.

The list of potential candidates just seems to grow and grow and quite a few of those on that list are hardly inspiring, including Sousa.

It is clear what type of manager that Arsenal requires and hopefully, the board knows this and plump for someone with experience of winning trophies and managing a team full of egos and broken confidence.

  1. No manager guarantees success.
But what is success any way?
If success is measured in winning the League and the Champions league
then 99.9% of all managers are failures.
Maybe the fans are the problem setting impossible expectations
just so they can moan all season long?
Moyes and Emery are classic examples.
After years of success under Fergi, Man U sacked Moyes when the team was in 7th.
6 seasons 3 more managers and a 750 m spend later are Man U any better off?
Emery actually was brilliant first season.
Missed CL by one point in the league finishing a point behind CL finalists Spurs
Emery also got Arsenal to the EL final.
This term Sanhelli failed to strengthen the Central defence. That is not Emery’s fault.
70 mill Pepe has scored one slashing PL goal but has achieved little else.
After 8 rounds this season Arsenal was actually in 3rd place a point behind City.
Our 3 losses were all away to Teams 1.Liverpool 2.Leicester and a promising Sheffield U.
The four draws which led to Emery’s ultimate demise can be attributed
to the weak central defence (Luiz) and the weak DM transition ie slow Xhaka.
Freddie is playing great football but again without quality transitional DM (Xhaka)
and with a porous central D Freddie will struggle to survive these next 110 tough half dozen sides which include Man City Everton and Bournmouth away Chelsea twice and Man U.
In fact the board might want to delay announcing a new manager until after this
up coming horror run to protect the new manager who would look bad
starting with 5 losses form 7 games.
    Fan expectation must change.
Liverpool Leicester Man City Chelsea Spurs Man U + Wolves are top sides now.
Arsenal is part of a top 8 with Everton Bournmouth and Sheffield close behind
Newcastle and Palace + Burnley can bite also. are also kicking on now.
The old top 4 has been replaced by a ferocious top 14.
Top 6 ought to be the new bench mark for our Gunners.
