Are Arsenal finally set to offload Carl Jenkinson?

No one will ever forget Arsene Wenger’s wishful thinking over Arsenal’s ‘English Core’ which never really came to light, despite the promise shown by our youngsters Kieran Gibbs, Jack Wilshere, the Ox et all. The only one that managed to become a regular (when he wasn’t injured) was Aaron Ramsey, who was allowed to leave for free this summer.

One of the most disappointing was the ex-Charlton youngster Carl Jenkinson, who has somehow managed to hang on to his Arsenal contract for 8 years whilst averaging 5 games per season. We made numerous attempts to sell him but they always fell through as no other team would match the wages he gets at the Emirates. Now it looks like he will finally be on his way as Sky are reporting that he has a couple of suitors making enquiries. They reported.….

West Brom are in talks with Arsenal over a deal to bring out-of-favour defender Carl Jenkinson to the Hawthorns, Sky Sports News understands.

The 27-year-old played only eight games for Arsenal last season and is keen on a move that would provide more first team football.

Celtic are also understood to be interested in the full back, with the expiry of Mikael Lustig’s contract and the departures of Jeremy Toljan and Cristian Gamboa.

I am sure Arsenal won’t take much persuading to finally get him off our books, but I can still see him turning down any chance of first-team football just so that he can continue to take home his massive wage packet without having to strain himself too much by actually playing.

I, for one, simply can’t wait to see the back of him!

  1. He is a clear product of years of bad player development. We have simply not managed to develop the right players, which is a big part of the situation we are in. Hardly any players have developed in to better and more valuable players, which have resulted both bad results and no opportunities to sell and reinvest. We are slowly getting out of that mess, and Jenkinson should be offloaded as soon as possible. He may have a good attitude, but it isn’t enough.

    1. Agree, Arsenal you should go to Lyon, Monaco and Ajax and poach scouting network and if I may, the main problem here for many years in the past had been “poor infrastructure “ like Gazidis said in the past where a single person had a final say when you come to players and he pretty much created a warfare to play in order to look good in local eyes and keep a player who can’t dribble, pass or shoot and another player who never developed no matter what in Walcott and in higher wage! Getting rid of Wenger was a good beginning in a right direction

  2. I do like Jenko….I didn’t think he was 27!!! Jeez he’d better get some regular football before it’s time to retire!
Ooh West Brom are sooo boring!! I’m sure he’d walk straight into their team though!! Wish him well for the future & I would say thanks for the memories.. but there haven’t been that many ?

  3. Obviously Arsenal would not extend his contract when it expires on the 30th

We have got Bellerin and Maitland-Niles, so the RB position is covered. Unless if Bellerin still needs more time to recover

    1. No player at that age should be allowed to run a contract down. Not even if they are considered to be “less talented” as others!

This is why Arsenal are always penny pinching. Because the handling of contracts has been so poor that players like Ramsey are also leaving for nothing! It’s as if the club have money to throw away (without actually spending that much)!!

How much would Jenkinson be worth if he was in a 3 year contract? £2 million, 4 million or even 8 million? Whatever it is it would be better in the clubs bank account..

      1. Wrong Gunneray.

On his current salary (typically too high) no one would want him even for 2 mill. pounds. Not when they can get someone as good, but younger and put him on a pittance.

  4. It’s not that, “I, for one, simply can’t wait to see the back of him!”
That’s a bit rude! He’s Arsenal through and through and deserves a bit more respect tbh.

He’s had a few good games but injuries, loans and Bellerin have stopped him getting a regular run in the 1st team.

I would be happy if he’s sold, I’d be happy if Ozil is sold but while they’re Arsenal players I’ll support them and wouldn’t say anything online I’d feel bad about saying to there face.

Let’s spread some love and less hate please xxxx

    1. Well said @Abbas, I was going to post a very similar comment.
That last line by @Darren was totally uncalled for and rude.
      Whatever happened to respect?

  5. If you were offered £45K a week to play for Arsenal you’d take that contract too. He’s not the best but give him a break. He’s always given 100% and he’s been unlucky with injuries. I swear some ‘fans’ would try and blame him for Brexit, the Salisbury poisoning, Hitler invading Poland, etc. He takes more flak because he’s one of us.
