Are Arsenal upping their game in bid to replace Alexis Sanchez?

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is insisting that Alexis Sanchez is staying put, but a number of reports are claiming that we are making bids for possible replacements.

We are strongly linked with a deal to bring Thomas Lemar to the Emirates this summer, with the 21 year-old believed to be keen on making the switch, but his asking price by Monaco has so far proved problematic.

With the current issues over the above’s capture, we have since been claimed to have had bids turned down for Borussia Dortmund’s Ousmane Dembele, and now we have apparently been knocked back in our attempt to prise Kingsley Coman away from Bayern Munich.

We are also said to have enquired about the availability of Juventus forward Juan Cuadrado, and have been stated an asking price, but we are most likely testing the water in case Alexis does push to leave the club this month.

The transfer window still has 27 days to run for a twist or two, and despite the claims by Arsene Wenger, many of us Arsenal fans are half-expecting the Chilean forward to seal a move away from the club, with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain looking the most likely destinations.

The Neymar deal is likely to kick-start a frenzy of moves, and a return for Alexis has been mooted with a hole missing from their attack.

Sanchez has remained silent mostly, refusing to rule out an exit, but we have had plenty of comments from Wenger insisting that he is staying put, but unfortunately we have been there before with Thierry Henry, Cesc Fabregas and many others.

Is our club preparing for his exit despite Wenger’s claims? How likely do you think it is that Sanchez stays beyond August 31?

    1. Why would any real arsenal fan give you a thumbs down for what you said?

In order to win the PL we need to ADD to strengthen the quality of our team.

    2. At the current rate don’t be surprised of us with the prospect of replacing our top players season after season while the average players stay behind because the top players will know we don’t have the same ambition to match theirs. Why can’t we sign enough top players in a season so that they can play together and stand a better chance at achieving something instead of buying one star player every season and by then the older star players will have left then we need to replace him with another once again, repeating the same thing over and over.

  1. Other clubs get linked with players…and buy them! Arsenal get linked with players…and don’t buy them, and then we get told a year, or so later by Wenger how close we were to signing some top class talent.

Why is EVERYTHING in regards to Arsenal, such a long drawn out affair?

  2. For Christ sake, what manner of assurance do you need from Wenger? The man help established the club financially such that arsenal cannot be forced to sell for financial benefit except the player put in transfer request. He deserve some credit pls and stop basing your judgement on he effort in making arsenal a financially viable club. His chasing Lemar and co is to improve the club not replacement for Sanchez.

  3. ARSENAL FC – A CLUB ABLE TO PUNCH ABOVE ITS WEIGHT. NO MATTER HOW THE WIND CHANGES I KEEP MY BELIEF ONE DAY WE’LL WIN THE LEAGUE

    1. does that mean

      a) spending 200m on a player?

      or

      b) Over 100m on a single player?

      or

      c) spending Over 200m on players?

      1. means: we ain’t chelski, real, barca, man u, citeh but wen they meet us in competition regardles of their posturing, on our day, like david slew goliath, we belief we can knock them clean out.

    2. above it’s weight? we’re one of the top 10 richest clubs in the world…stop being conned by those in charge…why would an incredibly wealthy man who doesn’t care about soccer buy the controlling interest in this club then???

  4. No, Arsenal FC have decided they can not compete for the best players and can not win the PL or guarantee a CL place. Instead they will go after the EL and try to get CL football that way. If I remember correctly Chelsea won the EL and ended with more earnings that season than any other English club playing in europe. It’s all about money.
I’d like to believe i’m wrong but somehow don’t think I am.

    1. and from where do you get your facts… Donald Trump !!?
Wenger clearly said he doesnt believe Europa Cup winners should be allowed to enter CL and he is focussing on winning premier league !

      1. I stand corrected, after looking it up Chelsea were the third highest earners 2012 – 13 behind the 2 Manchester clubs which means they still made more than Arsenal even though we had CL football.
I do remember reading an article around that time stating exactly what i wrote which just proves that you can’t believe what is printed the media.

  5. All is well .. Yoghurt man is still active in the transfer market … Despite being less than a week to kick off …

  6. This starting feel like arsenal fans want Sanchez more than the player or the club. Enough with the Sanchez articles, he is staying. We are not a selling club anymore.

  7. This your article is becoming boring, Sanchez is going no where getting Lemar would only be for additional, don’t write about Lemar replacing Sanchez again, OK? He cannot Replace him

  8. To be fair enough, i don’t feel we have the squad yet to mount serious challenge to the title. Would love 2 more world class signings, not because other teams are signing but because we need them. For long we have failed to deal away with the problem of poor squad/quality depth and we have now to do that. Would love to have signed such players before the season starts.

  9. I’m taking Wengers word for it. Also Alexis attitude in training is positive. So I think he is staying this season

We must get Lemar and keep Alexis OR get Lemar and replace Alexis with a top forward (ie Draxler, Muller, Lewandowski, Reus, Aubemeyang, Coman, di Maria, etc.) which is highly unlikely with under 4 weeks left.

We need to get Lemar and ideally a top CM

    1. Wrong way round. We need to get a top CM and Lemar is only important if Sanchez leaves. Now that Lacazette is here then if Sanchez stays he will probably play mostly on the left. Lemar also plays mostly on the left. So the Lemar transfer is not critical unless Sanchez leaves. On the other hand getting a top CM like Seri is vital, especially if that ensures Ramsey doesn’t play. He’s ‘only’ about £30-35 million, which is about what Chelsea paid for Kante – and look what he did for them! Let’s hope Nice get quickly knocked out of the ECL playoffs so we can make a move for him. It doesn’t help that Seri is playing very well for Nice and keeping their hopes up for a place in next seasons ECL! Ajax failed to stop Nice so I’m hoping Napoli can do a better job on the 16th and 22nd of this month and knock Nice out so we can get Seri before the transfer deadline.

  10. I watched the last two games of Monaco (PSG and Toulouse) and I hope Wenger watched them too because Lemar does NOT offer anything valuable to Arsenal.

    1. I watched the Toulouse game and was impressed with Lemar. Although he didn’t get a goal or an assist, he has fantastic touch, technique and has great feet. He was excellent last season as well. I feel he could be converted to a central midfielder to take over from Cazorla.

  11. is it time to start discussing the starting lineup for the Community Shield match ? My picks to start:

    Goal – Cech
    CB -Kos
    CB- Holding
    CB -Monreal
    RWB – Bellerin
    LWB – Kolosinal
    CM – Xhaka
    CM – Ramsey?
    RW – Ozil
    LW – Iwobi
    ST – Lacazette

    1. Kos is suspended for this and Leicester game I believe ! So expect Mert to start
Mustafi, Ox, Sanchez, Walcott, Giroud, Ospina, Welbeck, Gibbs, Elneny, Chambers and Maitland-Niles on the bench…. that bench could beat our first team !

      1. Koscielny is allowed to play in this game but not in next two games,so I think he should be used to protect Mertersaker in one side and Holding or Chambers in the other side .Ox and Kolasinac as wing backs. In de middle Ramsey,Xhaka and Ozil.Strickers: the most fitted and ready at the moment Walcott and Girou.
Monreal should be used as a Left wing back and Iwobi I think is about a year away for the best eleven. Seri would be the ideal addition;its a pockect dynamo.
